“Innocence Of Muslims” Director Arrested, Still No FBI Agents In Benghazi

Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, the filmmaker behind the controversial “Innocence of Muslims” trailer is in custody tonight. From The Hollywood Reporter:

Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, the 55-year-old filmmaker who sparked violence worldwide after releasing portions of his anti-Islamic film Innocence of Muslims online, has been jailed for violating terms of his parole, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Nakoula, who was credited as Sam Bacile in the production notes, appeared in Los Angeles federal court Thursday afternoon, where Judge Suzanne H. Segal cited a “lengthy pattern of deception,” which included lying to parole officials.

“The court has a lack of trust in the defendant at this time,” Segal said, adding that Nakoula posed “some danger to the community.”

Nakoula may be a flight risk, but he hardly seems like a danger to the community.

Meanwhile 15 days after terrorists assassinated U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens in Benghazi, Libya the FBI has yet to visit the scene of the crime.

Clearly we’ve got our priorities backwards here…

Can’t do the time, don’t do the crime. Don’t seek publicity for your parole violations.

The vengeance for the Benghazi killings will not take the form of conventional law enforcement. There are other agencies besides the FBI.

    • Maybe, if obama hasn’t leaked information and blown their cover.

    • jim_m

If he had produced this very same movie under Bush and Bush had tried this you would be screaming about the destruction of constitutional rights. You’re a worthless hypocrite.

  • Bird666

You’re a dipshit and a coward, like the president. Any attorney could beat this saying someone else “used the Internet” to put the video up. But you know as we’ll as I this is show to appease the stupid fucking Muslims. President Yellow Stain. Obama is a national disgrace.

    • Commander_Chico_Cognoscente

He had a Facebook account and used it. That is a parole violation.

I hope the Feds squeeze him to find out who was behind this shady black psyop.

      • cirby

It’s only a parole violation if he didn’t get permission from his parole officer first. If that were true, they would have kept him in custody the first time they brought him in.

When you see comments like “lengthy pattern of deception,” what prosecutors really mean is “we don’t have anything concrete to nail him with, so we’re going to pile up a lot of stuff that’s not really criminal and hope it sticks.”

Of course, the sad part is that, even after admitting that the attacks were really terrorist operations and had nothing to do with the film, they’re still going to stick it to this guy no matter what… even though he didn’t do anything worse than the South Park guys pull off on a weekly basis, on national TV.

        • Commander_Chico_Cognoscente

He was not supposed to be using the internet. Only a judge can change conditions of parole.

Funny how “personal responsibility” goes out the window with so-called “conservatives” and a small time grifter and drug dealer becomes a hero when he stirs up trouble for the USA.

          • Funny how your first amendment rights go out the window when so called “liberals” and an admitted big time drunk and drug user are offended by the expression thereof.

          • cirby

            LA Times:

“Dugdale said none of the violations Nakoula is accused of relate to use of the Internet, even though his probation terms specify he is not permitted to possess or use a device with access to the Internet without permission from his probation officer.”

          • Commander_Chico_Cognoscente

OK, so he has other probation violations. You know, he gets a hearing in open court.

          • 914

No.. Under your’s and Obama’s snake like system. He gets kidnapped in the middle of the night like Elian Gonzales. Or gets torched like David Koresh and the other innocents that just happened to be there!

BTW? When is Holder going to have a hearing for murdering U.S. and Mexican citizens>? Hmmmm? you know, real crime’s.. With no ficticious film involved..

          • 914

What the hell are you babbling about? Personal responsibility and so called conservatives? Get your brain recharged, rewired or stay off the internet yourself makeshift puppet.

          • Jwb10001

well OWS are supposed to get permits but you support them breaking the law why is this any different, oh I nevermind I know why

      • How could a court impose that restriction? Sounds like a violation of his first amendment rights to me.

        • Commander_Chico_Cognoscente

Hello? Parole is a conditional release from prison on conditions. Obviously he would not be able to use the internet in prison.

I don’t know if you know this, but people in prison and convicted felons lose some rights. For example, a convicted felon loses his 2nd Amendment rights.

What does bank fraud have to do with spoofing a comical trailer?

          • herddog505

I agree. Whether or not the judge should have made such a condition is beside the point: if it is a condition of parole and the guy violated that condition, then back to jail with him.

          • jim_m

It would be interesting to see what the evidence is that he violated his parole. To do so it would have to be shown that he posted the video himself. There were other interested parties who may have posted the video. It seems that the court is making an assumption without proof in this case.

          • Vagabond661

            Can a parolee vote?

  • 914

“The court has a lack of trust in the defendant at this time,” Segal said, adding that Nakoula posed “some danger to the community.”

The only danger he poses is to Obama’s re-election chances..

  • 1. What would be the point of FBI agents going to Benghazi? Aren’t the people responsible for the Benghazi killings already in the custody of Benghazi authorities?

    2. As for Nakoula:

A federal prosecutor said Nakoula had eight probation violations, including lying to his probation officers and using aliases.

A convicted felon with probation violations is a convicted felon with probation violations no matter who the POTUS is.

    • 914

Are probation violations convictions? Do you not need some proof? Could this not possibly be wide open for blackmailing and other abuse by a not so pure parole officer?

      • jim_m

To be fair, he can be detained pending a probation hearing. This would not be so concerning if the obama admin had not tried to blame him for their own incompetence.

Now that we see that obama knew that al qaida was planning an attack, that the Benghazi consulate was not protected up to the proper standard and that the admin knew within a couple of hours that this was a coordinated attack and had nothing to do with the movie; we see that obama tried to pin responsibility on an innocent person (at least innocent of this).

How can anyone defend a government that would want to blame innocent civilians for its own mistakes? This is still being done even though the truth has leaked out. The scapegoating of civilians for the government’s failures is a dangerous and frightening development.

        • Carl

How can anyone defend the administration from made up bullshit?

We don’t. Like the majority of America — we just ignore it. Who cares what BS a bunch of right wing tea party nutcakes dream up? Just other right wing American nutcakes.

          • jim_m

The only people keeping birtherism alive are the dems. They are desperate for an issue. Hey! You want an issue? How about the crappy economy? Or how about his inability o get a single dem vote for his budgets?

While it is nice f you to offer up birtherism as an issue, that on belongs solely to the left today. Even the radical right has dropped it. Perhaps you want o keep talking about it because your candidate s such a catastrophe as a leader.

          • Carl

            Compared to what?

Mitt doesn’t have a plan. Nobody on this blog supports him. Yes, they hate Obama – but try to find ONE article supporting Romney – you won’t find it.

Romney’s positions are BS. He claims he can reduce tax rates 20% for the rich and that it’s revenue neutral.

            It’s Bullshit.

You got nothing. You’ve got a candidate most right wing bloggers won’t even mention by name.

You counted on the hatred YOU have for Obama to spread and be universal.

Guess what? Anyone But Obama has failed. What a monumentally stupid way to run a campaign, loser.

          • Carl

And let’s not forget – that Obama is a foreign exchange student from Kenya who never actually attended Columbia… cause right wing wacknuts said so!

He’s hiding something boyeez! Damn black muslim communists!

          • jim_m

Actually, the only compelling thing with the whole Columbia issue is that obama may have fraudulently claimed foreign exchange status. It’s not like dems are in the business of falsely claiming unwarranted minority status in order to get a break.
