Quote Of The Day – Sinking Ship Edition

I wore the uniform in Vietnam and many came back to all kinds of disrespect. Whatever we think of war, we owe the men and women of the armed forces our unconditional support.

Connecticut Attorney General and U.S. Senate candidate Richard Blumenthal, as quoted by The Advocate at a Stamford Veterans Day parade in 2008. This quote is separate from the quotes and videos unearthed by The New York Times earlier this week. Blumenthal received five deferments and joined the Marine Reserves when he was no longer able to escape the draft with employment deferments. He was never deployed to to Vietnam. Not surprisingly his poll numbers have gone into free fall.

Previously, Blumenthal has claimed to have been Captain of the Harvard Swim Team.

He was never even ON the Harvard Swim Team.

As a practiced liar, he is an ideal Democratic nominee.

  • Upset Old Guy

I live in CT and have found Richard Blumenthal’s behavior as AG offensive for a number of years. He’s been one of those “crusading” Attorneys General, teaming with Spitzer and the then CA AG back in the day. He has never been happy to do his work in the background and is a master at presenting a sanctimonious, self-righteous public persona during his numerous press conferences.

His press conference on this matter earlier this week was offensive. No apology, although he did say he “regretted” it (I think most criminals also regret being caught, so he has that in common with them) but mostly he just wanted to say that he wasn’t going to let anyone denigrate his record of service to the state. It was quite the performance.

From now on, if I mention this guy, I’ll just call him (a) dick.

How times have changed…now it is vogue to be a “Vietnam Veteran”, so that even men who did not serve are lying to say the did!!! Way back when, someone like him would have been lying to say he never served. It has nothing to do with the truth, to these career politicians it is all about what is popular at the moment, or what will enhance his background.

I live in CT and I never liked him. He is always going after someone to sue. Remember, if he lies about this he’ll lie about everything else.

We had a long serving Democratic Congressman in western Illinois, Lane Evans, who was a former marine. As much as I disagreed with Rep. Evans, he was always careful to say that he was “a Viet Nam era veteran;” he never lied about his service. I did serve in Viet Nam (1970-71) and consider it an insult for any politician to lie about his military record. I hope Mr. Blumenthal gets his just reward for his dishonesty at the next election.

  • GeneralChoomin

It’s a politicians perogative to be a liar. Just some lie more then others. Our electoral system is literally crap and needs to be scrapped since a two party system doesn’t work. Either put in cascading runoff voting system or just scrap it for a parliamentary system. Tradition be damned!

Speaking of sinking ships, hows the oil spill going? I noticed you blogged about a rat in DC (oh my god!!) and not about the environmental disaster that will cripple gulf coast states economies for years to come. You are lagging as bloggers since, If I where in your shoes, I would jump all over BP.

Nothing gives a site credibility like talking about important issues. This would be such a prime thing to do to make “the environment” a non politicized issue since most of America is disgusted and outraged by what is happening. If you don’t recognize it, then you will be forced to by a lot of pissed off tea partiers. Who will lose their livelihoods in those solid redstates.

Anyways, I take offense at old guy’s comment.

I live in CT and have found Richard Blumenthal’s behavior as AG offensive for a number of years. He’s been one of those “crusading” Attorneys General, teaming with Spitzer and the then CA AG back in the day.

Spitzer was a pretty good AG and did his job as best he could in regards prosecuting those thief bankers. As AG of NY he was great. Which cannot be said for his governorship of NY. But as AG he was one of the few to confront and prosecute the crimes that the Federal government refused to do.

  • Upset Old Guy

I live to offend, glad to be of service. But go sit down now and check your blood pressure. Maybe have a cup of tea. Think about the good old days when Spitzer was AG.

  • Dude Nation

Piffle. If every man who ever overestimated the size of his dick were barred from public office, the govt would be run by women and Jerry Nadler, who probably hasn’t seen his since the Carter administration.

  • GeneralChoomin

PS Blumenthal can go to hell. My uncle was a vietnam vet and he still suffers from the affects of agent orange. He should of kept his dumb mouth shut instead of trying to score political bullshit points.

