CNN & NBC’s Close Ties to Obama, Anita Dunn, Bob Bauer and IRS Intimidation

The ongoing revelations of the intimidation of conservatives executed by Obama’s IRS and FEC agencies are still coming to light but an interesting wrinkle to the story is the close relationship between CNN and NBC/MSNBC and those inside the administration perpetrating that intimidation.

NBC/MSNBC had recently hired former White House Communications Director Anita Dunn as an on-air analyst to comment on what is going on in Washington today. CNN has also featured Dunn as a panelist from time to time. Both did so ostensibly because Dunn is one of those most involved in the Washington scene and is a major player as a K Street lobbyist.

Dunn is a key operative at the well connected SKD Knickerbocker, a DC-based campaign communications group, and is also intimately connected to many other firms and lobbying efforts.

In fact, Dunn raised eyebrows during the 2012 presidential election when it was discovered how integral she was as a consultant for firms lobbying the administration even as President Obama was then claiming, as he has claimed for years, that he was eliminating lobbyists in his administration and “changing business as usual” in DC.

At the time, some Obama campaign aides privately complained that the revelations of just how much lobbying the former White House aide was involved in made their claim that they were cleaning up Washington look like empty rhetoric.

Since joining NBC/MSNBC, Dunn became another in a long list of former White House officials turned media talkers. It has become pretty plain that the Progressive media is revolving door for Obama administration officials (and vice versa), which is bad enough, but Dunn is also closely connected to one of those involved in the intimidation of conservatives being perpetrated by the Obama administration.

Dunn, you see, is the wife of Bob Bauer, the man whose name is now connected with new revelations that the Federal Election Commission (FEC) used IRS honcho Lois Lerner as a source of information to help him launch illicit investigations of the conservative group American Issues Project.

This new story of intimidation was reported by The Wall Street Journal on August 1 and revealed that Dunn’s husband, Bob Bauer, had illicitly contacted the IRS’s Lerner to get tax information of the conservative group so that he could use it in an investigation he was pushing at the FEC.

“This matters because FEC staff didn’t have permission from the Commission to conduct this inquiry. It matters because the IRS is prohibited from sharing confidential information, even with the FEC,” the Journal pointed out.

For the FEC to informally enlist the aide of the IRS to get dirt on an opponent just isn’t legal. But Anita Dunn’s husband, Bob Bauer, did so anyway.

Yet here we have CNN and NBC/MSNBC relying on Anita Dunn for commentary on Washington, the same Anita Dunn whose husband is involved in one of the most insidious attacks on American’s First Amendment rights in ages.

Both CNN and NBC/MSNBC should alert its viewers to this connection when Anita Dunn comes on to deliver her analysis so that viewers know they are getting the opinion of someone with a lot to hide.

Why ask the media to cover up a story when you can put your own political operative in the media itself and direct no only what they say but what stories they cover in the first place. The major networks are little more than propaganda outlets for the dems. That’s why they hate FOX, it’s the only network that isn’t totally subverted by the left.

    • Brucehenry

Yes it’s a good thing that FOX, home of Dana Perrino, Karl Rove, and Bill Kristol, isn’t a propaganda outlet for anyone.

      • jim_m

Oh, you”re complaining that they tell the other side now? There is more than one side to the story. I am sure that you would prefer the so-called objective news outlets that sat on John Edwards’ affair and love child while his wife was dieing of cancer. WTF? You really do apologize for every leftist move don’t you? You really will apologize for them right up to the gulags.

      • LiberalNightmare

Interesting. Your comment attacks Fox news, but doesn’t actually argue against the charge that the major networks are “little more than propaganda outlets for the dems”.

I guess your OK with that?

        • jim_m

obviously he’s OK with that. What he is not OK with is any version other than the far left being voiced.

        • Brucehenry

Hardly an “attack.” What I’m doing here is pointing out that, if the hiring of Anita Dunn is considered evidence that NBC is a propaganda outlet for the dems, then the hiring of Rove, Perrino, and long before that, Kristol, should be considered evidence of FOX being a propaganda outfit for the Republicans.

FOX has been in business, doing what it does, for 17 years now. If I’m not mistaken it’s been the highest rated cable news network ever since the Clinton impeachment. For far longer than that, the right has dominated Talk Radio. Enough with the whining about how your “version isn’t being voiced.”

          • LiberalNightmare

            I see.

And in your second comment, you would still rather talk about Fox while avoiding the main point – the charge that the major networks are “little more than propaganda outlets for the dems”.

So, I guess your OK with that?

          • Brucehenry

God you’re a genius. I’m NOT talking about FOX I’m talking about the posture of victimhood that conservatives love to assume. The point is I didn’t hear you guys whining that FOX was a propaganda outlet when Rove, or Palin, or Perrino were hired. Why are you whining when another network hires an ex-administration official of another party?

And this poor poor us act that your viewpoint is not being voiced when you have FOX, Talk Radio, many newspapers and gazillions of wingnut websites, not to mention hundreds of “think tanks” that get their windbags on ALL the news shows, is fucking tired.

THAT’S what makes me puke, not FOX itself. Knock yourself out watching that channel. I watched FOX and Friends 15 minutes on the treadmill this morning and I could feel myself getting dumber. But it’s there for you.

          • LiberalNightmare

<< I'm NOT talking about FOX I'm talking about the posture of victimhood that conservatives love to assume.

Your not talking about the subject either – three posts and your still evading.

          • Brucehenry

The subject is whether or not it is evidence of bias when an ex-administration official is hired by a TV network. Is it? OK, then.

So where was the article griping about FOX being biased when Rove, Perrino, or Palin were hired?

See my point now, you stubborn, wrongheaded mule? Let’s see Warner explain why he wasn’t concerned about that but IS concerned about this.

