- “I wore the uniform in Vietnam and many came back to all kinds of disrespect. Whatever we think of war, we owe the men and women of the armed forces our unconditional support.“
Connecticut Attorney General and U.S. Senate candidate Richard Blumenthal, as quoted by The Advocate at a Stamford Veterans Day parade in 2008. This quote is separate from the quotes and videos unearthed by The New York Times earlier this week. Blumenthal received five deferments and joined the Marine Reserves when he was no longer able to escape the draft with employment deferments. He was never deployed to to Vietnam. Not surprisingly his poll numbers have gone into free fall.