The Vietnam war shouldn’t be used as a talking point. It was a disaster for everyone involved in every aspect. To those that served on both sides the suffering still lingers. Fuck him and I hope he loses.

Just like I hope Mccain loses his primary. He not only disrespected the troops and his family. He disrespected the person who saved his life from a Vietnamese lynching during war. In those days, fighter pilots where not considered to be protected under the Geneva convention in north Vietnam. They where considered “enemy combatants” and “terrorists”. A policy we sadly adopted.

When McCain crashed into a lake several Vietnamese went out of their bomb shelters and saved him from drowning to death. A mob formed to lynch him and a peasant named Mai Van On saved his life. McCain snubbed his savior even though the man still believed McCain was an honorable man till the day he died.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-542277/How-war-hero-John-McCain-betrayed-Vietnamese-peasant-saved-life.html

To show disrespect for both sides is sickening. Vietnam Vets don’t go to Vietnam for holidays. They go there because of reconciliation as well as the mutual friendship and respect that each side has for the other. John McCain went there to smooth out a trade deal and get a photo op. Fuck him.

McCain is the Arlen Specter of the right. He has no principles and will flip on a dime to get reelected. 2010 is the year of cleaning house of career politicians who are two faced frauds. So please do your part because us leftest are doing ours. How else are we going to fix the country if congress is full of people who have neither courage nor conviction.

“Five deferments” doesn’t that tie Cheney, and Blumenthal statements on his service in Vietnam, mirror a few of of Bush’s whoppers, for example, his “I’ve been to war”. But they are all politicians, so what do you expect?

  • GarandFan

Good ol’ Stevie, snarky as ever.

“Five deferments” doesn’t that tie Cheney

IIRC, Cheney never mentioned serving in Vietnam. Or did he Stevie?

  • GeneralChoomin

lol people just vote out if reflex here. This blog should be called “vote echo chamber”.

I live to offend, glad to be of service. But go sit down now and check your blood pressure. Maybe have a cup of tea. Think about the good old days when Spitzer was AG.

What’s your point? That white collar crime is good? lol

  • Upset Old Guy

“What’s your point? That white collar crime is good?”

What’s my point? You dense, son? On a blog post about Dick Blumenthal you get all steamed up about nobody talking about the oil spill in the Gulf. And as a sidebar you throw in what a good AG Spitzer was (’cause he went after the evil bankers).

Talk to me again when you grow up, if I’m still alive by then.

  • OLDPUPPYMAX

Unfortunately, leftist lies, misrepresentations and contempt for the US military and the American people count as “recommendations” in Connecticut!

  • 914

    AWOL Choomin-

“What’s your point? That white collar crime is good? lol”

    It works for Barry.

  • JLawson

    “It works for Barry.”

It’s working REALLY well for him…

Not so hot for the rest of us, but as long as the aristocracy and syncophants are happy, who gives a damn about anyone else?

  • GarandFan

    Oooops!

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_army_infiltrator

Where the hell were these people in 1969? I’d have gladly swapped places at the time.

  • GarandFan

This blog should be called “vote echo chamber”.

Why don’t you stick around for awhile. You’ll actually see posts were we disagree with each other. Not like over at DK where you take turns kissing each others asses.

  • 914

“Not like over at DK where you take turns kissing each others asses.”

    Hahaahahahahahahahahahahhaahahahaha! Thread winner!!!

  • Steve Crickmore

GrandFan, if it will make you feel any better, five deferments is pretty standard, de rigeur for politicians, especially vice presidents. Joe Biden had five student deferments during the Vietnam war as well.

  • GarandFan

Richard Blumenthal isn’t fit to shine this guys shoes.

Not sure how to say this…

Wait yes I do, look asswipe, I note you have no link associated with your moniker which means one of two things YOU have no blog or… you have one and are GUTLESS to “advertise” it.

I”n short you have ZERO authority to be critical of anyone with regards to waht is or is not published.
