Violent Anti-American Protests Now Occurring In 21 Countries

President Obama’s Middle East foreign policy (what ever that actually is) is imploding today as violent anti-American protests are now occurring in 21 countries in the Middle East, Africa, India, Southeast Asia, and Europe.

So what does the administration say? White House spokesman Jay Carney said this with a straight face today:

“This is a fairly volatile situation, and it is in response not to U.S. policy, not to, obviously, the administration, not to the American people. It is in response to a video–a film–that we have judged to be reprehensible and disgusting. That in no way justifies any violent reaction to it. But this is not a case of protests directed at the United States, writ large, or at U.S. policy. This is in response to a video that is offensive and–to Muslims.”

Carney repeated this variations of this theme at least 10 more times through the press conference. See Jake Tapper’s extended question for a taste of how many times Carney keeps coming back to the video.

As Commentary notes:

Even if the video fueled the protests, how did a low-budget Youtube film that nobody had heard of before last week get dubbed into Arabic and distributed around Muslim countries? The answer is fanatical Islamist leaders who used the film to incite outrage on the anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

And if you believe the video was the sole drive behind the protests, then why were U.S. flags replaced with the flags of al-Qaeda? Why were terrorists groups reportedly involved in organizing the protests weeks in advance — before the film even came to light?

The Obama administration does not want to talk about terrorism, because it wants to pretend it defeated terrorism by killing Osama bin Laden. They don’t want to mention al-Qaeda, unless of course it’s in the context of a drone our military dropped on one of its leaders. But as the embassy attacks illustrate, the Islamic terror threat has not disappeared. It hasn’t been vanquished by the lofty speeches of a Nobel Peace Prize-winning president, or eradicated by his policy of covert assassinations. The fact that the White House hasn’t seemed to grasp this is what made today’s briefing so tone-deaf, and so startling.

Obama doubled down on the Arab spring in Egypt and Libya, so they own the current mess as they had a nominal hand in the change in leadership in the region. Sorry Obama fans there’s not “it’s all Bush’s fault” on this one – your Nobel Peace Prize winning, “kill list” maintainer owns this mess. To fix it he might have to take a daily intel briefing or *gasp* have to skip a fundraiser or two…

The dems have always wanted the US to be put in a position of weakness. The destruction of US military power and national security has been their top priority. obama has finally achieved that for them. What they don’t realize is that obama has lead us directly into a massive war.

So chico: is this the war you have been claiming that Israel is leading us into? How are you going to blame all this violence on the Jooos? You were all about how the video was made by a Jooo under the instruction of the Israeli government. Now that it turns out that he’s a coptic Christian you have gone a bit mute on that subject. Please regale us with your tails of anti-Semitic conspiracy theories. It’s late and we need a goodnight story.

The origins of the film and how it was funded and publicized are still in the shadows.

We shall see if Israel bombs Iran in the next three weeks.

Cool. Commander Goebbels is playing the Jewish conspiracy card. There’s a stunner.

Wow! Your willful ignorance and prejudice is just breathtaking.

Not really. It’s actually rather expected. Fits the pattern, after all.

          • jim_m

            Fits the pattern for sure.

Does it matter who funded it, filmed it, or thought it up?

Lets say the Mossad thought it up, funded it and posted it. Does that give the Muslims the right to do what they are doing? Does that justify murder? Attacking American soil? or even attacking Israel?

I dont see Obama doing anything about the antichristian clps on youtube. That tells you that all his talk about finding things offensive is a bunch of political horseshit.

        • http://www.rustedsky.net JLawson

No, it doesn’t give them the right. That doesn’t mean they’re not going to take it, however.

It’s not like anyone’s going to call them on it on civility grounds, after all.

Yeah,It’s just that mean, old movie .
Remember those movies that led to the other countless incidents of Islamic terrorism?
I think 9/11 was brought on by “Plan 9 from Outer Space”.

obama gets his fascist way: LA County Sheriff detains filmmaker for questioning.

Funny how those anti-movie protesters aren’t setting movie theaters on fire.

Why havent they found the antichristian clips on youtube to be reprehensible and disgusting??

    • jim_m

Funny isn’t it, that the left can muster all sort of outrage against the excesses of the inquisition hundreds of years ago, but they seem to have the greatest difficulty in expressing even mild concern over the bloodthirstiness of the islamic radicals.

The left is outraged by the Catholic church’s stand against gay marriage but muslims can murder people for merely being suspected of being gay and they say nary a word.

Excuse me if I find the left entirely without credibility or any redeeming moral qualities.

  • herddog505

Gosh, I’m glad that Jay Carney was here to tell me why people in nearly two dozen countries are rioting, that it’s because of a movie.

Otherwise, I would have blamed Bush. And maybe the Crusades.
