MSNBC: So Stupid That They Say Sarah Palin’s Christmas Trees Are ‘Un-Christian’

This is what happens when liberals try to use religion to sell their hate for conservatives. They are so unfamiliar with the Bible and Christianity that they end up boloxing the whole thing up. This is what MSNBC did when trying to use the Bible against what the cabler said was Sarah Palin’s “un-Christian” Christmas trees.

During the December 26 broadcast of the lamentable Ed Show on MSNBC, substitute hostette and resident numbskull Joy Reid thought she had a great way to attack Sarah Palin.

For her “Pretenders” segment, Reid showed some video of Palin and family around their Christmas tree and used that as a vehicle to attack. All these Christmas trees, Reid noted, were un-Christian and so, Palin is a hypocrite.

“In ‘Pretenders’ tonight, a merry Palin Christmas. Sarah Palin dropped by Fox & Friends to promote her manifesto on Christmas purity,” Reid blubbered. “She brought a treat better than Christmas cookies–family photos.”

After the video of Palin and her Christmas tree, Reid took to scolding Palin for her hypocrisy.

“Not so fast, Palin,” this halfwit blurted out. “We learned some important lessons on Monday about all the arbor activity in those pictures. I even had to break out the good book, not hers of course.”

Then this illiterate dunce told us what she thinks the Bible says and what it means for its condemnation of Christmas trees.

REID: Certain parts of the Bible also appear to preach against let’s say, I don’t know, Christmas trees. Here’s Jeremiah 10-10, it reads:

“For the practices of the peoples are worthless; they cut a tree out of the forest, and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel. They adorn it with silver and gold; they fasten it with hammer and nails so it will not totter. Like a scarecrow in a cucumber field, their idols cannot speak; they must be carried because they cannot walk. Do not fear them; they can do no harm nor can they do any good.”

REID: Now, a Christmas purist wouldn’t want to stray from the Bible on Christmas, would she? Everyone celebrates Christmas in their own special way. That could mean being tree-side with the family or even profiting off your [cause?] and commercialism. But if Sarah Palin wants us to believe there’s only one true meaning of Christmas, she can keep on pretending.

Oh, gosh, oh that darned old, hypocritical, Palin. The horrors!

Only, one problem. The Bible doesn’t say a thing about Christmas trees.

In fact, there was no such thing as a Christmas tree in biblical times. The Christmas tree was invented by Europeans thousands of years after the days of Jesus.

But, even a fair reading of that Bible passage shows that the thing that the Bible is condemning is the carving of trees into idols that are then worshipped. No body worships a Christmas tree!

A Christmas tree is just a festive decoration and has nothing to do with religion.

Further, no serious religious authority accepts Reid’s reading of the Bible. Newsbusters found that both Grace Communion and BillyGraham.org warn Christians not to think that the Book of Jeremiah is attacking Christmas trees.

So, what happened here on MSNBC? Only that neither Joy Reid, nor any of the editors, writers, or producers at the Ed Show are familiar enough with the Bible to understand that their attempt to needle Palin as un-Christian was a failed, stupid attempt.

Like all liberals, religion is an utter mystery to the folks at MSNBC.

Total morons.

This is almost too spectacularly idiotic to believe – except that it was on MSNBC, where there are no limits either to their hosts’ stupidity or to the lengths they’ll go to attack Sarah Palin.

    • 914

No they just troll around like you and show how full of hate they are

      • jim_m

Don’t feed the troll. This one is actually dangerous.

    • Tom Kelly

Every “news” station in the entire world ( I am not kidding) with the exception Fox News bashes Sarah Palin. Show me one! CBN does not count.

  • Lawrence Westlake

The real scary thing is that when non-voting conservatives deign to send their messages or to prove their points they cast de facto ballots for people like Joy Reid to be in charge of the entire country. Postulate that for a few moments.

    • jim_m

Ponder for a moment that Larry was one of the very few people that Shawn’s Mom didn’t disagree with. Hmmmmmmm.

    • Commander_Chico

    • jim_m

As if to prove your point, here comes Shawns Mom, who if you bother to look at her profile, seems to travel the internet seeking out sites where she can smear Sarah Palin. I think Shawns Mom needs some serious therapy. I will also be waiting for the resident hypocrites, Chico and Bruce, to call her out for calling Palin a coward.

      • Brucehenry

No need for me to “call out” a clearly crazy person. I’m no Palin fan but geez, Mom, give it a rest! Unfunny and pathetic.

        • jim_m

don’t be harsh. She is just showing us what a typical lefty is like. There really isn’t much of a difference from Chico.

          • Commander_Chico

Chico does not care about Sarah Palin’s Christmas tree, and didn’t even know who Joy Reid was.

