BREAKING: DNI Takes Fall for Administration Lying About 9/11 Two

Nothing like a Friday night late to get some ‘truth’ in Washington.

The Good News: The Whitehouse has finally officially admitted the obvious that Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans died in a planned terrorist attack on the anniversary of 9/11.

The Bad News: The WH picked the Office of the Director of National Intelligence to take the fall for him lying to the American public for the last two and a half weeks.

Intelligence office says it got Libya attack wrong, not White House

WASHINGTON — Extremists from groups linked to al Qaida struck the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, in a “deliberate and organized terrorist attack,” the top U.S. intelligence agency said Friday, as it took responsibility for the Obama administration’s initial claims that the deadly assault grew from a spontaneous protest against an anti-Islam video. The unusual statement from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence appeared to have two goals: updating the public on the latest findings of the investigation into the assault, and shielding the White House from a political backlash over its original accounts.

“In the immediate aftermath (of the assault), there was information that led us to assess that the attack began spontaneously following protests earlier that day at our embassy in Cairo,” spokesman Sean Turner said in the statement. “We provided that initial assessment to executive branch officials and members of Congress, who used that information to discuss the attack publicly.”

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence, which coordinates and sets policies for the 16 other U.S. intelligence agencies, is led by retired Air Force Gen. James Clapper, who was appointed by President Barack Obama in August 2010. …

In his statement, Turner said that U.S. intelligence agencies’ understanding of what happened in Benghazi, Libya’s second largest city, has evolved as they’ve collected and analyzed information on the incident. “As we learned more about the attack, we revised our initial assessment to reflect new information indicating that it was a deliberate and organized terrorist attack carried out by extremists,” he said.

Can I get a show of hands who believes this? Anyone? Anyone? Beuller?
OK Let me throw out the first few questions any reporter with any reasonable understanding of the situation should be asking. In random order off the top of my head:
  1. Which members of Congress were briefed by DNI? – These briefings are bipartisan. Which Republican got this briefing. Because I have not heard a single Republican who said this to the media.
  2. When was this supposed briefing? – Again when did the Republicans learn this?
  3. When did the DNI come to the conclusion this was a pre-planned terrorist attack? – 48 hours ago Obama was still prattling  on an imaginary video connection, mentioning it 7 times in his UN speech. Did they just figure this out today?
  4. When is James Clapper resigning? – You don’t make a mistake this big and keep your post. If he wants to take the fall for this, let him take the fall.
  5. When will Susan Rice be resigning? -  It’s obvious now she was just making stuff up. Several pundits have noted her story got more embellished as she retold it 5 times. She was put out there because she was disposable. Time to toss her out.
  6. Why did Obama skip all his intelligence briefings the week before 9/11?  – It’s not like we don’t know that day is significant to our enemies.  (Note to media: No, “but I read it on my iPad” is not an acceptable answer to this question. What was he doing the very hours he should have been attending his briefings.
  7. Did we have any prior warnings the consulate was in danger? If so when? Why did we ignore them?
  8. A special question that only Tapper (Or Eli Lake) would have the guts to ask: If we did have warnings, were any of them in the PDBs the President skipped? — For the rest of you in the media, that’s the biggest question you’ll ever ask in your career. So be sure to sit on your hands like good little lackeys and never ask it.
I came up with those as fast as I could type. I’m sure with 10 minutes of thought I could come up with a few hundred more.  Got any you’d like answers to? Hit me in the comments if I missed any obvious ones.

So Jim Clapper was appointed by Pres. Obama. The buck stops where?

    • jim_m

That was Harry Truman. This is obama. The sign on his desk says, “The bus stops here” So he can throw people under it as he tries to escape blame for his incompetence.

      • http://www.wizbangblog.com David Robertson

ROTFL That’s a good one, Jim.

        • jim_m

          Thanks

          • jim_m

LOL. What kind of douchebag votes down someone saying “Thanks”?

