Okay, maybe not legally insane, but I have been reading transcripts from The View lately at Newsbusters and I am just wondering exactly what you would call her condition. I think it goes beyond simple BDS.
Yesterday I decided to stop relying on Newsbusters and watch a bit of The View myself. On Thursday's program, Rosie claimed that "nearly everyone in this administration is under indictment or suspicion." She said of the hostage situation involving British sailors being held by Iran, that it was wrong to take the approach that one side is evil and the other good. She claimed that EVERY person in the Bush administration was either under indictment or suspicion. I quoted a few of her statements in my column today at Townhall. The ones that I did not cite are quoted at Newsbusters. (More quotes here from Rosie's blog.)
What amazes me is that Barbara Walters and ABC have allowed Rosie to spout off like she does. It probably shouldn't surprise me though. For years, Joy Behar has misinformed the public during the "hot topics" segment on the show by incorrectly reciting bits of news reports. I think Behar just doesn't pay close enough attention to hear or understand the facts, and is influenced by her extreme bias. Since Rosie has joined the cast, Behar has ratcheted up her level of vitriol. Her recent comparison of Donald Rumsfeld to Hitler is just one example.
Last night on O'Reilly, Bernard Goldberg made a good point. Discussing Rosie O'Donnell 's recent outrageous comments, he defended Rosie and Joy's right to say as many irresponsible and stupid things as they want. He also said that in this capitalist system we all have the right to say we will never watch the show again. O'Reilly made the point that ABC has the right to decide they don't want to keep them on the show, and said ABC/Disney should be held responsible for all the irresponsible comments made on The View.
Hannity and Colmes included a Rosie segment on their show, as well. Could Rosie finally have gone too far? How much is too much for Barbara Walters to endure? Stay tuned. This controversy doesn't seem to be cooling any.

It is troubling that ABC insists on giving this person a forum. It would be comforting to think that we could correct the situation by voting with our feet but, speaking as one who has never watched the program, I am not optimistic. It takes a very small fraction of the American public to produce acceptable ratings for a daytime network show, and a small fraction of the American public will always be attracted to a suitably staged freak show. If pressure is to be brought, it must be brought on the sponors and the responsible ABC eecutives who allow this nonsense to go on. Bought any Disney stock lately?

She was saying it with so much hatred. Joy Behar was also sounding like a nut wondering about what it takes to impeach a President. Why do people even watch that show? It was ugly and hateful.

Note: Rosie O'Donnell is not a journalist, and is not a political scientist. She is not, in fact, required to be either accurate, informed, or even remotely on point.
She is a comedian, and an entertainer. She makes money when she either creates a stir, or gets people to care about what she says.
People, whether entertainers with pulpits, or average joes, can say what they want. We all have the choice of agreeing or disagreeing.
With folks like Rosie, and others from all sides of the political spectrum who use similar kinds of less-than-informed rhetoric, I tend to turn the TV off.

From the clips I have seen she is in deep BDS. I did notice something interesting. Rosie was saying something to the effect, that the American Press brainwashes us and most Americans do not know what is going on because of this so-called fact. She declared that SHE does know what is REALLY going on because she reads/views the press outside the US. She told the audience/viewers that they too should go to the press outside the US so they too can know what BAD things our Government is doing.
I had to laugh because this is the same exact argument Janeane Godawfulho makes (last I saw her on TV). They both seem to think THEY are the only ones that access these venues. In reality they take these news sources as gospel and don't know enough to assemble the full story from an array of sources.

How many of Rosie's critics here worship at the altar of "El Rushbo", America's Truth Detector, or tune in to Sean "Great American" Hannity for their nightly dose of partisan hacking, pseudo-journalistic swill?
What's the difference, really, between Rosie and these and other buffoons on the right? What are their credentials? Drug abusing, divorce-happy Limbaugh on his moral high horse? What a joke, but he's laughing all the way to the bank. And what about that beacon of truth, Hannity? His radio and TV shows are nothing but pure partisan lockstepping anti-Democrat bile, weaving half truths and bully-boy sanctimony into a mockery of journalism. Selective moral outrage anyone?
For Sean, Rush and all of their brown-shirted faithful though, it's all good because Rosie's just a (insert personal slurs here) whose opinions are mocked and ridiculed. There's really very little difference between Rosie's rants and the "opinions" spewing from the high priests of the church of conservative righteousness. I also basically agree with what "groucho" is saying above, namely that the likes of Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity aren't too far away from being in the same camp as Rosie O'Donnell--at least in my opinion.
It's a mstter of degree, not kind.
I would, of course, put Michael Moore and Al Franken into the same category as well.
While Rosie is a comedian with little political experience, Moore Hannity, Limbaugh, and Franken are all entertainers who have created politically-based schticks, and who have loyal followings. But they don't really investigate or report; they basically say what their viewers want to hear, in an often sarcastic and caustic way.
But it's all aimed at making money and entertaining certain audiences. Of course, Conservatives have no problem with Rush and Sean, for the most part, because those two generally toe the party line and spend a good deal of time bashing the "evil" liberals. The same is true for Moore and Franken, of course. They just go around bashing conservativs and spouting liberal rhetoric, all to entertain and make money.
I guess it's pretty important for us all to be critical and discerning when it comes to the information we receive, especially when it's difficult, at times, to tell the difference between an actual news show and one that's more propaganda and entertainment.
This is why I think someday we should have a media studies/analysis class in high schools, where kids are taught different ways of analyzing all of the information that they are inundated with. Teach them all the tricks and tactics of different media sources, so that they can better understand news, commercials, and political rhetoric. That's what I think...
At least Rosie O'Donnell is pretty easy to see through.

So you're arguing that Michael Moore, the political commentator, has the goal of making the country better? And the same goes for Rush I assume?

Ah, I see. You feel that Rush, Hannity, Michael Moore, and Al Franken are more "honest" because they tell you up front that there shows are about politics.
