MSNBC Is Biased, Sky Is Blue

Sometimes the story just writes itself.  From the Daily Caller:

One of the left’s favorite attacks on the Republican Party is that it is the party of old white people, devoid of diversity and probably racist.

If you were watching MSNBC’s coverage of the Republican National Convention in Tampa on Tuesday night, you might believe those assertions, since missing from the coverage was nearly every ethnic minority that spoke during Tuesday’s festivities.

In lieu of airing speeches from former Democratic Rep. Artur Davis, a black American; Mia Love, a black candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives from Utah; and Texas senatorial hopeful Ted Cruz, a Latino American, MSNBC opted to show commentary anchored by Rachel Maddow from Rev. Al Sharpton, Ed Schultz, Chris Matthews, Chris Hayes and Steve Schmidt.

I am not sure what there is to say really.  I’m not shocked or surprised–media bias barely even registers anymore.  I post this, I suppose, only to let it be know to the widest audience possible.  So to those readers that tweet and link, thank you.  I don’t ask for this out of vanity.  The only way to counter the “mainstream” media is to flood alternate media sources with the truth.  While many of my friends no longer watch the news or buy a paper, far too many people still do.

Update: Glenn Reynolds has picked up on the coverage angle.

Is NBC racist? Looks that way. I mean, they’re airbrushing out the black people!

The network of Chris Matthews, Ed Schultz and Rachel Maddow was too busy building their version of rich, white, angry, mean Republicans to allow the real Republican leaders to speak directly to their viewers. Fortunately, the folks who put up with their nonsense (MSNBC viewers) are becoming fewer and fewer.

Fox is “fair and balanced”? Give me a break…..

      • littlegerman

it is easieir to find a differing opinion on Fox than MSNBC (while niether one is perfectly fair one is much closer to the concept of “fair” than the other)

  • Be assured when the DemocRAT convention starts next week, Matthews et al will be swooning over their speakers.

    • UOG

Chris’s tingles have been fewer and coming far less frequently lately. The Democrat Convention is his last hope. Go with a live-feed instead, Stan and have the satisfaction of knowing you just cut his viewership to single numbers.

      • I studiously avoid PMSNBC. I don’t even have it in my channel rotation

        • razorclams

That’s why we don’t have Fox

RepubliCons should know about selling snake oil.

      • littlegerman

yeah – they have had to put up with the snakes (and snake oil salesman) since the beginning of the democratic party – so they should be use to it by now

  • Hank_M

So the network that wants to promote the idea that Repubs hate minorities cut or talked over every speech made by a minority?

I wonder if Sharpton is smart enough to know he’s the MSNBC token.

    • He knows, and he likes it that way.

    • He knows where his paychecks and power come from – and it’s not from saying “You know, things are a hell of a lot better than when I was a kid, and we’re a lot more equal now.”

Something else – all the talk about dog whistles? Saw an interesting comment – “If you’re hearing dog whistles – that means YOU are the dog they’re whistling for.”

  • GarandFan

Ya mean the “news” network that has a ‘vested interest in the success of this administration’ is promoting it’s own agenda? I’m SHOCKED! SHOCKED!, I tell you!

  • Commander_Chico_Cognoscente

Yes, it is biased. Matthews’s hatred of Romney is so obvious that Rachel Maddow has to pull him back.

But it’s OK that it’s biased, that’s freedom. There is Matthews and there is Hannity on the other end.

    • jim_m

It would really be OK if it were biased and they admitted so. Instead they are biased and claim a fraudulent mantle of objectivity. Hannity is honest about his bias. there is no comparison between the two.

      • Commander_Chico_Cognoscente

Did Matthews ever claim to be an unbiased reporter, or Hannity ever say “I am biased”? I missed that. Just a couple of cable news talking heads, like all of the rest, both left and right.

        • What a disingenuous answer, Chico. Really weak.

          • Commander_Chico_Cognoscente

I don’t see the difference between Matthews’s show and Hannity’s show – both are interview and opinion shows.