          • Carl

I liked it a week or so ago when a leftie posted several paragraphs quoting Mitt Romney verbatim and it was voted down 1|7.

That cracked me up, watching the Obama haters display their hatred by voting down MITT ROMNEY’S quotes just because a leftie posted them.

Mindless Tea Party drone! Must Stop Black Man! Vote down liberal! Ugh!

          • Jwb10001

oh there’s a surprise a moron liberal playing the race card…..

          • Carl

Ugh! Vote Down liberal! Ugh! snort!

          • jim_m

As Jwb pointed out. It was for the gratuitous racist remark.

          • Jwb10001

            Did Carl answer your question?

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_TNO55UWU6MEXAEUTDZNCCLSJFU Olivia

Oh, good one. I was a little girl when Truman came in to office. Give ‘em Hell Harry would be disgusted with today’s Democrat Party.

    • http://www.wizbangblog.com David Robertson

Not with President Obama. That’s for sure. He won’t accept it.

  • Vagabond661

Where did Rice get the story about the video being the cause? Why did the WH jump in with both feet?

  • jim_m

Can I get a show of hands who believes this?

Chico, Bruce, Ackwired, Hugh, Tomincali, Carl, Steve… They will all believe whatever obama tells them.

    • KenWD

      Larry, Curly, Moe, any others?

    • Brucehenry

There’s a good article over at Outside the Beltway this morning, entitled “Is ‘Benghazigate’ Hurting Obama?”. The last few sentences of the article and the first couple of comments pretty much sum up my view of this thing.

But keep characterizing everyone who ISN’T a paranoid nutbar as sheep, Jim. It does you credit.

      • jim_m

It would do you credit to provide a link for your citation.

        • jim_m

Having tracked down the link for you, the last few sentences say essentially, who cares? That even if obama is supremely incompetent people do not care about foreign policy and Mitt Romney’s response was not done well.

Now the events demonstrate that Romney’s criticism of the obama admin for not robustly defending freedom in the USA is spot on. obama sought to deflect from his own culpability by directing blame on the movie producer (and continues to do so). The complicit media was more than happy to support and parrot this bogus meme.

Now that the truth has come out we see that obama deliberately lied to the American public and that the media covered or him (shocker!). Romney now leads polls asking which candidate do you trust to run foreign policy, This is hurting obama. It isn’t as significant as other domestic issues, but it adds up. The lefty denials are just attempts at whistling past the grave yard.

          • Brucehenry

I’d love to see you in the comments section at OTB, Jim, spouting the same stuff you spout here. Please. I dare you.

          • jim_m

Why would I want to post on a blog where the typical comment is along the lines of “Gee republicans are stoopid. I can’t wait until they all die.” ? Terribly articulate stuff there. I suppose you are a regular.

          • Brucehenry

That’s not the case, Jim, and you and I both know it.

But even if it was, that’s rich coming from a commenter whose every comment is basically “‘The left’ is stoopid (or evil or treasonous) and I can’t wait until they all die.”

          • jim_m

I will admit the evil part. And I think that ignorant is different from stupid. But I am not wishing for leftists to die. I am just waiting with anticipation for you to abort enough of your next generation that you are no longer a significant force demographically.

          • Brucehenry

Very clever and witty, Jim, but it’s just a clever and witty way to say, “I’m too afraid of embarrassing myself to comment on a Big Boy blog.”

OTB’s writers are conservative but not nutjob Republicans who take a lot of heat from their mostly liberal comment section. Most of the liberals there (many of whom have commented here in the past) are quite clever and articulate themselves. I doubt you’d last 5 minutes there with your “Obama said capitalism has never worked” or “Liberals are today’s fascists” or some of the other nonsense you regularly espouse here.

Again, I dare you to try it.

BTW, our own long-lost, wayward Jay Tea can be found in their comment section. posting comments under the name “Jenos Idanian.”

