Perino: When Bush Admin Tried to Slam Bob Woodward, The Left Rallied For Him

In an appearance on Fox News, former Bush White House Press Secretary Dana Perino noted that when the Bush team tried to push back against Bob Woodward’s reportage it “failed miserably” because the media rallied behind the iconic reporter. Yet now, after harsh words about Obama, Woodward is being treated like a pariah by that same media.

With Bob Woodward in the news over his report that someone in the Obama administration threatened that he’d “regret” writing so harshly about the President, Fox News talked about how the Bush administration dealt with the famed Washington Post reporter.

On the February 28 broadcast of Megyn Kelly’s America Live, former Bushie Dana Perino talked of the Bush administration’s reaction to Woodward’s 2006 book, State of Denial, a book that hit Bush over his prosecution of the war in Iraq.

Perino noted that they tried to discredit Woodward’s book, but to no avail.

“I tried to tangle with Bob Woodward once. Well, we basically tried to discredit his third book, when it came out, of the Bush administration. It was about the Iraq war,” Perino said. “We tried to put distance between us and Woodward. And it failed miserably. Everybody defended Bob Woodward.”

“In the mainstream media,” host Megyn Kelly asked. Perino confirmed Kelly’s supposition saying, “Yes of course they did.”

“But now they treat him like elephants treat the oldest elephant in the herd,” Perino noted. Kelly responded with: “Yeah, right, pushing him out.”

Kelly went on to show how many of the mainstream media and folks in the White House have attacked Woodward mercilessly in print and n the Internet.

“It’s basically a scorched earth campaign,” Perino said of the media’s treatment of Woodward. “It burns everything down, including trying to burn down his reputation.”

So, the lesson for you young journalist wannabes is: speaking “truth” to the right = always good; speaking truth to the left = forbidden.

Woodward is an apostate to the cult of personality. He will now be shunned.

He will be reinstated once he writes something scathing about a Republican. I expect a hard hitting story about Boehner will be forthcoming from Woodward.

…. expect, from Woodward, a hard hitting story about Boehner ….

If he can find a “source” to dictate it.

The Cuban Missile Crisis. The last time a democrat stood up to a communist dictator and the last time a majority of the left took sides with the US against a communist nation. Since then dem presidents have been desperately trying to kiss the cheeks (both on the face and otherwise) of communists world wide.

        • SteveCrickmore075

You and Dana have the same level of knowledge about history. Who went to China, and who withdrew from Vietnam, and allowed North Vietnam to swallow South Vietnam?- Nixon and Kissinger!

The man who saved the world… 50 years ago, at the height of the Cuban Missile Crisis, second-in-command Vasilli Arkhipov of the Soviet submarine B-59 refused …to agree with his Captain’s order to launch nuclear torpedos against US warships and setting off what might well have been a terminal superpower nuclear war.

The US had been dropping depth charges near the submarine in an attempt to force it to surface, unaware it was carrying nuclear arms. The Soviet officers, who had lost radio contact with Moscow, concluded that World War 3 had begun, and two of the officers agreed to ‘blast the warships out of the water’. Arkhipov refused to agree – unanimous consent of three officers was required – and thanks to him, we are here to talk about it.

His story is finally being told – the BBC is airing a documentary on it.

SO your point is that we should be thankful to the communists that they didn’t start WWIII? I’ll pass.

Maybe they could run that alongside the story of Castro demanding that Khrushchev launch a preemptive strike against the US. Yeah, the same Castro that the left has deified for the last half century, wanted to incinerate you all. That brings new meaning to the term useful idiots.

          • He just wants to play the Cold War backwards so it has a happier ending (from his point of view).

          • herddog505

Thanks, but if I’m going to give any credit for a peaceful resolution to the Cuban Missile Crisis, it goes to Curtis LeMay, Tommy Power, and William Raborn, who gave us the strategic advantage to make Khrushchev blink.

          • jim_m

Seriously? You think that kissing Brezhnev and sucking up to every commie dictator is the same as opening diplomatic relations with China? Or concluding a disastrous war?

I’d certainly be entertained with your defense of the Vietnam war and how many additional lives the left would have demanded that we expend defeating communism.

Acknowledging political reality is different then siding with our enemies. Obviously you cannot make that distinction.

So let me get this straight. Dana Perino states the obvious about the leftward media’s behavior toward Woodward and the usual suspect pops in to criticize her personally for her lack of knowledge of something that happened 50 years ago in an attempt to derail the thread. The quality of trolls here has not improved one bit. Can’t we at least get some who can stay on topic?
If you ask me, I don’t care who writes what book about who as long as it’s factual and objective. Apparently our media has forgotten that tiny bit about their career choice; facts and objectivism. They are still so enraptured with Obama they’re completely blind to their behavior as seen by much of the world. Don’t get me wrong. One can disagree with what another writes, but the opprobrium they’re heaping on Woodward is ridiculous. Rodney Graves is right. They’re acting like intolerant religious extremists.

I was thinking more along the lines of, “Stop picking on my boyfriend!”

If said “boyfriend” was a Hollywood star that they, the infatuated fan, had never actually met…
