Liberal Media Members Silence Dissenting Voices

Liberal political commentator Juan Williams was interviewed by The Daily Caller’s Ginni Thomas. Here is an excerpt of what Williams had to say about the liberal media:

I always thought it was the Archie Bunkers of the world, the right-wingers of world, who were more resistant and more closed-minded about hearing the other side.  In fact, what I have learned is, in a very painful way — and I can open this shirt and show you the scars and the knife wounds — is that it is big media institutions who are identifiably more liberal to left-leaning who will shut you down, stab you and kill you, fire you, if they perceive that you are not telling the story in the way that they want it told.

Liberals silencing dissenting voices?  Who knew?

Unfortunately, the only people that care are the ones who already know that the MSM acts this way. As for the left, they will see Williams as a discredited right winger. NPR has already written the story on Williams in order to protect their own far left bias.

Juan Williams is a liberal? That would be the day! From wikipedia “Some days after Williams wrote a column defending Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas against sworn testimony by Anita Hill charging sexual harassment by Thomas, it was revealed that several female employees of the Post had filed sexual harassment charges against Williams. The paper took disciplinary action against Williams and published an apology by him. On November 2, 1991, Williams wrote: “It pained me to learn during the investigation that I had offended some of you. I have said so repeatedly in the last few weeks, and repeat here: some of my verbal conduct was wrong, I now know that, and I extend my sincerest apology to those whom I offended.”

Conservatives, (even though many liberals can be offensive to women, for example the Oscar host ,Seth MacFarlane ) you can have Juan Williams! I don’t know any liberals who defended Clarence Thomas, against Anita Hill, with the possible exception of the idiot Joe Biden, at the time.

    • jim_m

As if on cue Steve comes to ratify my prediction that the idiot left will condemn Williams as a conservative. Thanks Steve, for your utter predictability.

      • http://wizbangblog.com/author/rodney-graves/ Rodney G. Graves

Nor is he alone, his fellow traveler just threw the race card.

        • SteveCrickmore075

Both Anita Hill and Clarence Thomas are black as is Williams. Where is the race card, this is non race card issue!

          • SteveCrickmore075

Yes, Clarence Thomas was probably picked because of his race, that was self evident. July 1, 1991, President George H. W. Bush nominated Clarence Thomas for the Supreme Court of the United States to replace Thurgood Marshall, who had announced his retirement.

          • retired.military

So it is “self evident” No other reason. Was Sotomayer picked because she was Hispanic or a woman? Do you consider that “self evident” as well?

            Yeah THought not.

          • Wild_Willie

When you understand that liberals see everything through color, you will understand Stevecrickmore’s comments. Those of us to do not think color are called racist and bigoted but the ones always looking for color are the fair ones. Go figure. ww

      • SteveCrickmore075

I didn’t say he was conservative. I just said he wasn’t really a liberal, only in comparison to the other Fox contributors. He was all over the map.

        • Jwb10001

I call straight BS on that, Juan Williams is a classic liberal, he has liberal views on virtually all issues. He also happens to have a fairly balanced and well thought out view on race, this is what particularly annoys people like you.

      • retired.military

Also Steve has proven that if someone on the left cant toe the liberal line than they are not considered a liberal and should be demonized (and I am not taking up for Williams, I detest him). .

    • herddog505

So… you’re apparently proud of the fact that no liberal other that Williams stood up and said, “Now, hang on a minute!” when a person made unsubstantiated allegations about somebody else? When those allegations were taken as prima facie true? That your fellow lefties tossed “innocent until proved guilty” right out the window?

Oh, wait! I forgot: it isn’t the evidence, it’s the seriousness of the charge.

And being conservative while being black is about as close to a capital offense as there is in the liberal law book.

      • SteveCrickmore075

Juan Williams was a “sexist pig”…Of course he was going to defend Clarence Thomas . At the same time as the Thomas hearing, from the Washington Post..

The disclosure came five days after a Williams column on The Post’s op-ed page in which he said that Anita Hill had “no credible evidence” for her allegations of sexual harassment by Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas, but that Hill was “prompted” to make her charges by Democratic Senate staffers. The Post’s personnel inquiry had begun more than two weeks earlier, but the column angered many women in the newsroom, and several came forward to say that they had also had problems with Williams. Post editors say they decided to make a public statement after WRC-TV aired a report on the controversy.

Seven women said in on-the-record interviews yesterday that Williams had repeatedly made hostile and sexually explicit comments to them, in some cases over a period of several years. All of them said they believed the comments were meant to embarrass them, not an attempt to date them, and most said that Williams persisted despite their protests.

Jo Ellen Murphy, art director of the Weekend section, said that “he was obsessed with my sex life and that’s all he wanted to talk to me about . . . . I raised my voice at him and said, ‘Just don’t talk to me again.’ ”

I think we all know idiots like Wiliams. Would you want him to date one of your daughters’? I don’t know why NPR hired him in the first place? Certainly he is going to make bigoted or offensive comments about muslims or anyone else, such as women, who are different from him!

        • jim_m

Sorry Steve. After your denial that Williams is a liberal, why should we believe anything you have to say about him? Clearly you know little to nothing about the man.

          • retired.military

Well remember that Bruce didnt believe that McCain and Romney were RINOs

Denial is not just a river in Egypt.

