CBS’s Lara Logan: The Obama Administration Is Lying To You About Afghanistan

Following up her 60 Minutes report of a resurgent Taliban and al-Qaida presence in Afghanistan, CBS’s Lara Logan addressed a government watchdog group in Chicago this week and exposed the real story behind the story… the Obama administration is lying to the American public about the threat posed by radical Islamic terrorist bent on our destruction. Far from being defeated, as Obama would have you believe, the enemy is back and bolder than ever.

Laura Washington of The Chicago Sun Times sums up Logan’s speech:

Her ominous and frightening message was gleaned from years of covering our wars in the Middle East. She arrived in Chicago on the heels of her Sept. 30 report, “The Longest War.” It examined the Afghanistan conflict and exposed the perils that still confront America, 11 years after 9/11.

Eleven years later, “they” still hate us, now more than ever, Logan told the crowd. The Taliban and al-Qaida have not been vanquished, she added. They’re coming back.

…“There is this narrative coming out of Washington for the last two years,” Logan said. It is driven in part by “Taliban apologists,” who claim “they are just the poor moderate, gentler, kinder Taliban,” she added sarcastically. “It’s such nonsense!”

…She made a passionate case that our government is downplaying the strength of our enemies in Afghanistan and Pakistan, as a rationale of getting us out of the longest war. We have been lulled into believing that the perils are in the past: “You’re not listening to what the people who are fighting you say about this fight. In your arrogance, you think you write the script.”

Our enemies are writing the story, she suggests, and there’s no happy ending for us.

..Logan even called for retribution for the recent terrorist killings of Christopher Stevens, the U.S. ambassador to Libya, and three other officials. The event is a harbinger of our vulnerability, she said. Logan hopes that America will “exact revenge and let the world know that the United States will not be attacked on its own soil. That its ambassadors will not be murdered, and that the United States will not stand by and do nothing about it.

Watch the whole speech below and remember that’s coming from a member of the mainstream media. Imagine what she could do if she were the moderator for the Presidential debate that will focus on foreign policy…

Perhaps that explains why the President prefers to be interviewed on The View and sports talk radio shows than by real journalists.

Eleven years later, “they” still hate us, now more than ever, Logan told the crowd.

It must be because of our freedom. I”m sure all of the wedding parties we’ve mistakenly bombed have nothing to do with it, nor our support for the Korrupt Karzai Klan.

Lara was quite a cockhound in Iraq, with Michael Ware of CNN and a DOD contractor fighting over her. I’ve heard some chicks go completely deranged in these war zones from alpha male attention in a female-scarce environment. Maybe that’s why she likes the war so much.

    • Wild_Willie

Chico, you have become dispicable to me. This woman was raped severely/savagely in Egypt. After medical attention she goes back on the job. That my friend is courage. You bring her down to the sexist sex toy image. Again, you are dispicable.
Lara, tell it like it is. The American people can take the truth. Well, except liberals. ww

      • Commander_Chico_Cognoscente

She is pimping for more good Americans to be killed in a futile war. Sorry, the world is not “all about her.”

        • jim_m

Chico doubles down on stupid declaring that freedom is futile and that we should just surrender to the murderers and rapists.

        • 914

No, the world is all about enabling your Obamasiah to lie and get away with it.

        • Jwb10001

I completely agree with Wild_Willie: this was a despicable thing to write.

    • http://www.rustedsky.net JLawson

Oh, so she DESERVED what she got?

Man, come on. You really believe that shit you’re spouting – or are you just trying to spin the story off of the ME and make it about the messenger?

      • Commander_Chico_Cognoscente

First, after listening to the speech, she revealed no evidence that Al Qaeda was in fact “resurgent” in Afghanistan.

Second, her comparison with Vietnam, saying that it was completely different from Afghanistan, got it exactly wrong. For all of the folly of the Vietnam War, you have to acknowledge that Vietnam was territory contested by the USA against expansionist and dangerous Soviet communism. While there are similarities between the Viet Cong and “Taliban” who might be fighting to get rid of foreign troops, she said that “the Viet Cong was not a part of a global struggle”, and implies Al Qaeda is more of a threat than the Soviet Union was. Ridiculous.

“Our way of life is under attack.” No, Lara, we are attacking their way of life.

Third, for all of the “white knights” who want to defend her honor: just because she was sexually assaulted does not mean what she says has any validity.

        • 914

“Our way of life is under attack.” No, Lara, we are attacking their way of life.”

Their way of life happen’s to be planning terrorist attacks. So fuck em

        • jim_m

“Our way of life is under attack.” No, Lara, we are attacking their way of life.