Also, three posts and you still haven’t remembered the difference between your and you’re.

          • LiberalNightmare

<< The subject is whether or not it is evidence of bias when an ex-administration official is hired by a TV network. Is it? OK, then

Well, I guess its an improvement, you've moved from ignoring the subject entirely to changing the subject.

          • Brucehenry

I’m typing slowly, so try to concentrate and maybe you can understand a simple English paragraph or two.

We have a “major network” — NBC/MSNBC — hiring an ex-administration official as on-air talent. That, according to Warner and apparently, you, is evidence that NBC/MSNBC is “little more than propaganda outlets for the dems.” This is, evidently, outfuckingrageous.

But in the past 5 years, FOX — another “major network,” indeed the number one rated cable news network the entire time — hired 2 ex-administration officials and the VP nominee of the Republican party as on-air talent. Apparently, to you and Warner, this is not outrageous at all, because lamestream media yada yada. Or something.

I say apparently because I don’t recall conservatives raising a hue and cry about ex-administration officials being hired by one “major network,” but now they’re in high dudgeon because another “major network” has done so.

          • LiberalNightmare

<< We have a "major network" — NBC/MSNBC — hiring an ex-administration official as on-air talent. That, according to Warner and apparently, you, is evidence that NBC/MSNBC is "little more than propaganda outlets for the dems." This is, evidently, outfuckingrageous.

You dont seem to think so, every time it comes up, you change the subject to Fox news.

          • Brucehenry

Because it’s not outrageous for ex-administration officials to be hired as on-air talent by “major networks,”, LN. Peggy Noonan was a Reagan speechwriter. Frank Gaffney worked in the Reagan DOD. Stephanopoulos and DeeDee Myers worked for Clinton. That Scheuer guy worked in the Reagan, Bush, Clinton, and Bush administrations. Diane Sawyer started her career in the Nixon administration for God’s sake. And, again, Perrino, Rove, Kristol, and Palin.

So my reference to FOX was to illustrate the absurdity of getting all pantspissy about this latest hire. It won’t be the last time it’s done, and it’s for damn sure not the first time either.

Just so you know, it makes you look stupid to keep insisting, or rather pretending, that I’m trying to “change the subject.” Obviously I’m talking about the subject. Only an idiot could miss that.

          • LiberalNightmare

Normally, I’d keep drawing you out till you get it, or at least till you call me a racist, but I dont have that kind of time to day, so let me ‘splain it to you.

All of your posts on this subject have been nothing more than a long hand version of “the other guy does it too”.

You see, you really want to argue about it, but you know you cant get anywhere with that. So you fall back to the passive aggressive technique of making the argument that “fox does it too”.

To misqoute Dean Wormer, “passive and aggressive is no way to go thru life son.”

          • Brucehenry

I’m done arguing with a blockhead. Gonna go watch a movie, it’s too hot here to enjoy outside.

          • jim_m

It does not matter where people started their careers it matters who they carry water for now. Also, the fact is that those who most recently worked for a political administration are often found to be doing that admin’s bidding in their post admin lives. That has been correct for virtually every dem operative for the last 16 years,

          • It’s what he does when he’s got nothin…

          • jim_m

The original point being made was that every other network other than FOX is essentially a propaganda arm of the democrat party. You do not deny this, instead you point at FOX and say “You have your conservative news outlet” (meaning not necessarily that it is conservative but that it does not present the leftist side exclusively, which is the reality of the situation)

You do not want to discuss the original point made because you know that we are right.

  • Commander_Chico

On the things that matter to The Powers That Be, all networks are on the same page. Like, they were all calling for Snowden’s head. They all get on the war bandwagon when ordered.

Like one guy said on Twitter: “The USSR would have lasted a lot longer if they had two Communist parties that disagreed only on abortion.”

  • Evil as a pit of rattle snakes, ALL of them that tout the Obamanation Regime. Matt ‘Liar’ is no angel either. One thing for sure BHO wants this in the worse way, to come out of his closet and have his gay lover instead of MO in the WH. That’s next folks. He’s sick of pretending to be straight in every way. BHO wants an Islamic Queer America. O’s way off course, no way to bring the Regime back.
These Islamic Clerics are devil possessed to the max! So is the Regime.

  • Walter_Cronanty

C’mon Warner, give this story some context. You really don’t expect first rate journalism from today’s MSM do you? In addition to the personal and ideological kinship between the MSM and progressives, the inbreeding of MSM and the Obama administration has been well documented:

From ABC News President Ben Sherwood being the brother of Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall, a top national-security adviser to President Obama – to CBS’ news division president David Rhodes being the brother of Benjamin Rhodes, a key foreign-policy specialist – to CNN’s deputy Washington bureau chief, Virginia Moseley being married to Tom Nides, who until earlier this year was deputy secretary of state under Hillary Rodham Clinton – to White House press secretary Jay Carney’s wife being Claire Shipman, a veteran reporter for ABC – to NPR’s White House correspondent, Ari Shapiro being married to a lawyer, Michael Gottlieb, who joined the White House counsel’s office in April.

This incestuous relationship has bred the worst “journalism” I have ever witnessed. I used to teach 1st Amendment Rights at the local law school. During the last 6-7 years, the largely pro-progressive/pro-Obama Administration propaganda our MSM “journalists” have tried to pass off to the general populace is the antithesis of what the 1st Amendment was meant to protect. I think this answers the question of why the left has become the greatest danger to the 1st Amendment – they’re in power and they will do anything, including destroying the 1st Amendment, to stay there.

  • When the media is used to cover how the current administration is handling the government, there’s no point in watching the show. So please, don’t make a transparent show Ms. Dunn!
