U.S. Recognizes Syrian Opposition Council

From The AP via Fox News

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama says the U.S. now recognizes Syria’s main opposition group as the “legitimate representative” of the country’s people.

Obama says the Syrian Opposition Council is now “inclusive enough” to be granted greater legitimacy in the international community. The president says that level of recognition comes with responsibility, including making sure the group organizes itself effectively and is committed to a political transition that respects the rights of women and minorities.

The move paves the way for greater U.S. support as the group seeks the ouster of Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Though it’s a little bit old, this BBC story identifies some of the key players. If you wondered about the Muslim Brotherhood, they’re in the mix…

Shocker. obama trips all over himself to be the first to legitimize the coming islamofascist government of Syria. At least in the case of Syria they were already ostensibly our enemy.

Can we at least get an admission that the administration was full of it when they claimed that Assad was a reformer?

I suspect most people would say that he has shown his true colors by now.

    • jim, apparently, you did not read that FOX News story, which says the following:

Recognition of the council as the sole representative of Syria’s diverse population brings the U.S. in line with Britain, France and several of America’s Arab allies, which took the same step shortly after the body was created at a meeting of opposition representatives in Qatar last month.

Of course Jim was lying. He has nothing better to do then post lies and BS – and its amazing that nobody on the conservative side — besides you, david — ever calls him on his lies.

So if eurabia and the conquered britain say something, we have to agree?

    • JWH

There’s not exactly a great choice in Syria. On the one hand, you have Bashar Assad and his cronies. On the other hand, you have a motley assortment of secularists, Islamists, terrorists, and people just fed up with the Assad regime. Which side do you choose? The only course is for the United States to make the better of the bad choices available.

      • sablegsd

That is NOT the only choice.

        • JWH

          What do you suggest, then?

          • Commander_Chico

Staying out of it altogether. It doesn’t matter much to the American people who rules Syria.

  • Commander_Chico

    Allahu Akbar.

First Assad, then Assad’s ally, Iran. That’s the plan.

Who cares that you’re giving Syria to Al Qaeda? What could go wrong?

ovomit is a member of the muslim brotherhood. I don’t see any women there. Any Christians? Jews? Just how damn inclusive are they, you muslim, commie POS.