          • http://wizbangblog.com/author/rodney-graves/ Rodney G. Graves

And he’s wet to the kness and gazing upon the Pyramids…

        • herddog505

Dunno. He seemed to be OK for the WaPo. How many more years did he work for them? Anyway, I’d take him over Ted Kennedy who, as I recall, was one of Hill’s most vocal supporters. I guess he can be considered as having written the book on sexual harrassment, eh? Sort of the leading expert? I know, I know: THAT’S DIFFERENT!

And talk about questioning the timing! Williams goes off the reservation, and – it’s magic! – within days HE is the target of sexual harrassment claims, too.

Juan Williams, Herman Cain, Clarence Thomas… I’m seeing a pattern here.

          • SteveCrickmore075

70% of black children are born to single mothers..that has been a pattern since the Moynihan report was published in 1965.

          • herddog505

I’m sorry: what has that to do with the present topic?

          • Jwb10001

And guess who is very vocal about that very issue, and is serious about his writing on this topic? That would be Juan Williams. I’m sure you will take issue because Juan’s ideas on this subject don’t deflect the blame away from the absent fathers and look to the government for the solution.

    • retired.military

We dont want Juan “kiss Obama’s *ss Williams” I cringe whenever I see him and Alan Combs on TV” and I dont even watch Fox.

    • http://www.wizbangblog.com David Robertson

Apparently, liberal members of the media aren’t the only ones who will “stab you and kill you, fire you, if they perceive that you are not telling the story in the way that they want it told.” Liberals who read blogs will do the same.

      • http://wizbangblog.com/author/rodney-graves/ Rodney G. Graves

        As we’ve seen here repeatedly…

  • Brucehenry

Boo hoo, Williams is still butthurt because he got fired over a borderline-racist comment.

    • herddog505

“I mean, look, Bill, I’m not a bigot. You know the kind of books I’ve written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous.”

      OFF WITH HIS HEAD!!!

Oh… ohhh… um… maybe that isn’t the best phrase in this context… er… TO THE DUNGEONS WITH HIIM!!!!

Who knew mohammedeans were a race?

        • Brucehenry

Who didn’t know that referring to Muslims as “mohammedeans” was considered disrespectful? (And illiterate) Kind of like referring to Pentecostals as “Holy Rollers.”

          • jim_m

That’s right. We should be respectful of the mohammedans because they might get angry and blow someone up or cut someone’s head off.

When the left honestly starts caring about calling Christians names we will know that Christ has returned to judge the living and the dead.

      • Brucehenry

In 90% of cases, if one must preface a remark with, “Now, look, I’m not a bigot, but…” one is fixing to say something bigoted.

        • jim_m

Or maybe you just know how the left operates, as Williams does. Intimately.

        • herddog505

I thought that only white people could be bigots. Did I miss a memo or something?

      • jim_m

You see Williams is evil and a racist because he doesn’t toe the lefty line. Whereas Jesse Jackson can say this bit of honesty and be OK:

“There is nothing more painful to me at this stage in my life than to walk down the street and hear footsteps and start thinking about robbery — then look around and see somebody white and feel relieved.

The lefty media doesn’t mind Jesse’s own admission because he is whole heartedly part of the race baiting scam machine. But Juan is willing to criticize the MSM therefore under the bus he goes.

        • herddog505

          Jesse “Hymietown” Jackson? That Jackson?

          • jim_m

Seriously? Antisemitism is virtually the price of admission for the left. Why do you think they like Hagel so much?

          • http://wizbangblog.com/author/rodney-graves/ Rodney G. Graves

            The very same.

  • herddog505

[B]ig media institutions who are identifiably more liberal to left-leaning who will shut you down, stab you and kill you, fire you, if they perceive that you are not telling the story in the way that they want it told.

Gosh, Juan: that’s YOUR OWN TEAM you’re talking about. Maybe you should think about this a bit more:

If lefties have to shut down dissent, if they cannot bear to hear opposing viewpoints, if they fear to let anybody else hear them, then maybe it’s because they know that their ideas, policies, goals, etc. are so flimsy – or malevolent – that they can’t withstand scrutiny or criticism.

Maybe – just maybe – all those shibboleths that you’ve learned (because they made damned sure that, if you heard criticism at all, it was portrayed as RAAAAACIST, reactionary, greedy, etc.) are W-R-O-N-G.

Or you can just duck your head, mutter, “Napoleon is always right” and continue what you’re doing, collecting a few more scars along the way, until they send you to the knackers.

  • GarandFan

But…but…but ask any liberal. They’ll tell you how much they value diversity and differing opinions. Just as long as those opinions agree with them.

Evidently Juan Williams is a RACIST!

    • herddog505

And a sexist. Give the lefties time and he’ll be a homophobe, too.

  • Wild_Willie

Juan only learned this lesson when he lived it through NPR a few years ago. He was amazed at the conservatives that rallied at his side. But he is a late comer to the game. I knew this for at least two decades now. There is no tolerance on the left. You will be shouted down, shut down, ignored, derided and made fun of if you even suggest you disagree with them. Thank God for the internet. ww

NPR message board censors free speech, that is, speech that is not Liberal/Progressive/Marxist. This isn’t a problem for privately funded media outlets, their money, their right. But taxpayer funded propaganda is a horse of a different color. I just got off NPR blog, none of my (conservative) comments could pass muster.