          • jim_m

As I said and you have just confirmed: it is a lefty fever swamp.

The first 5 or so comments that I looked at on the thread you referred to were all along the lines of how stupid conservatives were and one said explicitly that he wished that all conservatives would just die.

You think that it would be hard to survive amongst such mental midgets? I suppose if by surviving you mean tolerating the offensively inane commentary and the ideological blindness that makes left wing morons assume that they are the pinnacle of human intellect, then yes.

          • Brucehenry

What the hell are you talking about? “The first 5 comments I looked at..” were those the first 5 comments on the thread? Because the first 10 or 15 comments on the thread say NOTHING like that. Neither do the next 10 or 15.

Don’t just make shit up, Jim. I realize no one here is going to check up on you, but don’t you feel any shame just flat-out lying like this?

Again, I dare ya. Pick any thread over there and jump right in with your Obama’s-a-commie-Frank-Marshall-Davis-Ayers-Wright baloney and see what happens.

Now of course some commenters are better than others, just as JLawson and Herddog over here, for example, are head-and-shoulders above, say, 914, or Evil Otto. But you should try going head to head with say, Ron Beasley, Michael Reynolds, or john personna over at OTB. I really triple-dog-dare ya.

      • That_Paul

Outsidethebestway was for years my favorite blog… now they just regurgitate lefty talking points and pretend they said something interesting. Joyner used to be one of the best minds in the blogosphere now he just phones in the cliches. — When they lied -and I do mean lied- about a Paul Ryan quote I lost all respect for them.

        • http://www.traveLightgame.com/ ljcarolyne

          Yep!

    • Carl

      ABR – Anyone but Romney!

      • http://www.traveLightgame.com/ ljcarolyne

ROMNEY, sure didn’t – that was funny. I think Obama detached his RED PHONE that night, to get some ZZZZZZZZZ. Sununu Says Obama Is ‘Lazy and Detached’ translation (doesn’t give a damn) IMO.

  • LiberalNightmare

    B+

  • GarandFan

What a load of horse shit! Within 24 hours the SIGINT folks damned well knew it had been pre-planned and even had some names. Yet the farce continued.

Hope Clapper likes falling on his sword for The Obamassiah.

  • Commander_Chico_Cognoscente

I’d be happy to see the obnoxious Susan Rice resign.

This is a perfect defense, though: unless people demand declassification of the relevant reports.

    • That_Paul

WOW you hit the mark… “unless people demand declassification of the relevant reports.”

If this can be proven a lie to cover Obamabi (and I think even you would admit that) –but if it can be proven– the whole thing explodes.

      • Commander_Chico_Cognoscente

I do not see why they should not be declassified, unless the sources and methods of collection would be compromised.

        • jim_m

Given the obama admin, which demands that federal contractors delay layoffs until after the election (with the implication that they will not be contractors in the future if they do not), it is easy to believe that these documents will remain classified for the sole reason that they would make him look bad and would cost him votes.

          • Commander_Chico_Cognoscente

That is the reason why many things are classified, to prevent embarrassment to the government. Of course, that is not a new thing limited to this administration.

  • http://www.traveLightgame.com/ ljcarolyne

We are talking about the Director of National Intelligence, not the Dallas Nursing Institute, RIGHT? Six of one half a dozen of the other, huh? Like Peter King, Rep., NY said Rice knew, and just high up do we want to go to find out who ALL knew? Where the buck stops is where to begin, ALL A COVER UP = IMPEACH THE USURPER! Obama created the vaccum for this to happen, OBAMA IS TO BLAME!

    • Commander_Chico_Cognoscente

As much as I loathe Susan Rice, Peter King is not a guy I would listen to.

King should have been charged with supporting IRA terrorism in the UK. I spent a lot of time in London during the IRA bombing campaign, while he was doing fundraisers for the IRA in NY. It sucked, but I give credit to the Brits for not losing their minds with the Irish the way King has over Muslims.