OK. SO their way of life is to turn back the clock to the 7th century, treat women like cattle, murder homosexuals, ban music as a sin, and kill or horribly persecute anyone of a different religion.

Defend that if you want. Some ways of life deserve to be expunged. Meanwhile you have at least outed yourself as anti-woman, anti-gay, anti-religion, anti-freedom. You have aligned yourself with fascists and thugs and declared that their way of life is equal to ours.

          You’re disgusting.

          • Commander_Chico_Cognoscente

Again, a guy who never served who wants to sacrifice Americans so that Afghan women can wear miniskirts when they come back into fashion.

America will destroy itself and its freedoms fighting for the “freedom” of Afghans. The freedom Afghans most want is freedom from us.

          • jim_m

That attitude worked out really well for Neville Chamberlain. Allowing oppression to flourish anywhere, especially when it is of the aggressive brand that we see in islamic fascism, only postpones the inevitable.

Obviously you are among the fools who refuse to learn from history. Freedom is never destroyed by defending it.

          • Commander_Chico_Cognoscente

We are invading other countries, bombing them, deposing their leaders at will, even when those countries are at a state of peace with us, like Ghaddafi was.

          • Hank_M

            Ah yes, Ghaddafi.
He’d probably still be around if it weren’t for the chickenhawk leading from behind Obama.

          • Jwb10001

You know you’ve sunk pretty low when you come out in support of Ghaddafi, wonder what’s next for Chico defending Jeffery Dohmer?

          • jim_m

Yes, well, he was never an ally but was at least cooperative under Bush. I guess that just goes to show that with obama you are better off being an outright enemy than having any association with the US.

          • http://wizbangblog.com/author/rodney-graves/ Rodney G. Graves

Allow me to say it then.

The culture which produces suicide bombers must be crushed as far from our shores and civilian population as possible.

Chico is a raving lunitic who probably thinks there a black helicopers follwing him around.

      • herddog505

I suggest that it’s less “blame America first” than “death to those who criticize Obama!”

Think about it: who gets the real criticism – even to the level of vicious personal attacks – here? Is it “chickenhawk” Barry, who has continued the war in A-stan, continued the drone strikes, continued to keep innocent goatherders locked up in Gitmo, waged “kinetic military action” on Libya, sent “advisors” to Jordan to “help” with the situation in Syria, bungled in Benghazi and then lied like hell about it (a YouTube video? Seriously?)?
Or is it the reporter who (to my astonishment) criticized Barry for lying about what’s going on in A-stan?

Who is making policy decisions that get people killed… and who gets called a whore for criticizing him?

        • jim_m

Who gets called a whore for being raped by a bunch of muslims.

          FIFY

        • Commander_Chico_Cognoscente

She’s not really criticizing Obama – Obama is staying in Afghanistan for two more years. The Euros will pull out next year, leaving the USA alone.

I have no truck with Obama, but Logan just wants to stay in Afghanistan forever, apparently.

          • Jwb10001

I can barely believe anyone would write that Chico.
Your rebuttal to Logan is that she’s a (I’m not even going to write it)?

Someone tell me again about the Republican war on women.

    • jim_m

Here Chico. Why don’t you defend this atrocity while you are at it. Seems that Chico has no problems with a culture that sets people on fire because they belong to the wrong religion.

Not all cultures are equal. Some truly are barbaric and deserve to be snuffed out.

      • Commander_Chico_Cognoscente

You pick out one atrocity. Many many more Iraqi and Afghan children have died by US bombs than in this kind of sectarian violence.

When you consider the number of innocent people killed as mistakes or collateral damage in the USA’s recent wars – at least 100,000 in Iraq, a war of choice – who are the barbarians?

        • 914

Yes ,well all of that could have been avoided if Saddam had not played shell game’s with weapons inspectors and took pot shots at our pilots in the no fly zone.

        • jim_m

          That’s peanuts compared to Hussein:

“he [Saddam] murdered as many as a million of his people, many with poison gas. He tortured, maimed and imprisoned countless more. His unprovoked invasion of Iran is estimated to have left another million people dead. His seizure of Kuwait threw the Middle East into crisis. More insidious, arguably, was the psychological damage he inflicted on his own land. Hussein created a nation of informants — friends on friends, circles within circles — making an entire population complicit in his rule”. Others have estimated 800,000 deaths caused by Saddam not counting the Iran-Iraq war. Estimates as to the number of Iraqis executed by Saddam’s regime vary from 300-500,000 to over 600,000, estimates as to the number of Kurds he massacred vary from 70,000 to 300,000, and estimates as to the number killed in the put-down of the 1991 rebellion vary from 60,000 to 200,000. Estimates for the number of dead in the Iran-Iraq war range upwards from 300,000.

