Todd Palin addresses the smears, the innuendo, the latest falsehoods about his wife

It’s a wonder the guy hasn’t punched somebody out yet:

Todd_palin Sarah Palin’s husband jumped to her defense Thursday after an upcoming book claimed the Republican politician snorted cocaine off an oil drum and had a premarital fling with an African-American basketball star.

“The Rogue: Searching for the Real Sarah Palin” by Joe McGinniss — who moved in next to Palin’s home in Alaska last year as part of his research — comes out Tuesday, as the Tea Party darling ponders whether to formally seek the Republican presidential nomination.

“This is a man who has been relentlessly stalking my family to the point of moving in right next door to us to harass us and spy on us to satisfy his creepy obsession with my wife,” husband Todd Palin said.

“His book is full of disgusting lies, innuendo, and smears,” he added in a statement carried by several US news media and political blogs.

“Even the New York Times called this book ‘dated, petty,’ and that it ‘chases caustic, unsubstantiated gossip.’”

McGinniss is slimy… but do you think that’ll stop the press from granting the man interviews purposed in pumping his book?

Not just no, but hell no.  There’s a conservative woman out there that needs trashing and destroying and by God, they’re going to do their damndest to getting that job done.

I completely concur.  Joe McGinniss is a slime seller whose every word is a lie.

Just ’cause he’s an equal opportunity slimebag, well, so what?

      • Anonymous

So you say Jeffrey MacDonald is innocent?    It’s true that Jeff didn’t get a fair trial – the prosecutor withheld evidence of blonde synthetic fibers in the house that would have supported the Helena Stockley with a blond wig story, if you’re familiar with the case. But there are other possible explanations for the presence of the fibers, I’m sure.

Nope, I was classifying JM as someone at the other end of the spectrum.  I recall reading up on this long ago, not feeling I could make a judgement on the case, but also hoping no one ever decided to kill my wife when I was out.

and Obama is gay …  unsettling …

  • Anonymous

Huh. We done scooped each other again.

Times like this, I almost miss L__ W___. He was all over the “Obama did cocaine and had interracial sex with a guy” story — right up until Obama clinched the nomination. I doubt he’d want to bring up Mr. Larry Sinclair now, but it would be fun to taunt him about it.

This piling on, this over-the-top [attempted] destruction of the Palin family is unbelievable and despicable. And of course, the MSM cannot get enough of it.

This isn’t right, the american people, far left excluded, know that.
And yet the ever tolerant left, the first to whine and complain when things don’t go their way, the first to claim it’s not fair when other disagree with them, won’t understand that.

Well, it isn’t going to work any more. Decent people are going to reject it.
And the left will be the last to know why, if they ever do.

    • Bob Armstrong

Looky dere – Hank M was the first to whine, not a lefty.

You guys smearing  McGinnniss while complaining about him smearing others is so telling. The right has created this atmosphere and now lefties are stepping up to the plate. And the right is whining – while complaining about whining.

      PRICELESS!

      • http://ethnografix.blogspot.com/ ryan a

In all fairness, Bob, the current political atmosphere was created by players on all sides of the political spectrum.  It’s not really a case in which either the left or the right is free from responsibility.  It’s the extreme, hyper partisans that love to sow the seeds of political conflict–and way too many people get swept up in it all.

        • Anonymous

          No Kidding, Ryan.

Look at all these unsubstantiated smears against the CINC:

“The Obama administration has strengthened our borders while making our immigration system smart and fair. ”  “President Obama is a friend to Israel, despite unfounded claims to the contrary.”  “President Obama believes in common sense gun control laws compatible with Second Amendment rights. ”  “Fact check: TARP was signed into law by President Bush, and the overall cost to taxpayers has been significantly reduced under President Obama. ”  “President Obama was born in the United States and is an American citizen—period. ”  “By providing assistance to auto companies, President Obama saved more than a million jobs and prevented the American auto industry from collapsing.”  “The Affordable Care Act promotes quality, affordable health coverage for all Americans, regardless of the industry they work in or their union status.”  “President Obama is eliminating outdated regulations while strengthening commonsense standards to promote health and safety.”

          Can you believe it?!?

          • http://ethnografix.blogspot.com/ ryan a

Are you telling me that you think political bullshit only comes from one side?

