State Department spokeswoman: “We are not always consistent”

From Mondoweiss, a portion of a question and answer session at The State Department on human rights.

Matt Lee, AP Reporter: So the next time Human Rights Watch comes out with a report that’s critical of Israel for its treatment of the Palestinians, I’ll assume that you’re going to be saying the same thing, correct; that you think that the report is credible, it’s based on eyewitness accounts?

VICTORIA NULAND, spokesperson for State Department: As —

QUESTION: And you’re not going to say that it’s politically motivated and should be dismissed?

MS. NULAND: Matt, as you have made clear again and again in this room, we are not always consistent.

Well at least she’s honest…

Newsbusters Hacked?
  • Commander_Chico

Forget about Newsbusters being hacked, is this Wizbang?

I am astounded that someone would point out the hypocritical warmongering of the USG with regard to this Syrian adventure. The USA is in a functional alliance with Al Qaeda in Syria now.

The plan is: get rid of the secular Assad regime first and replace it with a Muslim Bros / Al Qaeda regime in league with our “friends” the Saudis. Who care about the blowback, it will isolate Hezbollah in Lebanon and secure Israel’s northern flank for part (2) of the plan: bombing Iran. That none of this is in the interests of the American people matters not.

When this shit hits the fan, remember Chico told you first.

    • jim_m

If you think that 0bama will do anything to help Israel you are delusional.

      • Commander_Chico

Obama licks the ass of Netanyahu, but Bibi’s a fickle guy and will probably go with Mitt, who will bend over for him on command.

        • Chico, this has to be a joke. You can’t seriously hold the opinion that Obama is bending over backwards for Israel … Flatly ludicrous position to hold.

          • retired.military

Just remember Chico subscribes to the illuminati global conspiracy oligaph crap.

        • jim_m

          Ahistorical fool.

0bama is an outright antisemite. He sat under Rev Wright’s antisemitic teachings for two decades. Our relationship with our chief ally in the middle east is at its lowest point since the Jewish state was founded. One can sense the loathing that 0bama and Netanyahu have for each other when they are together.

          • Commander_Chico

Except that the policies – more aid and arms sales, stopping the Palestinian statehood declaration in the UN, and slavish adherence to Israeli interests in all aspects

Look, the U.S. just was one of only two votes against giving the Church of the Nativity the reported site of Jesus’s birth, World Heritage site protection by the UN.

            The other vote against? Israel.

          • jim_m

Funny how you neglect to point out that they would also have given control of the religious site to the Palestinians. I should not have to remind you how well muslims treat non-islamic religious sites. It would have been converted to a mosque within a year.

          • Commander_Chico

Hey, get a clue, look at a map. Bethlehem is on the West Bank, outside of the borders of Israel, under the control, such as it is allowed, of the Palestinian Authority.

Many Palestinians are Christians, and if anyone is hassling them, it is the fanatic Israeli settlers. Did you see the 60 Minutes report on Israeli treatment of Christians? Here it is:

            Wake up and learn something.

          • jim_m

Really? You rely on 60 minutes as a source of news? That’s rich! It’s an opinion show. You might as well ask me to cite Bill O’Reilly as an objective news source.

Historically, and even within the last week, muslims have demonstrated that once they have control over a non-islamic religious site they will destroy it. Islamic tradition is to obliterate non-islamic sites and to erect islamic sites in their place. There is no reason to believe that the same would not occur here.

          • And every reason to expect that it would.

          • Commander_Chico

Did you watch it? Like in a lot of 60 Minutes stories, the subjects hang themselves.

Bob Simon’s interview with the traitorous Israeli ambassador (he was born in the USA and renounced it) was devastating.

          • jim_m

OK so the arab Christians are leaving because it sucks to live in Palestinian controlled territory? That is clearly the fault of the Jooos!

Like in a lot of leftist propaganda, the guilt is assumed and not proven at all. The fact is that the wall has reduced terrorism by over 90%. They claim that this is somehow religious persecution and it is not. The Ambassador claims that Christian communities elsewhere in Israel are doing OK and the story doesn’t even pause to confirm or deny the statement. I can only assume that it is true because if it were false then it would have been put in.

I also find it hard to believe Bob Simon’s BS reaction when confronted that it is a hatchet job. The Ambassador was right. Simon was doing a hatchet job. If the Ambassador really was the first to complain it is only testimony to the stooges that 60 minutes usually puts on.

Oh, and it’s revealing that you call him a traitor. Anti-Semite much?

          • Commander_Chico

When someone renounces American citizenship to serve a foreign country, yeah they are a traitor, no matter which foreign country.

I think every point you made was refuted by the Palistinian Christian clerics in the 60 Minutes piece and the visuals of the wall.