But I understand that their lives are meaningless to you and their freedom is inconsequential to you. You don’t care about anyone else especially women and people with brown skin.

Chico belongs to the blame America first crowd. There is no atrocity that anyone else can do that is worse than the smallest offense that he can ascribe to the US. Hussein can murder millions and that is nothing. He can use poison gas on civilians and it means nothing. Chico finds that the US is far guiltier for saving the hundreds of thousands of lives that would otherwise have been murdered.

          • Commander_Chico_Cognoscente

The USA should not be “going abroad in search of monsters to destroy” as JQ Adams said. This will destroy our freedom and prosperity if it continues.

          • jim_m

We are not searching for monsters. We have already identified who the monsters are. We are not the Orkin man inspecting every house in the city in search of termites. We already know that we have them. We are just looking for the nest.

Ben Franklin said “Anyone who trades liberty for security deserves neither liberty nor security”. He was thinking of you when he said it.

    • The_Queen_of_France

      Chico, you’re a pig.

  • jim_m

The fact is that she is correct. The ugly strain of islam that fuels the taliban and al qaida can only be suppressed and is not likely ever to be extinguished. This does not mean that, like chico, we should just roll over and let them destroy civilization. We should stand up and fight for freedom and they should receive no quarter and neither should those who hide and support them.

Ignorant appeasers like chico should be consigned to the fringe of civil society where they belong, alongside other infamous collaborators of history.

    • ackwired

Hopefully, we have learned from our mistakes, and will fight them differently. Invasions of countries with conventional forces have only made the opposition stronger. Bombing their homes has created more radical enemies. What has worked is covert war fought primarily with special forces and out of sight of the media. Hopefully we are moving in that direction.

      • jim_m

What really works is a government committed to winning. We certainly do not have that today.

      • BunnyOle

*learned from our mistakes’ XD XD XD I guess that’s why they are so hot and heavy to get into Syria. No, let’s be REAL HERE. the Lockerbie bombing occurred in 1988 (for example). Muslims already were beginning their ‘war on the west’ a long time ago. Prior to 9/11 the taliban had taken over 90% of afghanistan & america was using ‘diplomacy’ to no avail, of course. The ‘covert actions’ of which you speak that the U.S. employs are the ones that lead to the current leadership in Iran and Libya. There is no way covert actions could stop a group with the ability to take over 90% of an entire country. What they really need to do is MORE bombing.

IRAN, our CIA helped overthrow leadership in the 80′s, now radical islam is in charge, and they hate America.

The Taliban was a mixture mujahadeen who fought against the Soviet Invasion of the 80′s and some Pashtun tribesmen who attended MADRASSAs in PAKISTAN. (you know, like Obama attended Madrassa in Indonesia). AMERICA gave weapons to and trained mujahadeen in the 80′s and by the 90′s they were already plotting the twin tower attack. Now we’ve gone back, given them better weapons and MORE training.

Apparently our government is incapable of ‘learning’ OR they have an agenda of which we are unaware.

We invaded Iraq, too stupid to realize they would all go crazy and start killing each other & a mass cleansing of Christians the first chance they got – a nightmare.

The administration supported EGYPT’s THE ARAB SPRING and now the Muslim Brotherhood is in charge in Egypt. The main goal of M.B. is to spread Islamic law worldwide & the destruction of all other religions.

WE HELPED ”’REBELS”” overthrow Gadaffi to ‘save benghazi’ whereupon the rebels immediately emptied a city of 30,000 people from a town they said was ‘against’ Benghazi (they were mostly blacks) and began a massive ethnic cleansing against blacks, refilled the infamous Gaddafi prison where 1,000 arrested people were held and killed WITH OVER 8,000 people. Doctors Without Borders LEFT stating they refused to repair torture victims only to have them show back up again and again. THAT’S WHO WE HELPED. The minute the ‘rebels’ (Al Qaeda trained & supported terrorists, many of whom were not even Libyan) won the war they hanged an Al Qaeda flag above their headquarters.

NOW Syria is having a ”CIVIL WAR” which strangely in the beginning there were no weapons among the civilian population. One reason the country had remained stable. Christians, Kurds, Syrians all lived together, nobody was being ‘cleansed’ as is now happening in Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan & Libya.

