This whole "12th Imam" thing is getting a life of its own. It appears that Ahma-nut-job truly believes this and is waiting to launch - something. Others have posited that this is why Ahma-nut is waiting till August 22 to respond to "talks" with the US and others - although an answer to the "talks" could have been made weeks ago.

Today is the 18th. Ahma-nut has about 5 weeks to stir up the chaos he needs for the 12th imam's return. Given the situation in Israel, he's well on his way. I think Iran acting militarily in the current fight is a given.

Rack up 10,000+ dead american civilians and you wont see Pelosi, Hillary, Leahy, Kerry or anyone else talking about "measured responses". The first reporter that is stupid enough to stick a microphone in Joe six pack's face and start talking about the poor innocent Iranian casualities who are getting the sh*t kicked out of them will be going to see a proctologist to get a microphone removed from their ass.

The US wont commit ground troops into Iran (we dont want to have to rebuild the country). China and Russia will step in at least somewhat if we do to protect their oil interests. But the military capability of Iran will be decimated and you will see a change of govt.

Also if that happens count on NK have a nice big cup of STFU at least until Bush is out of office.

China just posted a big gain to their economy. Iran gets out of line and China tries to over step their protection it will be made known to them that the American consumer wont be too happy and they can buy their own products.

The vocal left of today may have the microphone currently but you will note that not too many dem politicians are out there saying Israel has to stop. If Iran and Syria get stupid you can count on a few doves becoming rapid hawks really quick. Especially with elections coming soon. Americans dont want to hear "we need to find out why they are mad with us" when there is American blood in the streets. Maybe a year later but not within the first few months.

I hate to sound as if I might agree with wee, but I think the he's on to something--maybe not the Arab states preventing war, but at least being a part of a "coalition" of sorts against the Iranians.

Hopefully a map will help you feel better epador. Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan border Israel on three sides, and with U.S. forces parked in Iraq with our motors running - wedged nicely between Iran and Syria - geographically at least, this seems like a good, strong position for Israel.

Israels PM has reportedly already started to back down. Specifically, Israel has dropped its demand for the removal of Hezbollah from Lebanon.

So much for 'destroying Hezbollahs ability to strike Israel, much less taking the fight to the Syrians. The present Israeli administration isn't really serious, its just more of the same old, same old.

I honestly dont think Iran is going to do anything other than egg folks on and maybe make empty promises to all sides.

1. Iran doesnt have nukes yet and wants them badly. Any military action by them would give the US and Israel more than enough justification to do another damage to their nuclear facilities to put that dream off for another 10 years at least. They dont want that.

2. Israel wont occupy Lebanon or invade Syria. They may pound the hell out of them but wont invade as in what we did to Iraq. They will move troops in but they wont stay long. It wont be an Iraqi type invasion at all.

3. Iran will gladly throw all the matyrs they can at Israel via proxy meaning Syrians, some Iranians, and Lebanese. They know Israel wont occupy either Syria or Lebanan but even if they did that would be like US troops in Iraq. Counterinsurgency would be rampant and the Lebanese and Syrian population wouldnt help the Israelis like we have gotten assistance from Iraqis.

4. The longer this goes on the longer that the US and other nations arent paying attention to their nuclear ambitions. Not to mention that as more and more deaths pile up even with Israel trying their best not to kill civilians there will be more and more hatrd (if that is possible) towards Israel.

5. The UN and other Isreal hating organizations will do their utmost to stop Israel from doing anything productive. Watch the video of Helen Thomas today from the Press conference. Listen to the calls of measured response from folk like Chirac.

In short Iran has way too much to gain and way too much to lose to take too much of a direct hand in this. They will gladly stir the pot as much as they possibly can and not care what comes of it or how many muslims die as no matter what they will bide their time to get their nukes.

Why fight when they can get their proxies to do it for them? Picture the left using Cindy Sheehan, the professor that got fired , Alan Combs, Chris Matthews, etc etc to say what they really feel so they can stand back, shrug their shoulders, have the MSM paint them as statesmen and they can claim "hey I didnt say it dont look at me".

I wont be so certain that Iran is without nukes (they trade with N. Korea). This is looking like a "rope-a-dope" to me. Iran's army (Hezbollah)was instructed to move against Israel in such a way to get them to attack. Why is that? Why now? Iranian/Syrian leaders know that Hezbollah army cannot win battles against Isreali jets and tanks - so what are they after? I'm thinking they want Israel to invade Lebanon so Iran can say Israel is trying to recapture land and use that as a pretext to drop a nuke on Tel Aviv. Is anyone listening to Ahmadinejad? For the past 6 months he has been saying Isreal needs to be eliminated - its time we took him for his word and figure out what to do about it.

Bloviating is the one common thread amoung all politicians, be they Persian, Arab or American. Have you ever known a politician that could keep his/her mouth shut , when a micraphone was present. No one is going to use nuks, since that would presipitate a like response, and we can fix the 2,000 volunteers in how ever long it would take for a cruise missle to reach Terhan.

Isreal is doing exactly what they need to do in this situation, which is take out the infrastucture in southern Lebanon. I don't believe they ever intended to send ground troop in. With the infrastucture devastated, Hizbola(sp) will have a much harder time operating, and the Lebanees will be forced to do something about them to prevent the same thing happening in the future.

As I have posted at Poli many times, we don't need bunker busters or ground troops in Iran, just a systematic destruction of infrastucture will change a lot of minds. It also minimizes civilian casulties.

In addition, the destruction of two buildings sent our economy into a tail spin for 2 years. Just imagine what would happen if we suddenly had no bridges, dams or power plants around several major cities. The Iranian leaders will be trying to figure out how to get to work, not rile up the masses against the great satan.

Every think that Iran wants a diplomatic solution because it benefits the terrorists.

Any diplomatic solution short of meeting Israeli demands would mean.

a. An end to the war. Any warfare means that Hezballah and Syria (if they are stupid enough to get into it) lose.

b. A diplomatic solution in the past has been UN resolutions. You know like the one that said that Hezballah was supposed to disarm. We know how those UN resolutions work so well dont we.

c. That a diplomatic solution means that Israel stops the decimation they are visiting upon Hezballah.

d. That Iran says they want a diplomatic solution the same way they say they only want nuclear energy and not nuclear weapons.

Here is a diplomatic solution
1. Return Israeli soldiers

3. Have the lebanon army responsible for the security of southern lebanon to ensure that no Hezballah soldiers come back.
