Not All Occupiers Are Violent Extremists…

Note from the Media: Occupy is mostly peaceful. Not all occupiers are violent, extremists with bomb materials…except when they are.

Morgan Gliedman and her Occupy lover, Aaron Greene are headed for jail. Gliedman is 9 months pregnant. Wonder how Gliedman’s parents feel about raising their grandkid.

NY Post:

A detective discovered a plastic container with seven grams of a white chemical powder called HMTD, which is so powerful, cops evacuated several nearby buildings.

Police also found a flare launcher, which is a commercial replica of a grenade launcher; a modified 12 gauge Mossberg 500 shotgun; ammo; and nine high-capacity rifle magazines, the sources said.

Cops also allegedly uncovered papers about creating homemade booby traps, improvised submachine guns, and various handwritten notebooks containing chemical formulas.

HMTD is not kid stuff. Just a few grams of it are quite powerful.  It’s the same stuff used in the 2005 London Undergound bombings.

“Just a lot of passionate kids with good ideas about how we can fix our country.”

    — Standard lefty apologia for IOWS

As for the “high capacity rifle magazines”:

    1. Call David Gregory for tips on how to beat the rap for that;

    2. Did they have the rifle to go with them?

While I have no love for IOWS, I would like to caution everybody against leaping to too many conclusions: the police just LOVE to pile on the “evidence” of wrong-doing.

Now, it strikes me that, while the possession of the HMTD is (ahem) highly suspicious, the other items are less so. A flare launcher? A “modified” Mossberg 500 (one of the most popular shotguns in America)? “Modified” how, exactly? Did they saw off the barrel and stock? Attach a flashlight or a pistol-grip stock?

I’d really like to know more details here. As I’m a military history buff, my library at home is full of books that a zealous police official might be happy to describe as “paramilitary training manuals” or some similar, scary term. Ditto my “arsenal”: a “high capacity” 22 rifle and a “sniper” rifle, i.e. the single-shot 22 I got as a child with a cheap Tasco scope. And I hate to think what they’d make of my college chemistry textbooks…

If the Occupados picks up a few extra charges, its OK with me. I would consider that the moral to one of Aesop’s lesser known fables titled “Dont Poop on the Police Car”.

However the odds are these guys get a slap on the wrist if even that much. The left takes care of its own.

      • herddog505

LiberalNightmareIf the Occupados picks up a few extra charges, its OK with me.

I understand the detestation of the IOWS; right there with you. However, do we really want the police / DA’s to continue the habit of piling on charge after charge in the hopes of getting SOME sort of conviction, if for no other reason than the defendant gets battered into a plea bargain?

Let’s forget that these two are IOWS clowns, but instead imagine that they are NRA members. If the left gets their way, this is EXACTLY what gun owners can look forward to. Better to start reining in our over-zealous legal system before it tramples on us.

I also suggest that the police and MiniTru are not exactly known for getting it right. Let’s remember the (ahem) “facts” that were broadcast about George Zimmerman that turned out to be completely false. The cops in this case have a bust, a “sexy” one because ZOMG! TERRORISM! But is it really?

I would like to know more before I see these people tossed into the hoosegow.

As for the HMTD, while their possession of it warrants considerable investigation, seven grams is not very much. By comparison, the M-67 grenade contains 180g of Composition B.

        • LiberalNightmare

          I disagree.

Either one of these two f#cksticks would happily dance on my grave if they could have me executed for owning a 30 round magazine.

          Screw both of em.

          • Lanza was used by the evil government, just like Holmes! What a shame! All connected to the Libor scandal. No one knows the truth, the media sees to that along with the Obamanation of Desolation and his pimped out women Nazi pay pals.

Example: Jarrett, Hitlary, Pelosi, Feinstein, Rice just to name a few, including MO of course who is his beard.

I have to agree with Herddog here. We’re always complaining about newspapers engaging in more sensationalism than actual reporting. A long time ago friend of mine was a victim of the same “few extra charges” for committing no real crime. And the way the newspaper article was written you’d think it was the biggest bust of all time; “Cocaine! Marijuana! Firearms!”