        • jim_m

Apparently she is claiming to be the mother of Shawn Christie, the 21 YO Pennsylvania man sentenced to 2 years for stalking Palin. Pity she didn’t get locked up too. She might have then received some much needed therapy and medication.

        • jim_m

I disagree. I find her both funny and pathetic. I find her almost as entertaining as Pete the linguist.

Christians steal everything and they stole the practice of bringing in evergreen trees during the time of late December and decorating with them. The idea of evergreen trees and boughs in one’s home originated with pagan festivals (Yule, Solstice, Saturnalia), but, fortunately, the Christians re-purposed that tradition and in the 16th century, lo and behold Christmas trees just for Christians were born! I’m sure Sarah has the Christian variety and not the pagan one, don’t worry.

    • LiberalNightmare

Since she quit her post in Alaska, Palin hasn’t run for public office but still plays the part of politician who calls her constituents “fans.” What exactly does she do other than essentially proposition her self and image to the highest bidder? Sounds like Sarah is America’s highest paid escort! See how down and dirty she’ll get for the money at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2011/06/ecstasy-of-sarah-palin_15.html

    • Commander_Chico

Seems like you’re getting “down and dirty for the money,” since you’re flogging your trite and vulgar “art” on your website.

I’m not a fan of Palin. I voted against McCain even though I admired him, because I did not trust McCain to live or Palin with the nuclear codes. I’m glad I voted that way, because McCain has since degenerated into a deranged warmonger who I wouldn’t trust with the nuclear codes now, and Palin hasn’t grown into a real leader. But Palin’s a sideshow now and not deserving of the hatred. Thanks for the swimsuit video!

  • Tom Kelly

You might be right About Christmas trees. But I wanna read direct quotes of Jesus Christ. That’s right spell out four direct quotes attributable directly to Jesus Christ. No hear-say. Just four direct quotes, Betcha can’t do it. You betcha!!!

    • jim_m

You could crack open a Bible and read a Gospel. But if you are going to object and say that those are not direct because those are only indirect quotes from other people, then I challenge you to furnish a single quote from Julius Caesar where he has written it down in his own hand.

You will find no more proof that Julius Caesar did or said anything attributed to him yet I suspect that you are far more willing to believe in that than you are anything attributed to Christ. That’s OK, just don’t go claiming that your bias is proof of anything. It isn’t.

You can play that game with just about anyone of significance from prior to 100AD. Most writings are of disputed attribution or are agreed that they were written by someone else but the words attributed to the famous person. The problem of course being that few documents survive from such a long time ago and what we have are copies of copies so there is nothing actually written by the hand of Julius Caesar.

    • Vagabond661

Why would I need to find direct quotes from Jesus Christ? To quote Hillary: “What difference – at this point, what difference does it make?”

  • Allen

All you conservatives are people who destroy destroy America. Everything you have said or done has effected people since the start of America from slavery to probation to civil rights. All you conservatives made this happen. No one else.

    • jim_m

You’re right. We should not have ended slavery, we should have let the dems keep it or at least when the dems formed the Confederacy we should have left them alone (the confederate government was 100% democrat). We should also have not supported the Civil Rights act in far greater percentages than the dems did. A country without equal rights would have been so much better.

Go ahead and continue being an ignorant moron. You are quite entertaining.

      • Brucehenry

You know exactly how dishonest it is to pretend that 150 years ago, Democrats=liberal in the modern sense and Republicans=conservative in the modern sense. It has been pointed out to you many times yet every time it comes up you try to pull it again.

If you want to talk about shameful behavior by a political party in the 19th century, don’t forget how Republicans betrayed and abandoned the freed black folk of the former Confederacy in the stolen election of 1876. Look it up, Mr History.

If it hadn’t been for the compromise with the former slaveholding.aristocracy to withdraw Federal troops from the rebel states, Jim Crow would never, COULD never, have been implemented. But Republicans wanted to win that election to distribute the graft — “to the victor belong the spoils.” So they sold out the freed blacks and returned the state governments to the old powers-that-be, as it were. The election, which had been thrown to an “Electoral Commission,” (even though it appears that Democrat Tilden had actually won) went to Hayes with the connivance of the white Democrats who wanted Federal troops withdrawn so they could reimpose, as closely as possible, the old order of things — white men in charge, black folks in subjugation.

        http://www.authentichistory.com/1865-1897/1-reconstruction/4-1876election/compromise_of_1877.html

        • Hawk_TX

Are you joking? Your example of how bad Republicans were is to point out that they didn’t stop Democrats.

          • Brucehenry

Not a joke at all to the millions of black people who were practically re-enslaved because they were betrayed by the political party they had relied upon, and who had promised, to protect them. They were under no illusions about what the Democrats would do if they regained power — which, thanks to the compromise that enabled the theft of the election, they promptly did.

