Rosie O'Donnell's Gulf of Tonkin Rant (Wizbang)

Now she's implying that 15 British sailors and marines were never kidnapped by Iran, but instead the whole thing was a contrived "Gulf of Tonkin" scenario by Bush as an excuse to attack Iran. Newsbusters has the transcript:

ROSIE O'DONNELL: But interesting with the British sailors, there were 15 British sailors and Marines who apparently went into Iranian waters and they were seized by the Iranians. And I have one thing to say: Gulf of Tonkin, Google it. Okay.

JOY BEHAR: Some other time. Some other time.

O'DONNELL: Well, you know...

BARBARA WALTERS: It could be a decision making time. It's a very difficult situation. It's at the United Nations. It's being examined now. Should there be sanctions? Militarily, we certainly don't seem to be in the position to do something militarily. But it is a decision making time.

O'DONNELL: Yes, but it's very interesting too that, you know, these guys, they went into the water by mistake right at a time when British and American, you know, they're two, they're pretty much our biggest ally and we're considering whether or not we should go into war with Iran.

BEHAR: But the U.N. was about to sanction them, also have an embargo against Iran. And the, and the timing [unintelligible] so they distracted the whole world with this.

ELISABETH HASSELBECK: Right and they may be about to expel the inspectors right now, too, which could be considered [unintelligible]

O'DONNELL: Right or it could be just the Gulf of Tonkin, which you should all Google.

Barbara Walters hasn't asked Rosie to tone down her stupidity. Does that mean that Barbara agrees with Rosie's take on the Bush Administration? Or the more likely reason is that she's completely lost control of her own show.

About to? No, no, Joy. There are already UN economic and trade sanctions in place against Iran for its failure to allow inspectors in and assure the world that nuclear program is peaceful. Not letting them in signals that the program is anything but "peaceful".

You may have a point about the Taliban; however, the insurgents argument falls flat since they are not ruling members of a nation state.

Actually, the Taliban argument falls flat, too, since they were routed out and are no longer a ruling member of a nation state.

Like I said, there's a difference. The key being, of course that pesky "nation state" moniker.

If the Brits are tortured by the Iranians, that is, by the standards of international law, an act of war.

Actually, depending on where the Brits were, their capture could be defined as an act of war.