          • EricSteel

Actually Chico, there is a difference. Hannity admits that he is a Conservative commentator. From his bio on Fox News “He is one of the most prominent and influential conservative voices in the country and his program offers a mix of news, commentary, interviews and branded segments…”
Chris Matthews on the other hand claims to be a journalist with the implication of objectivity. From his bio on MSNBC, “My main ambition as a journalist is to cut through the public relations and find the truth in what politicians are saying and doing.”

          • jim_m

          • Commander_Chico_Cognoscente

Oh well, what are you going to do, sue Matthews?

          • EricSteel

Nope. I don’t have to do a thing. Freemarkets are handling it. Look at the ratings of Hannity vs. Hardball.
The whole point is that the Left has spent the last 50 years using the race card as their ultimate debate trump card because they make it irrefutable using terms like dog whistles, and “what they are really saying”. They have also done a masterful job of rewriting history to blank out the Democratic party’s role in slavery, Jim Crow and segregation.
But the race card is maxed out. Lefties need to realize it because they look increasingly impotent and desperate using it.

          • If you’re hearing dog whistles – you’re the dog they’re whistling for.

          • So you were full of it here, knew you were full of it, and when it was pointed out that you were full of it your response was “oh well?”

          • razorclams

Hannity is nothing more than a propaganda minister for the Republican party

          • razorclams

Not really Ryan. Chico is correct.

    • So the purported reporter on one side is compared to the admitted opinion guy on the other? Chico, you aren’t that dumb, are you? Tell me, which Fox news show is hannity a news anchor for?

    • Guest

Did Matthews ever claim to be an unbiased reporter, or Hannity ever say “I am biased”? I missed that. Just a couple of cable news talking heads, like all of the rest, both left and right.

  • jim_m

It’s a lovely example of the racism of the left. Conservative minorities are nonpersons to be ignored and shunned as inauthentic race traitors. Conservative minorities distract from the leftist narrative that all conservatives are racists. The abundant evidence to the contrary must therefore be hidden from the masses.

Advancement on race relations must be impeded at all costs because if racial harmony were allowed to develop it would negate the ability of the left to raise the spectre of the Klan (which they created) hunting down and murdering minorities.

The left talks a good game about racism, but they are deeply invested in ensuring that racism never goes away. They are not about eliminating racism, but about preserving and fostering racism. They earn their livings on it, they gain political office by it.

    • jim_m

One does not have to rely just on MSNBC to see the racism of the left. You can go to The Nation and read how they see minorities as tokens not as real people.

Or you could just go to Wikipedia and see how the left has edited Mia Love’s page.

This blog is really going down hill. Time was, there was actual discussion about the actual issues. Now all the discussion seems to be about somebody else’s coverage of the actual news. This post is about what the someone said about someone else’s coverage of the actual news.

There’s a convention going on and you’re all talking about meta-news and meta-meta-news.

    • jim_m

The commentary is about the manifest racism of the left that ignores the speeches of minorities and then pretends hat those speeches never happened.

I thought you lefties wanted a dialogue on race. I suppose your idea of dialogue is shouting “RAAAAACIST!!!!” at conservatives until they shut up.

    • DanKaripides

You are going to need to try harder, sir.

I did post about an actual issue–blatant media bias. If you’ll check my posting history, I’ve been posting about this issue for years.

I posted about someone else’s coverage of MSNBC because you couldn’t get me to watch that “network” with a hot poker and stun gun.

      • razorclams

too bad, not open minded are you?

MSNBC’s bias coverage replacing the bulk of minority and women RNC speakers with liberal attacks and commercials was offensive and perhaps the lowest thing I’ve ever seen in news coverage. No wonder Fox News is beating all of their competition in the ratings.

It’s time to consider boycotting MSNBC advertisers.

Republicans do have their token “colored folks” don’t they.

    • littlegerman

how arrogant to believe that people think like you – we (as informed Republican voters) do not see people as base and useless except for votes (as is apparent by you blatantly racist comment of ” ‘colored folk’ “) – the republican party (if you bothered to actually look at the issues) is the party of acceptance (the ideals of capitalism are also of acceptance) based on worth as a person not worth as a member of a minority
