His Name Was Neil Armstrong

I didn’t originally intend to post about the passing of Neil Armstrong.  But it would seem many just don’t remember what he accomplished or the importance of the symbolism.  As the idiocy mounts, I feel compelled to enter the fray.

First up we have the geniuses at NBC who couldn’t even bother to get his name right at first.

I’m sure to the “journalists” at NBC that Young er Armstrong is just some old guy who did something scientific or something.  What, he died?  Oh, I guess we should write something about that before getting back to campaigning for Obama.  Speaking of Obama, here’s the picture he decided to post on his Tumblr account recognizing Armstrong.

The text is nice for sure.  But the best picture they could come up with was one of Obama staring at a tiny tiny moon.  Really?  How about an actual picture of Armstrong?  Or I don’t know the moon.  Or something like this?

As usual the comic xkcd managers to point out the failings of today’s society with the following comic:

The alt text is actually more interesting and relevant.

The universe is probably littered with the one-planet graves of cultures which made the sensible economic decision that there’s no good reason to go into space – each discovered, studied and remembered by the ones who made the irrational decision.

His name was Neil Armstrong.  He took one of the first steps in the most important journey this sorry species is every going to take.  I don’t care if the American government has the foresight to continue on that journey or the American people via private enterprise.  I just ask that people get out of the way and let the Neil-Armstrongs-to-be do what needs to be done.

Of course the real accomplishment of Neil Armstrong was not being the first man to walk on the moon. It was that he inspired obama. What greater purpose could anyone’s life have but to inspire such a brilliant and benevolent leader? /sarcasm

The Neil Young confusion was inexcusable. I am sure that Armstrong had a better singing voice.

Wait a minute! Ya mean ya just want a pic of a footprint? How much more inspiring to see a picture (silhouette) of The Chosen One staring upwards!

    PS
I’m sure Barry didn’t know who Neil Armstrong was.

I’m sure that he is trying to figure out how Armstrong hosted the first Iftar dinner on the moon.

Growing up Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were my heroes.. his passing was like a punch to the gut.

To add to the schmuck factor, the picture the Obama camp put out there was taken back in April, unrelated to Armstrong.

Neil Armstrong goes on the Great Voyage, and Barry marks it by posting a picture… OF HIMSELF????

Holy f*cking sh*t, is this a JOKE??? Is he really that f*cking narssisitic???? Un-be-f*cking-lievable.

I hope that somebody can tell me that this is photoshopped or from The Onion or something, because I really didn’t think that I could detest Barry any more than I already did. Jebus… What a truly despicable excuse for a human being he is.

What can one say about the passing of Neil Armstrong? He and the other astronauts (and cosmonauts) rank with Marco Polo, Columbus, Magellan, and all the other great explorers who pushed back the boundaries of the world, usually at great – often fatal – risk to themselves. For contemporary Americans to not instantly recognize his name is a testament to how lousy our education system is, and how shallow many American minds are.