In case you’re wondering, he had a three inch pot plant in a closet, in another closet was a completely rusted up ancient 22 winchester his dad gave him years and years before and his roommate had left evidence of a tiny corner of a baggie with cocaine residue in a trash can. Neither young man was ever any “danger to society” (aside from making a couple of poor choices in their lives). They each spent 8 months in jail and the taxpayers paid for their lawyers, court fees and room and board for all that time.

        So yeah, I’m skeptical.

Where is the evidence that these suspects are linked to the Occupy movement? There isn’t any in the story, either in the Post or the Blaze. To the Blaze’s credit, they do update with a denial by Occupy that these folks are connected to it.

Not that Lady Liberty would have the same journalistic scruples as the Blaze. Lol.

    • herddog505

      First paragraph of linked story:

The privileged daughter of a prominent city doctor, and her boyfriend — a Harvard grad and Occupy Wall Street activist — have been busted for allegedly having a cache of weapons and a bombmaking explosive in their Greenwich Village apartment. [emphasis mine – hd505]

As for the denial from IOWS, they are very good at denying that this hoodlum or that loony is “part” of their smelly movement. Indeed, they seem to get a great deal of practice. Strange, isn’t it?

      • Brucehenry

Yes, I see the allegation. Where is the evidence to support it?

        • herddog505

Well, that’s one of the questions, along with the ones I have about the “cache of weapons” and the explosives (the police and media DO love to sensationalize things like this).

Does IOWS issue membership cards? Do these two consider themselves members of that unwashed movement? What defines a “official” member of IOWS?

All this remains to be seen. However, it seems to me that you are grasping at straws: Lady Liberty reported that these two are members of IOWS, which is information that she got – and posted in what we may assume was good faith – from the Post.

          • Brucehenry

This is akin, IMO, to left-wing blogs reporting that this or that gun nut is a “Tea Party activist” because somebody else said so first, is all I’m sayin’.

If the Post has reason to believe this guy is an OWS activist, let’s see the reason. If they don’t show the reason, let’s refrain from repeating unsubstantiated allegations.

EDIT: the POINT of LL’s piece is that these two are Occupiers, but she has no evidence to support the contention beyond that half a sentence in the Post article.

          • herddog505

I don’t disagree, but the problem is knowing what you know. The Post reported – we assume in good faith – that this guy is a member of IOWS. The claim was repeated – we assume in good faith – by Lady Liberty.

At what point does one have to virtually empanel a court to determine if a statement is true?

We shall see how this shakes out.

          • Brucehenry

Your assumption of good faith on LL’s part may well be justified. (Although I don’t see an update corresponding to that of The Blaze.)

The Post? Maybe not so much.

          • Ah, the ‘attack the author’ bit again. I am transmitting what is out there at the time of the post.

From the POST article, you clearly didn’t read:
“People who know Greene say his political views are “extreme,” the sources said.”

There is also a bit about his multiple arrests at the bottom of the POST piece.
I’ll be updating my piece with additional info. Stay tuned.

          • Brucehenry

Was Wizbang not upset that there was so much repetition of information that later turned out to be incorrect in the Lanza story? Those folks were were just “transmitting what was out there,” weren’t they?

“People who know Greene say his political views are ‘extreme,’ the sources said”

Which people? What sources? What constitutes “extreme” to these people?.And what in his arrest record implies “membership” in OWS?

But I’m glad you’ll be updating with additional info. Of course, you haven’t yet seen fit to post the same update The Blaze did.

          • Brucehenry

BTW, if every criticism of your articles is to be considered an “attack on the author” I don’t know what to tell you.

          • We’ve had this discussion before. You repeatedly blame me for items I report from other sources and assign assumptions about me to said items.

That’s not criticism, that’s tunnel vision.

          • Brucehenry

If I repeated an allegation from MSNBC that so-and-so, accused of something nefarious, was a Tea Party extremist, would you not question my allegation?

Why would you not think I would insist that a Murdoch-owned organ be subject to the same standard you would hold MSNBC to? Or a repetition of an allegation from said organ?

BTW, I’m out the door to see Les Mis AGAIN. See you this evening?

        • jim_m

Funny how the left, like Bruce here, takes allegations of racism and hate against the TEA Party as true on their face with no evidence to support them what so ever. Yet when it comes to the OWS movement, despite the violence, the rapes, the murders, the drug use, the child molesters, etc, proof is always demanded because they are so certain that the OWS movement is inherently sinless.