          • http://www.rustedsky.net Anonymous

I’m thinking that there’s been much more of it coming from the left than the right – the left’s been doing all it can to get into power, and now that it’s there (or was, I think the 2012 election is going to see the House, Senate AND the Presidency go to Republicans again, and it’ll be a long time before another Democrat gets the Presidency…) the main effort will be to hold on to that power as long as possible however possible.  If they’ve got to come up with photoshopped threesomes between Todd, Sarah and a Polar Bear, they’ll do it.

And at this point, about all they’ve got left are words. The actions they’ve taken haven’t exactly come out the way they expected, their ideology (which was touted as much superior to the eEvile Rethuglicans) isn’t working out.  So they’ve got to go for the emotional response, because the reasoned response isn’t going to get them anything.Desperate times call for desperate measures.  And the desperation by the Dems is only going to get worse and worse.

          • http://ethnografix.blogspot.com/ ryan a

Ah, you know my stance on all this JLawson.  I think there is a lot of politicking and clamoring all around.  But I sound like a broken record with all of this middle of the road stuff!  I agree with you that the politics are going to get ugly though.  Oh what fun, no?

          • Anonymous

Your “middle of the road” stance is a liberal interpretation, echoing the distorted perceptions promulgated by touchy feely education.  Certainly politics is the art of distorting perception of differing groups to get them to agree on a common concept (like, ELECT ME!).  But the point on this post and the comments of conservatives in this thread point to the lack of any moral compass in the current Democrat and liberal population when attacking their opposition.

There are times when one side is right and the other is wrong.  What kind of slime-ball character assassination has Sarah Palin performed against her rivals or enemies?

            [pin drops]

You’ll stop being disingenuous when you can give any, much less an equal, set of examples from the Mama Grizzly.

            Doc -

He’s at least admitting the whole pile of crap is causing more problems than it’s solving.  We might not agree eye to eye on what the causes are, but that we agree there’s a problem is a start in the right direction.  We can’t solve the problem unless we communicate, and it sure seems like there’s folks who want to prevent us from finding any common ground whatsoever.

thread point to the lack of any moral compass in the current Democrat
and liberal population when attacking their opposition.”

I already said that I think this crap against Palin is deplorable.  But I’m not surprises, since I have seen it before.  People let their politics completely drag them down.

“There are times when one side is right and the other is wrong.  What
kind of slime-ball character assassination has Sarah Palin performed
            against her rivals or enemies?”

Ok.  From my experience, I’d argue that both “sides” have their abhorrent elements.  That doesn’t mean this applies to Palin directly.  I haven’t seen her do anything that comes close to this kind of thing.

“You’ll stop being disingenuous when you can give any, much less an equal, set of examples from the Mama Grizzly”

Nope.  My argument isn’t that *Palin* does the same thing.  I am just saying that there are factions of the left *and* the right that are prone to less than honorable political choices.  You may disagree with me, but don’t try to call me “disingenuous” just because I don’t parrot what you think is right.

          • http://ethnografix.blogspot.com/ ryan a

By the way Doc, don’t mistake my argument here.  When I say that I am in the middle of the road, this doesn’t mean that I am looking at both sides wistfully and wondering why “we can’t all just get along.”  I am not making some polyanna argument, but instead noting–based upon my experiences and studies–the less than ideal aspects of BOTH of our main political parties.  Often, I am not all that impressed with the politics of either side.  Maybe it would be better to say that I am instead standing on the side of the this screwed up road, rather than the middle.  I’d take another road, but there isn’t one at present.

            “Oh what fun, no?”
I’d have to say ‘no’ on that.  I’m not even finding it entertaining at this point, more depressing than anything else.  And the sorry thing is – there’s not a damn thing we can do about it.  They’re doing what they’ve found ‘works’ – horse race, attempting to trip up everyone else by any means possible, dirty tricks and all.

It’s an example of the process being much more important than the results.  It’s like trying to pick the best possible candidate from a selection of actor’s head shots and a 20 word statement on why they’re best for the job.

It’s bloody damn depressing – we’re selecting for electability and ignoring all other factors.

          • http://ethnografix.blogspot.com/ ryan a

“It’s bloody damn depressing – we’re selecting for electability and ignoring all other factors.”

Yep.  You know, I just re-read something about that Nixon vs Kennedy debate where it all became about image, makeup, and TV.  The folks who heard the debate on the radio felt that Nixon completely won–the people who watched it on TV and got caught up in how they looked felt completely different.  And ever since things have become more and more about image and electability.  I agree with you JLawson, this stuff gets pretty depressing.  I keep myself pretty updated about politics and all, but sometimes I get tired of hearing all the BS.

