Quote Of The Day – Obama Was Against Raising The Debt Limit Before He Was For It Edition

The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies… America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.

Senator Barack Obama on March 20, 2006 (via NRO) addressing raising the debt ceiling during the Bush administration. He spoke today on the debt ceiling and miraculously found no fault in his leadership and danced around his votes against raising the debt ceiling when he was a Senator. Here’s video of that exchange with Major Garrett today:

      “in a few seconds??” Wth?

      • jim_m

Oh, you haven’t noticed that? I have had it say, “In 5 minutes”. What is weird is that I have also seen it on other people’s posts so I don’t know what that means.

The benefit of having no moral compass is that you can be on either side of an issue and believe fervently in your correctness. obama probably believes that he was dead right when he opposed it and definitely believes that he is totally in the right now.

Of course it could also be that he is a sociopath and has no scruple against lying to anyone and everyone he meets if he thinks it’s to his advantage.

I’m willing to cut Barry some slack in that he’s a politician, and “evolving” on issues (i.e. lying through their f*cking teeth) is their stock in trade.

O’ course, he was supposed to be a “different kind of politician”, wasn’t he?

      He’s “differently abled”.

Have to hand it to Barry. He can talk out of both sides of his mouth AND his anal orifice, all at the same time.

Mr. President you don’t get to raise the debt ceiling until we see a balanced budget.

    • herddog505

Yeah, like any member of Congress would actually say that.

I’m convinced that they are loving this almost as much as he is: they get to spend as much as they want on anything they want without the bother of passing a budget and being (gasp!) on the record for it.

I’m having a hard time imagining any way this guy could be a worse President?

  • Number of times Republican senators voted to raise the debt ceiling from 2002 to 2011, before they were against it………………….52

Your hypocrisy is showing. Every last dem voted against raising the debt ceiling for Bush.

Declaring themselves outraged by such spending, Reid, Durbin, Schumer, and Murray all voted against raising the debt limit. So did every other Democrat — including Sen. Barack Obama. But on Friday, the four lawmakers urged now-President Obama not only to raise the ceiling but to do it in a constitutionally risky fashion by going over the head of Congress.

At least the GOP didn’t try to do it in an unconstitutional way. You’re becoming more dishonest by the day Steve. I used to think that you were somewhat respectable, now I know better.

Failure in leadership. A leadership failure.
See, Obama can speak the truth some times…
