Oslo killer in the act

This grainy photo taken from a helicopter shows the killer standing in the midst of the carnage, apparently looking toward his next victim on the lower left who appears to be pleading for his life.

It is horrific.  It is evil.  It is cause for us all to seek God’s face.

By way of the folks at LiveLeak.

In the meantime, the killer is emerging to not be what was widely thought initially:

The Norwegian charged with going on a killing spree in which at least 91 people died is a former member of a populist anti-immigration party who wrote blogs attacking multiculturalism and Islam.

The suspect, detained after 84 people were gunned down at a youth camp and another 7 killed in a bomb attack Friday, has been identified by Norwegian media as Anders Behring Breivik.

Website entries under Breivik’s name criticised European policies of trying to accommodate the cultures of different ethnic groups, and claimed a significant minority of young British Muslims back radical Islamic militancy.

“When did multiculturalism cease to be an ideology designed to deconstruct European culture, traditions, identity and nation-states?” said one entry, posted on February 2, 2010 on the right-wing website www.document.no.

“According to two studies, 13 percent of young British Muslims aged between 15 and 25 support al Qaeda ideology,” said another entry dated February 16 last year.

Police searched an apartment in an Oslo suburb Friday, but neighbours said the home belonged to Breivik’s mother, whom they described as a nice lady.

Deputy Police Chief Roger Andresen would not speculate on the motives for what was believed to be the deadliest attack by a lone gunman anywhere in modern times. But they said the man in custody had described himself on his Facebook page as leaning towards right-wing Christianity.

Blood in the water for haters of Christians the world over.  The feeding frenzy will begin in 3, 2, 1…

The document.no website - Google Translate says “be right back.”

“Right wing Christianity” is just an empty cliche, until we know exactly who or what his influences were, and what he specifically believed.  Plus the fact that he’s got to be a certifiable loony.  But what really has to hurt the Left is, once again, the conspicuous absence of any reference to Sarah Palin.

One more thing, he’s also very handsome, kind of like the long-lost kid brother of Julian Sands.  I’d look for him to eventually have a bigger cult following of swooning women than Ted Bundy.

The left will jump all over this of course but at the end of the day, insane is as insane does.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_425GVKQCLFZMQYYENR7CJBRDVA jb

If only he was Islamic. Then jumping to conclusions would be no problem.

    • Anonymous

Well, Islam has many mainstream organized entities, with members, that follow clear directions for the destruction of Israel, The US, and all “infidels” and the use of violence. Im sure you have heard of al-Qaeda, Hamas, And others (I can name at least 10 for you if you need it).

Can you name me one mainstream conservative or right-wing organization (not individual) that does the same?

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_425GVKQCLFZMQYYENR7CJBRDVA jb

You mean, how should I jump to conclusions?

There is good reading in his manifesto for that, if I were so inclined. Including this lovely tidbit:

“Let us hope that the US (Democratic and Republican party) allows us,
their European cultural and economical crown vassals, to liberate
ourselves and deport the Muslims without them militarily intervening. We shouldn’t forget that we have many allies in the US including a sizable faction of the Republican Party.”

However, I’m NOT so inclined. This is obviously NOT someone acting out as part of some grand conspiracy, as would be the inevitable right-wing statements were this particular nutball to happen to be Islamic.

What this obviously is, is a loon who grabbed onto some right-wing theories because they made him feel superior and in some dramatic life-and-death struggle with evil hordes, and acted on this feeling to a homicidal conclusion. This is the result when people spread hate – some unbalanced people grab onto it and take it over the cliff. Basically a Norwegian Jared Loughner.

Oh yes, let’s blame hate speech. Because that is limited to the right?

You mean jumping to conclusions like gov bloomberg blaming the times sq bombing in NY on a tea pay member, when it turned out to be Islamic terrorism. You mean like president Obama calling the fort hood massacre a lone individual when he was following a defined Ideology of al Qaeda?

Show me one member of the republican party that has promoted murder. I can show you hundreds od Islamic leaders that have. Want to challenge me to see who can name more?

Liberal philosophy is really interesting and laughable.

          • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_425GVKQCLFZMQYYENR7CJBRDVA jb

Sure. Let’s all condemn hate speech, from any source. Whether it is from someone who identifies with whatever our side might be, or not.

Is there something wrong with that?

          • Anonymous

Nothing wrong with that. We agree there.

