‘Mother Jones’ Suddenly Notices The Cult of Obama

Kevin Drum of the hard left magazine Mother Jones is shocked to have found that there really is a cult of Obama out there.

In an August 19 blog post headlined The Great Emo-Prog vs. O-Bot Debate, Drum was absolutely flabbergasted to find that there really are people who imagine that Obama is the coming of the messiah.

“I’ve long been skeptical of the idea that Obama has a core group of supporters from 2008 who really do consider him The One, a shining beacon of light who can do no wrong. But I’m the one who was wrong,” Drum wrote ruefully.

But Drum has found to his amazement that there really are people who will call you any manner of names, assume you are a racist, and claim you aren’t a real leftist with even the slightest criticism of the Obammessiah.

Drum also complained that,

If you express anything short of absolute condemnation of everything the NSA has done, your Twitter feed quickly fills up with hysterical proclamations from the emo-progs that you’re a right-wing shill, a government lackey, a useful idiot for the slave state, and an obvious fool. Conversely, if you criticize the NSA’s surveillance programs, your Twitter feed quickly fills up with equally hysterical proclamations from the O-Bots that you hate Obama, you’ve always hated Obama, and you’re probably a racist swine who’s been waiting ever since 2009 for a chance to take down the nation’s first black president.

Over at National Review’s The Corner blog, Charles W,. Cooke jokes, “welcome to my world.”

“Just so as you know, this rule goes also for Obamacare, the economy, foreign policy, firearms law, and absolutely every other area of public policy,” Cooke writes. “I have been called a ‘racist’ for so long now that I’m almost looking forward to a Hillary presidency so that I can be called a ‘sexist’ instead.”

The good news is Cooke will soon get his wish, lol.

Must have gone a couple of days without inhaling.

This really isn’t surprising. Like all liberal idiots in the media (BIRM, 3x) Drum lacks education, experience, common sense, smarts and basic perceptive abilities. It’s the loopiest demographic out there, save perhaps for washed up Hippies still on university campuses and for government clerical workers. Reality always “shocks” and dismays these numbskulls. They’re pod peoople. Useful idiots. True political cannon fodder.

    • Yeah, the ‘reality-based’ chorus seem to have this idea that reality is what they say it is, no matter what.

I wouldn’t say Drum lacks education and common sense, though. I do think that long ago he fell victim to the thinking that because HE believes something, it’s automatically how things are. (Had long discussion on his pre-MJ board re Bush’s ANG record – just because I was a personnel specialist handling things like that, and knew rules, regs, and customary practices for points recording didn’t mean I actually knew what I was talking about. They didn’t have a clue, and didn’t need one from someone who actually knew the subject – they were happy with what they thought they knew.)

You gotta keep testing your assumptions. Sounds like one of his got snapped.

As I understand it, Bush wasn’t in the Air National Guard. Indeed … he was sent to prison by a military court for a crime he didn’t commit.

Today, George W. Bush is still wanted by the government … and he’s got a whole team …

        • Lol…

          • JWH

I wonder who did the one downvote. Seriously, if you don’t like the Enterprise crew as the A-Team, you’re un-American.

  • Those clue-by-four’s hurt when you’re not expecting them, don’t they?

  • Commander_Chico

Yeah, this NSA thing has exposed a lot of left-authoritarians. Of course there are a lot of right-authoritarians supporting spying on Americans, too.

    • But not exactly in a position to make a 1984’s fetishist’s dreams become reality.

What’s funny is that when folks objected to the right doing anything remotely resembling what’s going on now, it was all “Oh how DARE they! It must be stopped!”

But now – fuckin’ crickets, with the occasional ‘Oh, well, yeah, maybe they went a little too far, but… BUSH, DAMMIT! LOOK! A SQUIRREL!’

5 years in – and the most hardcore supporters are starting to waver. Oh, Obama’s going to be a historical President all right. But there’s all sorts of ways to be historical…

      • Commander_Chico

You are right – there is hypocrisy. That’s what Drum was writing about.

But it’s only a matter of an election, and the script will flip. There will be a Republican president again, and unless it’s one of the Pauls or Justin Amash, probably of an authoritarian tendency. Then all of the neocons will come out full force again.

The Democrats or Republicans are not parties of freedom, just parties of interests.

If people like you had voted for someone that could have actually beaten Obama we might have already turned the corner. You seem to think that throwing your vote away sends some sort of message. It doesn’t it’s masturbation, if you and the other knuckleheads like you had voted against Obama (not for Romney) you might have actually sent a message. Screw up and you’re a one term Jimmy Carter. Ignoring reality doesn’t make it go away.

          • jim_m

Chico voted so he could be assured that obama would remain in power and that he would also have the ability to pose as someone that opposes obama.

Chico hardly ever criticizes Dear Leader and when he does that criticism is tepid at best and is always followed immediately with why the republicans are 1) to blame and 2) worse anyways.

Commissar Chico is a poseur and an apologist for the left wing tyranny that he in reality supports.

          • Jwb10001

I have to chuckle every time Chico pipes up about changing things. He has no interest in changing things, as you said, it seems to all be about setting himself up to mouth off on Wizbang.

          • Commander_Chico

I know you’re butthurt because I didn’t vote for Romney, but Romney did suck worse than Obama, at least as far as you can tell with Romney.

From the way Romney was talking, if he was president now, we’d be balls deep in Syria and probably bombing Iran, too.

Plus the NSA would be doing the same things they’re doing now, but Romney would bring torture back as official policy.

          • So that’s what you tell yourself…

          • Hawk_TX

We already are involved in Syria. Through U.S. aid we have financed and supplied weapons without which the rebels would of been defeated long ago. Top news now is “U.S. naval forces are moving closer to Syria as President Barack Obama considers military options…”

So your argument really amounts to saying that you didn’t vote for Romney because he would of done what Obama is doing.

You seem to be very confused.

          • Commander_Chico

Well, that’s why I didn’t vote for Obama either – his crew of warmongering women like the well-named duo, Power and Slaughter.

          • Jwb10001

I’m not at all butt hurt there Bruce Jr. you can do what ever you want. I’m simply pointing out how completely ridiculous you are.

          • Commander_Chico

“Screw up and you’re a one term Jimmy Carter. ”

Yet you undoubtedly voted for Bush, the most flaming fuck-up ever, in 2004

          • Rdmurphy42

Carter and Obama have been president, thus your statement is self evidentially false. Bush, for all his faults, doesn’t come even remotely close to being in the same zip code of as bad as those were … And the alternatives were a: Gore and B: Kerry, who would have been quite possibly WORSE.

          • Jwb10001

No you see you vote for John Anderson or that Ross lunitic, or Ron Paul or Gary Johnson that’s how you change things. Chico acts like some starry eye 22 year old that thinks the guy that has no chance is the only guy worth voting for, you know stick it to the man, man!

          • Considering the source, that’s high praise!

          • Jwb10001

That’s your opinion and you’re welcome to it. I did vote for Bush twice I’m not the least bit ashamed of it.

          • alanstorm

Bush, the most flaming fuck-up ever? Not since January 2009.

          • BillA

It’s not like the Democrats gave us much of a choice after they went and selected Kerry. I am pretty much a libertarian-leaning conservative, and Bush was not, and I was angry enough to vote for a solid democratic moderate. One who wasn’t a lying traitor.
