Olbermann Canned, Again

Here’s your feel good Friday afternoon story.  Keith Olbermann has been fired by CurrentTV.

Current was also founded on the values of respect, openness, collegiality, and loyalty to our viewers. Unfortunately these values are no longer reflected in our relationship with Keith Olbermann and we have ended it.

One could of course ask why they started it in the first place.  I attended a speech at Cornell by Olbermann back when he was just a witty sportscaster for ESPN.  The speech was fine and generally entertaining.  I was pretty shocked to watch his spiral downward into leftwing lunacy.  The spiral, it seems, continues.  The NYTimes adds:

Mr. Olbermann will not be given an opportunity to sign off, since Mr. Spitzer will start his new show on Friday night. This will be Mr. Spitzer’s second shot at an 8 p.m. talk show; in 2010, two years after he resigned the governorship after admitting to his involvement in a prostitution ring, he led a short-lived show on CNN. It was cancelled in mid-2011.

I’m not sure which is worse–getting fired from a network with basically no viewers or being replaced by a disgraced politician who is himself a laughingstock?

HotAir reports that Olbermann has started spewing a bunch of tweets in response.  I’d post those here but I don’t want to ever give the man a wider audience for his unhinged rants.  HotAir does note that part of the rants target Al Gore.  I’m not sure the whole situation could be any sweeter.  Enjoy and have nice weekend, all.

  • Maybe Roseanne Barr has an opening on her staff for a new boy toy…

    • Gmacr1

      She is teh ghey…

Besides, having those two pms’ing bitches in the same room could lead to the total global annihilation of all sentinent life on Earth.

      • Ha! Ha! Ha! Over at the Daily Caller they have some great/funny comments too…

    • Nah. Even Roseanne has limits.

  • Gmacr1

Poor Keefums, he’s gonna have more hang time in the crib.
Even OwlGore can’t stand the SOB.

The schadenfruede is tasty, I think I’ll have another!

  • jim_m

Maybe Oprah can hire him to replace Rosie O’Donnell on her OWN network.  It’s another channel no one watches.  Olbermann would feel right at home.

    •  I think he’d fit in nicely at “The View.”

  • jim_m

I was pretty shocked to watch his spiral downward into leftwing lunacy

Wait…Were we talking about Keith Olbermann or Charles Johnson?

  • Hugh_G

Good. He does no service to democrats and liberals. Hope the door doesn’t hit him in the ass.

  • That has got to leave a mark. Getting fired by one of the most liberal politicians that ever came down the pike, has to be humiliating. Wonder where he will end up this time? Oh got a perfect position for him: SNL Weekend Update. Maybe he will inject a bit of comedy that is sorely needed there.

  • GarandFan

    Hahahahaha!!!!  Keefums is gonna SUE!
Maybe he can get some legal advice from Dan Rather.

  • davidt

Is Hollywood Squares still on the air?

  • UOG

With both Keith and Rosie currently out of work perhaps they could team up and form their own network. Maybe call it N ‘n N Network (Nutty and Nasty) and leave it to us to wonder with is Nutty and which is Nasty.

    • jim_m

I’ve had ‘Nuf of both of ’em, ‘n I don’t want to watch Neither of ’em

  • Some folks just exist to be bad examples…

    •  And Wizbang seems to have a particular abundance of them amongst its commenters.

  • Look for Olberman to start posting as the resident troll here since he wont be able to find another job.

  • Commander_Chico

Olbermann makes me think of Howard Beale on Network.

Almost no question that Spitzer was done in by private investigators from the Wall Street crooks he went after, who then tipped off the feds. There are a lot of “escort” ads in the Yellow Pages for a reason – they are rarely prosecuted. Spitzer should have known they would go after him, so he’s a dumbass.

    •  Client #9 done in by private investigators hired by Wall Street? Surely you jest. It was a NYPD vice squad investigation that did in Client #9. To believe that Wall Street had anything to do with his demise, is just plain unadulterated fiction.

      • Commander_Chico

NYPD had nothing to do with it.  The banks told the FBI his financial transactions were “suspicious” and needed looking into.  As I said, he was a dumbass for not knowing they would be gunning for him.

Specifically, the official narrative suggests that a Long Island bank noticed an odd pattern of payments made by Spitzer between different accounts. The payments were not enormous sums and the bank is said to have been concerned that a large number of transfers were made so as to fall below the $10,000 reporting threshold. The Los Angeles Times reported that Spitzer asked that his name be taken off the money wires, which reportedly aroused suspicion. The bank submitted a Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) to the IRS. The payments which totaled up to $80,000, looked suspicious, we are told, and were examined on the basis that they might be an effort to money-launder bribes. This was reported to the IRS in Hauppauge, Long Island, which in turn involved the Public Integrity Section in the Department of Justice.Spitzer’s request that his name be removed could have been a legitimate trigger for an SAR. But there are some fair questions as to the claims about bribes. Thanks to his father’s real estate fortune, Spitzer is an extremely wealthy man, and his channeling of payments at the level suggested can hardly be viewed as something that raises legitimate
suspicion. As money laundering goes, $40,000 to $80,000 is peanuts – not the sort of thing that would normally raise an eyebrow. Here it is not the sum involved that triggered suspicion; it is the person who made the payments. Similarly, the suggestion that these payments might have been bribe payments which were being laundered is absurd. In fact they were payments made by Spitzer, not receipts. The facts offered barely meet a plausibility test. Most significantly, there was no basis to suspect bribery – which is what ostensibly launched the entire probe.

        • Chico. . defending Elliot Spitzer?  Really?

  • ackwired

All right!  Now let’s get rid of the rest of the sportscasters homers turned political commentators.

  • Did Current TV simply use Keith to gain attention and higher ratings? They KNEW what they were getting! Keith injects emotion into his commentary, his intelligent and incisive reporting, his humor, and his relationships….all of which makes his program so interesting. You FEEL his pain, you FEEL his anger, and you FEEL his heart-felt sincerity  when he covers a story. He’s never just a talking head! If Keith is absent from Current TV, then I too will be absent from Current TV. Keith is one of the best- hands down; as shown by is coverage of OWS, which was outstanding. I wish him well and hope he is back on the air soon. We need his unique voice.

    • Feelings, nothing more than feelings,
trying to forget those feelings of Olbermann.
Teardrops rolling down on my face,
trying to forget those feelings of Olbermann .

Feelings, for all my life I’ll feel it.
I wish I’ve never watched you, Keith; you’ll never come again.

      Feelings, wo-o-o feelings,
      wo-o-o, feeling of Keith Olbermann.

Feelings, feelings like I’ve never lost you
and feelings like I’ve never have you again on my TV.

Feelings, for all my life I’ll feel it.
I wish I’ve never watched you, Keith; you’ll never come again.

Feelings, feelings like I’ve never lost you
and feelings like I’ve never have you again on my TV.

      Feelings, wo-o-o feelings,
wo-o-o, feelings again on my TV.

      Feelings…(repeat & fade)

Well, you need to apologize to ME, too, for making me remember that horrible, sappy-ass song.

I had almost put it completely out of my mind, after what, almost 40 years? Now it’s a damn earworm. Thanks a lump, David.

        • Hey, wait until he starts mangling Karen Carpenter songs…