SUDDENLY thousands of people in Syria have NEW MODERN expensive weaponry and we call it a CIVIL war, even though the rebels are not even Syrians. Even though the slaughters of CIVILIANS are perpetrated by ‘rebels’ against those who oppose their terrorism. THE REBELS kill to terrorize people and for propaganda purposes. (claiming the Syrian army did it, when it NEVER was them in the first place. America & Britain admitted they already had CIA & MI5 ‘advisors’ in place in Libya AND Syria. IF the terrorists gain power in Syria, WE will have successfully placed ONE MORE RADICAL ISLAMIC POWER in charge.

WE AMERICAN CITIZENS are the ones who should learn from the mistakes we have made trusting whatever agenda the government has in the middle east, because IT IS NOT IN OUR FAVOR.

hahaa I always thought OBL had died years ago. Even if he was killed in that recent raid, it had nothing what-so-ever to do with Obama. What did he go over there and FIND him? I guess that way if it had backfired he could have blamed somebody else. You go girl. Wow, beautiful, smart and honest too. I’m in love with you Lara.

  • JWH

I would not be surprised if AQ and the Taliban are resurgent within Afghanistan and Pakistan. That said, there are no simple answers.

Take the drone program, for instance. Ostensibly, the United States repays the terrorists with precision strikes from remotely piloted drones. But these remotely piloted drones do make mistakes. People who aren’t targeted do die … and these errors, in turn, create more resentment among the people having bombs fall out of the sky on them, which creates more terrorists.

But on the flip side, the United States cannot allow terrorism to go unanswered. Whoever attacked the consulate in Benghazi needs to be brought down, and brought down hard. But how do you find them? And how do you get those people without damaging America’s standing with the still-shaky Libyan government or the Libyan citizens?

The good answers are not always easy to find … and sometimes, I think our choices amount to “bad” and “less bad.”

    • jim_m

And how do you get those people without damaging America’s standing
with the still-shaky Libyan government or the Libyan citizens?

You go in and kill them all. Period. No apologies. They committed an act of war against the US. They pay the price. Someone wants to get torqued about us defending our people and they can get in line right after the terrorists. People respect you when you are not a push over. Time for a two step response:

Respectfully for JWH, most if not all of the “innocents” affected by drone strikes and other actions fall into the category of offering support, aid and comfort to those who wuld kill any American just because of their birthplace.

    • jim_m

Are you really that stupid and historically illiterate? Are you so incapable that you cannot even google an issue to find out the truth? Or are you such an ignorant ideologue that the truth does not matter and your “trooth” trumps all facts?

The October, 2002, U.S. congress Iraq War Resolution cited many factors to justify the use of military force against Iraq:

*Iraq’s noncompliance with the conditions of the 1991 ceasefire agreement,
including interference with U.N. weapons inspectors.

*Iraq’s alleged weapons of mass destruction, and programs to develop such weapons, posed a “threat to the national security of the United States and International peace and security in the Persian Gulf region.”

*Iraq’s “brutal repression of its civilian population.”*Iraq’s “capability and willingness to use weapons of mass destruction against other nations and its own people”.

*Iraq’s hostility towards the United States as demonstrated by the
1993 assassination attempt on former President George H. W. Bush and
firing on coalition aircraft enforcing the no-fly zones following the
      1991 Gulf War.

*Members of al-Qaeda, an organization bearing responsibility for attacks on the United States, its citizens, and interests, including the attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, are known to be in Iraq.

*Iraq’s “continuing to aid and harbor other international terrorist
organizations,” including anti-United States terrorist organizations.

*Iraq paid bounty to families of suicide bombers.

*The efforts by the Congress and the President to fight terrorists,
including the September 11th, 2001 terrorists and those who aided or
      harbored them.

*The authorization by the Constitution and the Congress for the President to fight anti-United States terrorism.

*The governments in Turkey, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia feared Saddam and wanted him removed from power.

*Citing the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, the resolution reiterated that it should be the policy of the United States to remove the Saddam Hussein regime and promote a democratic replacement.

You might want to go back under your rock so you can continue to live in utter ignorance. Don’t try rubbing it off on others here.

      • jim_m

Oh, and don’t forget that all the intelligence on Iraq that was used to back up these reasons was developed by the Clinton Administration. SO if you want to go blaming someone for misleading the American public go find Bill Clinton.

As for your BULLSHIT that no one knew of Al Qaeda before Bush, I suggest some more history lessons where you will find outr that the terrorist organization was founded in 1988 and was responsible for the World Trade Center bombing in 1992. SO again., Bill Clinton knew about them and did nothing.

Thanks for playing. Maybe next time arm yourself with real facts and not ideological bullshit.