Here’s another example, from a Catholic priest, about Israeli settler attacks on Christian Arabs in Bethlehem:

In the early morning hours of Monday, 5 September 2011, while travelling in the West Bank between the Palestinian villages of Al-Lubban and Turmos Aya and near the Israeli settlements of Ofarim and Bet Ariye along the Nablus-Ramallah, Dr. Adwan Adwan, a faculty member in the Arabic Department at Bethlehem University, was the victim of a violent attack by some 20 Israeli settlers who threw rocks in his face, injuring his head, shoulder, and stomach. His car was blocked by a pile of burning tires when he quickly came under what he said felt like a well-orchestrated ambush. Dr. Adwan eventually was able to speed away from the scene and get himself to a hospital for treatment. “I felt lucky to escape with my life,” he says.
On the same day and further along the same road, near the settlement of Shiloh in the Palestinian Territories, Miss Yara Odeh, a Bethlehem University masters degree student, was the victim of a violent attack by some Israeli settlers. Yara found herself stuck in what appeared to be a traffic jam caused by Israeli settlers pelting cars with rocks. With the road blocked, she escaped from her car through the passenger door and ran toward nearby Israeli soldiers, calling for help. She reports being refused help and being told to return to her car. “The settlers seemed not so much interested in damaging the car as they were in harming me,” she says of the incident.
The Bethlehem University administration is extremely disturbed by these attacks on members of the academic community. . . .

As reported in the media and by the United Nations, there appears to be an increase in the number of Palestinians who are being attacked by groups of Israeli settlers. The United Nations and other international human rights and aid organizations report that more than 500,000 Israeli settlers, many of whom are armed, occupy the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
Please continue to keep us in your prayers. Blessings to you,
Brother Jack Curran, FSC, PhDVice President for Development

          • jim_m

A traitor is not someone who emigrates somewhere else dumbass. No country in the world (except maybe communist countries) has held that definition like you do.

I sincerely doubt you would say that if a Hispanic person returned to Mexico where the rest of their family lived even though they were born in the US and a US citizen that you would call them a traitor.

It seems that you twist this definition to suit your antisemitic hate. Or it is just the totalitarian leftist in you that defines traitor to be the same as an emigre?

          • Commander_Chico

Emigrating somewhere is not the same as serving the foreign state. Under US law, a person is stripped of their citizenship for such an act. Oren has a top security clearance from Israel, I’m sure. That means that he would sell the interests of the USA out in a heartbeat – like Jonathan Pollard.

But let’s get back to the main subject. Why does the USA care who runs Syria? What interest of the American people is implicated? Why are we supporting Al Qaeda and the Muslim Bros in taking over Syria?

          • jim_m

There is also a difference between emigrating and subsequently serving in a foreign government, and being a spy. I suppose the nuance between the two positions is too subtle for you to grasp.

Again it is just your antisemitism. You wouldn’t say this of a Hispanic or a European. Do you also say this of US citizens who work as support staff in foreign consulates here?

Your position is rife with hypocrisy and prejudice, but this is nothing new.

          • Commander_Chico

US citizens who work in foreign embassies might also work for the USA as sources. They are also not given security clearances by the foreign government. If not doing work for the USA, they would have problems getting a US security clearance later on.

So if Oren is working for the CIA, he’s not a traitor. Otherwise he has turned his back on us.

As for your antisemitism canard, you wrote the most antisemitic thing I’ve read in awhile – that Jews in the USA are happy to submit to the Christian nation that is the USA, despite their “very different culture.” That was not only antisemitic, it was just plain weird.

          • jim_m

I never used the word submit you liar. You are deliberately misquoting me. I said this:

Funny how I have never met a Jew who objected to the fact that
Christians founded this country or who objected to the fact that they had to live in a culture that was very different from their own.

You are a liar and you did it deliberately. Dishonesty won’t get you anywhere, It’s too easy to go back and find out what was posted. That thread was about how people understood that the US had a Christian culture and idiots like yourself were saying that Christianity was something that was imposed upon the culture after the founding.

You lost the argument on that thread too.

          • Commander_Chico

What the heck is “very different” about the culture of the Jews? I never saw it that way.

          • Jwb10001

So by Chico’s definition is I move to canada to work in their post office I’m a traitor… Didn’t he recently inform us of his intention to leave the country?

          • Commander_Chico

Especially if you work in the Canadian post office.

          • It keeps teasing us with the prospect of being rid of it, but never follows through.

          • jim_m

And when are you going to square your comment on the Entebbe thread? Serving a foreign government makes you a traitor? Then Netanyahu wasn’t a hero, he was a traitor. You can’t have it both ways/ (but I suspect that you will try)

          • Its partially the nascent leftist in him that has to find reasons to denegrate anyone who is on the side of western civilization and prop up anyone, no matter how vile, who is not.

          • Its the JOOOS! The JOOOS!!!!

          • 914

            60 Minute’s ?

          • Jwb10001

they got their information from a woman named Lucy Rameriz somewhere it Texas, it’s fake but accurate.

  • GarandFan

“Matt, as you have made clear again and again in this room, we are not always consistent.”

Yeah, tell that to the Poles and Czechs.

    • jim_m

      we are not always consistent.”

I have to disagree. We are very consistent at insulting what are swiftly becoming our former allies.
