Thank you Kim..I missed it..the children whose Dads and Moms are either "there" or going over "there" again as part of the surge..are the forgotten ones...think how many times this would be repeated if we brought most of them home...
Think of the kids whose Daddy or Mommy comes home in a flag draped coffin..think of the kids whose Daddy or mommy comes home missing a limb...think of the children whose Daddy or Mommy come back with PTSD...
But of course..as we send more..and extend more Daddy and Mommy...the children can just deal with it...
Bring'em Home...Send No More...

The sailor's wife said it best: "I'm so proud of him." I'm not willing to surrender and make the sacrifices of those who have laid down their lives for their country meaningless. I'm not willing for our country to bow in subjection to insurgents when there are great men and women in our military who willingly and knowingly sign up for fight for our freedom.

One person's negativity is another's reality. If it's a Kleenex moment you're shooting for, how about clips of mommy telling the kids daddy will never be coming home? Because really that's the kind of moment most "negative" posters here would like to eliminate by disentangling US from the sorry mess we've created over there.
Ban away. Then maybe this site will mirror the kind of world so many here seem to want; one in which there are no dissenting viewpoints, only the blissed out faithful marching in lockstep, secure and smug in their righteous condemnation of all that is different.

Oh yeah. Here it comes. Just like always. The intense need to politicize everything. No moments of "Yeah. This is the good stuff". Nope. It all has to be used for political gain, without the benefit of asking Bill Haas his opinion. It's all politics with liberals.
So, I'll say it: This is the good stuff.

Me? I'm just glad that the little boy wasn't afraid of his father on television. It's tough with very small kids. They don't always recognize Daddy or Mommy when they get home again. It can tear your heart out.
Still, none of that makes me any less proud of those who go, and doubly proud of those who wait for them to get home.

Synova,
It's not that it's a hard thing, it's a wrong thing and that's what makes the loss or destruction of life so much more painful. I have contributed to groups collecting items to send to the soldiers over there. I have spoken with those who have survived and returned home and, honestly, their feelings are decidedly mixed, some supportive of the mission, others discouraged. Unlike Kim, I have lost no one in this war and I think not one more life need be lost in this colossal foreign policy blunder.
Sacrifice is worthy if the cause is just. I've seen nothing in the last four years that makes me think this is one justifies the loss of 3200+ lives and the disruption of countless thousands more. I support and respect our men and women in uniform and sympathize deeply with those who have suffered loss. It's the people with their hands on the controls I have an issue with. And no, those positions are not mutually exclusive.

Because their families will be dead too, so there'd be nobody to grieve for them.

You think it's bad what we're trying to do. I don't. I don't think it's a waste. I wish to heck that people could get their heads out of their rears and realize that we need to *do* something about the middle east because the "system" there is broken. The rest of the world gets better on human rights, or tries, but country after country there is dominated by tyrants and oppression and instead of getting pushed back it's spreading... and when life sucks wise rulers focus the anger outward. Hindus are catching it. Lots of people are catching that hatred, not just us.
At one time liberals could have been counted on to understand that oppression bleeds outward. Now they've decided that if we just leave well enough alone it will stay over there and who really cares if they prey on each other.
Disagree if you like. Have objections to those making the decisions. Believe the choices are wrong and the war is wrong and all that.
You can do that and support troops.
But I don't think you can piss on comment threads about a heartwarming homecoming and support troops.

I know where my feelings on this comes from and I know why it took me years to feel comfortable even hugging other ladies at church.
My point was that I don't insist that other people be like me. I know that many people are not at all like me in this and you know, they are probably more emotionally healthy than I am because of it.

I don't cry easily, either. I don't begrudge or belittle any of the other folks who have. To a normal person, it was a very touching moment, whether you were moved to tears or not....
...to Bryan, nogo, et al, it's ammunition, a resource to exploit.