          • http://www.rustedsky.net Anonymous

And lately, it seems like there’s more and more of it.

I think the 2008 election was a complete triumph of image over substance.  I don’t think McCain was the best possible candidate, but I believe he had the knowledge necessary to do the job.

(Perhaps not in an optimal manner – but the Presidency isn’t a job where you can go in, sit at a desk from 9 to 5, and do what your supervisor hands you to do, then collect a paycheck at the end of the week. There is no ‘optimal’ when it comes to the Presidency – you get elected, and you’re looking at doing your best to just get through.)

The Presidency requires a broad range of knowlege (or at least enough familiarity to know when you DON’T know enough, which is why you need a willingness to hire the best possible people to advise you) of a lot of subjects.  It’s also necessary to  know when NOT to do something because the ramifications down the line are going to cause their own problems.

I’m afraid what we’re seeing is a President who’s been told he’s so great for so long that he essentially doesn’t believe there’s any limits on what he can do – that every idea he comes up with is perfect, wonderful, and doesn’t have any ‘unforseen consequences’ that will come back to bite him in the results with exceedingly sharp teeth.

And the stupid SOB doesn’t LEARN from his mistakes.  I don’t know if he’s just incapable of thinking he’s wrong, unwilling to admit he can be wrong because it’ll take away from his suposed mystique, or simply doesn’t give a shit because “I’ve got mine, Jack, and I don’t really give a shit about you.”

The thing which really caught my eye was Obama’s “”If you love me, you’ve got to help me pass this bill!” moment.

            http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20106206-503544.html

That’s hitting WAY deeper into ‘Cult of Personality’ territory than I want to see – and it worries the shit out of me he’s going in that direction.

          • http://ethnografix.blogspot.com/ ryan a

Good points, as usual.  From my perspective, the Republicans and the Dems have a lock on things and they keep upping the ante, so to speak.  They play off one another, and they can keep doing this because they have no competition.  The Tea Party has tried, but in many ways they are under the fold of the GOP–at least that’s how I see it.  The Independents, the Greens, the Libertarians…none of the them really provide any alternative or competition.  I don’t know.  It seems to me that this two-party deadlock has to be broken at some point, otherwise we are going to keep doing the same dance that has been happening for the last few decades.  It’s all reaction and counter-reaction.  But I may be too cynical today.

Well, I still am waiting for as repugnant examples of mainstream attacks by established Republican national figures (AFTER  Nixon, please).

          • http://ethnografix.blogspot.com/ ryan a

So you mean to say that you’re calling this author (McGinniss) an “established national figure”?  I just want to get your argument straight here.

        McGinniss isn’t being smeared.

        Normally I ignore you Bob.

But your statement that “The right has created this atmosphere..” is pure projection.

Politics in this country went into the gutter with the “daisy” ads. Then we seemed to recover some sense of politeness until Ted Kennedy forever ruined political discourse with his attack on Robert Bork. The left continued with their public lynching of Clarence Thomas and they’ve never looked back, Palin merely being the latest target.

You show how comfortable you are with this when you write f**k Texas, and by calling everyone else a liar and a racist.

  • http://ethnografix.blogspot.com/ ryan a

I agree that the political smear campaigns against Palin are totally repugnant.  Absolutely.  This kind of crap has gone way too far–and the partisans on both sides eat it up like candy.

But this is also a two-way street.  People on the left AND right willingly engage in this kind of crap all the time, and it only makes things worse.  It certainly helps keep the various factions at each others’ throats, doesn’t it?  At some point people on various sides of the political spectrum are going to get tired of this crap.  At least, I hope so.

I kinda wish Todd Palin would handle his media problem in the same manner as Evel Knievel. He might go to jail for a bit, but he could do the time. Knievel only got six months.

For those unfamiliar with the story, Google “Evel Knievel baseball bat.”

    • Bob Armstrong

I wish Todd the Clod would do what you suggested, too. Then we could make jokes about his prison lovelife.

The execrable Left and its Fascist (AKA “mainstream”) Press have defamed demonized demeaned libeled and slandered President-Elect Palin and have barely stopped short of emptying their bedpans on our President-Elect and her family.

And, the while taking the measure of her every hater and opponent, dhimmicrat and Republican alike and having flicked away the Left’s every assault and come through it all with her head held high and her other cheek turned and ready for the next wave of assaults, all President-Elect Palin needs to do is toss her name into the ring and be assured, come January 20 2012, of moving into and restoring the dignity of our 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue house.