But I suspect that our definition of hate speech is different. There is a middle ground between the 2 extremes of hate speech and political correctness.

And let’s be sure we don’t lose the distinction of hate speech articulated by individual nut jobs, and hate speech supported by organizations (including religions).

I think we can draw the line at when people say “Those people are scum who need to be eliminated because they threaten everything we hold dear.”

The closer statements are to that line, the more likely some loony isn’t going to realize it’s just rhetoric.

So, maybe I’m reaching here, but basically the Norwegian equivalent of a  tea party guy went nuts and tried to blow up the Norwegian White House, with its liberal president inside, then sailed over to young Norwegian Democrat island and gunned down 90 kids?  Can’t wait to see how you guys will spin this one.

    • Anonymous

I reply by saying you have a few screw’s loose that need tightening..

Yeah, I tend to disagree with you, 914.  This guy sounds like most of the creepy-crawlies that inhabit this website.

        • Anonymous

Only an idiot like you would draw such black and white parallels between American and European politics.

    • Anonymous

Why would this need to be spun? Is there a legitimate main-stream organized right wing that promotes violence? Can you point to a conservative group that would support such acts?

    • Constitution First

What planet do you live on?

  • Anonymous

You’ll notice the lefties are all about ‘spin’.

The guy is a nut.  Yet under their system of ‘justice’, the most he’ll get is 21 years in prison.

What this guy wrote, he would have fit in well as a main contributor to Wizbang:  Muslims, muslims, marxists, feminists, yadda  yadda.

Got the BIG PAINT BRUSH out today, don’t we?

Much of what this guy wrote, it turns out he lifted from Ted Kaczynski.

Who lifted a lot of what he wrote from somebody else — can’t remember the name…

“Blood in the water for haters of Christians the world over.  The feeding frenzy will begin in 3, 2, 1…”

Anyone who starts blaming the entirety of Christianity for the actions and ideas of this guy is either incredibly foolish or simply trying to further their own agenda/political beliefs.  The same argument, of course, applies in other cases like this.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_425GVKQCLFZMQYYENR7CJBRDVA jb

Sure. This goes for any people who blame the entirety of any religion, for the actions of a nut.

      Right?

      • http://ethnografix.blogspot.com/ ryan anderson

Yep, jb, that’s the point.  It’s an argument that applies across the board.  Glad you got it.

        • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_425GVKQCLFZMQYYENR7CJBRDVA jb

OK, great. Now just please remember this the next time a loonie happens to be Islamic, and we’re all good to go.

          • http://ethnografix.blogspot.com/ ryan anderson

Once again, that’s the whole point, jb.  Yes, I am being subtle here, but there’s a reason for it.  Let me know when you figure out the lay of the land, so to speak.

          • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_425GVKQCLFZMQYYENR7CJBRDVA jb

I’m glad to hear you feel this way, and glad that you have apparently committed to the high road. In keeping with that, let’s not pretend that taking the high road after horrific events like this is a universal occurrence.

I specifically mention Fox News and many other outlets, respected among most conservatives, who immediately jumped to assume this must be the work of a Muslim.

John Wayne Gacy, a democratic political operative in Chicago raped and killed many little boys and hid their bodies under his house for years. Sounds like the kind of liberal slime that hangs around here. Watch your little boys, the libs are around. ww

      You mean Bachmann’s hero?

  • Jeff Blogworthy

The current world population is approximately 6,775,235,700. The left finds a lone right-wing nutcase who went on a killing spree and seeks to make him representative of all the rest. Good luck with that. The odds of getting killed or even mugged by a “right-winger” are about as good as winning the lottery 10 times in a row. Note that no main-stream right-wingers have yet come up with the “they got what they deserved” and the “they brought it on themselves” lines yet. It took the left… What? About 10 min. post 9/11 to come up with those?

  • Jeff Blogworthy

I don’t know how I missed it, but the killer’s facebook page was apparently deliberately altered to include the tags “Christian” and “Conservative” AFTER THE FACT.

Did someone alter his 1000+ page manifesto also?

      • Jeff Blogworthy

His manifesto is being discussed on other threads. As for the alteration of the facebook page, I am now doubting the veracity of that claim. I took it on the word and posted examples of various bloggers, but I think they may just be confused as to how facebook works. That’s probably because it IS confusing. I can’t say for sure whether the page was altered or not, but I doubt it. More proof is required. Note I used the word “apparently” above. That qualifier was no accident.