          • Brucehenry

Perhaps you’d like to share some examples from Wizbang when I took allegations of racism and hate against the Tea Party as true on their face. Link away, Jim!

          • herddog505

I think that most people have a similar bias: “Oh, that’s JUST the sort of thing I’d expect from THOSE people.”

However, I think we’ve had more than ample evidence lately that MiniTru is AT BEST incompetent and perhaps even outright dishonest. Consider the information put out about George Zimmerman, Benghazi and the Newtown horror: so much was wrong, and so much of what was wrong was repeated until it had the appearance of truth.

It’s a damned shame that one has to read / watch news articles with the attitude that it’s mostly if not entirely bullsh*t, but that seems to be where we are in our country.

          • Brucehenry

“So much was wrong, and so much of what was wrong was repeated until it had the appearance of truth.”

            That’s what I’m saying!

Hell, for all I know, these two INVENTED Occupy. What I am saying is that there is no evidence in the Post’s story supporting the allegation that these two, accused of plotting terrorism, were connected to Occupy. It’s incendiary on the Post’s part to claim this without evidence, and, IMO, irresponsible to repeat it until more is known. And when THE POINT of your article is that these two are Occupiers, you should have more evidence than a phrase in a New York frickin’ Post article.

          • herddog505

I think it’s reasonable to want to see what the evidence is.

          • Indeed. More shall come out I am sure.
Greene is being held without bail; his prior 5 arrests likely are the reason for that. I’m digging to find his arrest record and will update when I find it.
The NY Post isn’t exactly a small or unknown outlet; they had a source who named Greene as an Occupy Activist. This is what I base my own article on. Now that a photo is up of Greene, I imagine we’ll see some more info start to trickle in.

Also, good thing the NYPD was diligent on credit card fraud eh? What a find in an unsuspecting rich kid’s apartment! You have to wonder how jealous the FBI is. Ahem.

          • jim_m

It would be reasonable if the standard were applied equally to the right and the left. Somehow the left rarely ever demands for proof of allegations against the right but they never fail to demand proof of allegations against the left.

For their lefty friends it is innocent until proven guilty. For the right it is guilty until proven innocent.

          • I was just going to say that, but you beat me to it. Cheers!

          • Brucehenry

Well, what about all the times I insisted, with certainty, that OWS is “inherently sinless”?

          • jim_m

            like Bruce here,

I’m referring to this comment thread.

          • Brucehenry

OK, so point it out in this thread.

          • jim_m

Where is the evidence that these suspects are linked to the Occupy movement?

You demand additional evidence. The problem OWS has is that they are an amorphous movement with no official membership. Thus they can deny all they want that Aaron Greene is not affiliated with them but apparently he identifies with the movement.

After all, it isn’t like others identified with the OWS movement have not already been convicted of being domestic terrorists

Plus there does appear to be some sort of link to Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrne.

I think it is just another example of oikophobic lefties who hate the society they grew up in and feel like they have the right to go murdering innocent people in order to advance their agenda. Had they succeeded we would find the left lining up behind them to use their acts to advance their agenda.

          • Brucehenry

Haha so asking where the evidence is = insisting OWS is “sinless” or that the Tea Party is filled with hate

.Also, there is not one word about Occupy in your USA Today link, nor any further evidence linking Greene to Occupy in your Daily Caller link.

EDIT: Wooops, mistaken about the USA Today story! Is my face red, or what?

Anyway, like I said, it may well BE that Greene is an Occupier. My whole point is that no evidence of that has been shown so far.

EDIT 2: I like the term “oikophobic,” Jim. Very literate, very impressive, very….Greek, lol.

          • jim_m

Is my face red, or what?

Actually, according to your avatar it looks rather grey. 😀

I find oikophobic to be an apt description for the reflexive self hate the left has for their own country. The left hates America, hates western civilization, hates the constitution, hates the symbols of this nation, etc. Oikophobia is a fear of the familiar. An irrational fear and hate of those things that they grew up with is exactly what the left stands for today.

No, I have not found additional evidence linking Greene, but then the OWS movement has denied association with people who lived in their camps who committed crimes. Their denials are not worth much.

  • Still waiting for the stories like this about those “gun-crazy Teabaggers” to come out. I’m sure it will be any day now… just any day… now… any…
