Whitney Houston, RIP

With few details as of yet, the Associated press is reporting that Whitney Houston has died at the much-too-young age of 48.

While her life took a reckless and drug-addled turn after marrying Bobby Brown, most Americans (especially we Gulf War veterans) will forever remember her as the queen of our patriotic hearts for her rendition of the Star Spangled Banner to open the January 1991 Super Bowl.

Whatever unfortunate turns her life may have taken, and regardless of whether one was much of a Whitney Houston fan before or after, those two minutes have been sewn into the fabric of our American culture.

Thank you for that. Rest in peace, Whitney.

That’s a damn shame, but hardly a surprise. That train had been headed for a wreck for 20 years.

She was blessed with incredible talent and we were blessed to enjoy it while it lasted. Terrible waste.  May she rest in the peace she was trying so hard to find.

Sad ending for her. I blame Bobby Brown.

For once, I agree with you completely.  Seeing some of the pictures of her during their relationship was a shock I won’t forget.  I wasn’t a huge fan (Aunt Dionne was more my speed), but was under the impression she was doing well again.

Thoughts and prayers for her family and friends.  RIP.

So, so sad.  She was extraordinarily beautiful and talented. What a tragic ending to a life that seemed to hold so much promised.

Like Karen Carpenter before her, great voices leave this earth way too soon.
