An attack -- or even an attempted attack -- by Islamic extremists on Saudi Arabia's oil sector would have disastrous consequences on the world market and the price per barrel, analysts warn. Of more than 700 people arrested in the course of the last six months in Saudi Arabia, dozens had been part of cells charged with preparing attacks against oil sites, according to authorities in Riyadh.

Very thoughtful posts on your site about Nagin and the lost senate seat.
We have seen it in a lot of races through out the country. Politicians keeping people poor so they can get their vote.
Keep people down, so you have a job. Many politicians do that, and it is a pile of crap. Politicians are paid to help this country and put it's people first.

Is it that shocking? Or are you just running Drudge's leftovers like Kim's Iran story?

I've been telling people the slogan this time was "Vote for the incompetent. It's important."
Even small steps in the right direction should be cause for celebration.
And I think you meant a "seat in the Senate", but, hey, we all do brainos from time to time.
Regards,
Ric

Basically, Jim, Mary Landrieu needs control of NO:A in order to get elected. She's one of their two Senators. Nagin won, not Mary's brother, so things won't happen in her favor in NOLA. It's a little more complex and such, and you have to live close enough to hear about Louisiana politics regularly to hear the entire story.
(I live on the coast of Mississippi, so New Orleans politics aren't that foreign to me -- all the talk radio stations I listen to originate in NOLA.)

The really interesting hint was how.
"The DNC teams actively worked to defeat Nagin under the auspice of the committee's voting rights program."
What exactly does that mean? Whose rights needed supporting? Did they pull support for busing in displaced voters? Did they challenge white voters?

DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX MON MAY 22, 2006 16:26:02 ET XXXXX
DNC: DRUDGE IS DEAD WRONG, WE DID NOT PICK LANDRIEU OVER NAGIN
The Democratic National Committee strongly denies it placed political operatives in the city of New Orleans to work against the reelection efforts of incumbent Democrat Mayor Ray Nagin.
Well-placed DRUDGE REPORT sources claimed DNC Chairman Howard Dean made the decision to back mayoral candidate and sitting Lieutenant Governor Mitch Landrieu (D-LA).
The DNC says the report is "unequivocally and absolutely false."
DNC Communications director Karen Finney explained: "The DNC does not as a policy get involved in Democratic primaries... The only thing that the DNC did was a campaign helping ensure that displaced voters had an opportunity to vote."
The DRUDGE REPORT takes chairman Dean and his spokesman at their word.