My point, as always when discussing this period with dishonest Republicans, is that the modern reality of Democrats=liberal/Republicans=conservative, was not the extant reality of the period. So when Jim says “the Confederacy was 100% Democrat,” that is both true and also irrelevant to today’s reality. As he well knows. And as do you, sir.

Jim and others are forever talking about the Democrats of 1865-1885 as if the blame for the shameful history of that period was theirs alone. I use this episode to illustrate it was not.

          • jim_m

See my comment above. It is completely relevant as the left has changed so very little.

          • Brucehenry

            See mine

        • jim_m

Bruce I honestly believe that liberals are every bit as racist today as they were 150 years ago. The only difference is that they have learned to cloak their desires for segregation in the language of tolerance and they disguise their prejudice that blacks cannot achieve like whites in terms of affirmative action and ‘fairness’.

Nothing has changed except for the veneer that you use. The substance underneath remains as it ever was.

          • Brucehenry

No you don’t. You pretend that the Dems of 150 years ago were “liberal” in the same sense that post-1972 Dems are as a rhetorical trick because you think every conversation is a “debate” to be “won” or “lost.” And you don’t mind employing the same old tired dirty tricks to “win.”

            It’s tiresome.

          • jim_m

The belief in communist ideology has been added to the basic racialist philosophy that has not changed. Some things have changed, much has remained the same.

Despite your desire to paper over the racism found in the left by bringing up halfhearted excuses of how Republicans failed to stop the dems in their racism, I don’t think that anyone will be persuaded.

Tiresome is your refusal to see the racialist dogma that infuses every inch of left wing ideology.

          • Brucehenry

OK whatever you say just remember that whenever I see you dishonestly conflating modern liberalism with racist Southern Democrats of 1865 (or for that matter the racist Southern Democrats of 1965) I’m gonna point it out.

          • jim_m

Go right head and remind everyone that the same dems that were around in 1860 were still here in 1960 and then tell everyone that they aren’t here anymore that they suddenly changed and it has been the GOP all along that has been racist.

Only your ignorant ideologue lefty friends will buy that crap.

          • Brucehenry

            Really so hard to believe?

The Dems who were in charge of the South in 1860 were born in 1810. The Dems in charge of the South in 1960 were born in 1910. The Dems who were in charge in 1960 have been dead for 30 years.

And everybody here knows I have no friends, lefty or otherwise, lol.

          • jim_m

The dems born in 1910 were raise by the people born in the reconstruction South. The dems in 1960 were raised by the people who fought to keep segregation and Jim Crow. Those are the dems today, the children of Jim Crow. They haven’t changed, they have only learned to cover their racism better by using things like affirmative action to cover for their core belief that blacks are too stupid and lazy to be the equal of whites.

          • Brucehenry

Not that many white Democrats in the South today, Jim. Who are the white children of the 1960s Democrats voting for nowadays you reckon?

            In the South, I mean.

          • jim_m

There might be more if they would stop aborting their children.

          • Brucehenry

See, you can’t have a conversation, you gotta “score points” using your keyboard as some kind of rapier or something.

I know, some of these are jokes…abortion jokes. Hur hur.

          • jim_m

I do not pretend, as you do, that whites are a monolithic block of voters. As it stands blacks are only about 1/4th of the population of southern states, so there are still a very large number of southern white democrats. Who do you think runs the party down there? You don’t think the dems would let a black man run the party? It’s OK to have a figurehead in the WH but he is surrounded by whites. Look at his campaign offices. They make MSNBC look integrated.

No the dems are like the quintessential Philadelphia liberals, Randolph and Mortimer Duke. It’s OK for a little while but never let them have real control. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSPjhQQpqLE

          • Brucehenry

Yes reality is an Eddie Murphy movie.

All I know is what I live, dude. I live here. I’m practically the only white Democrat I know.

I also wonder if you have thought through your assertion that there are still a “very large number” of white Democrats. If the 25% of the population who is black votes monolithically for Dems, as they do, it seems that it would only take an equal number of white voters to be Dems for the Dems to win elections in the South. Since the Dems typically DO NOT win elections in the South anymore, it would seem that the number of whites who vote Democrat is something less than 25%, doesn’t it?

          • LiberalNightmare

Is it as tiresome as blaming the republicans of today for what the democrats of 150 yrs ago did?

    • Hank_M

“Everything you have said or done has effected people since the start of America from slavery to probation to civil rights.”

      Probation?

You’re an excellent argument for home schooling.

      • jim_m

I think he meant prohibition, but then prohibition was a progressive cause and not a conservative one. In fact with everything he cites, the problem is caused not by conservatives but by democrats and progressives. Everything he thinks is evil is actually a facet of the left but he is too stupid to realize it.

        • LiberalNightmare

“Your not smart enough to be a liberal!” said no one, ever.

  • Joseph Meyer

I’m afraid there seems to be plenty of stupid to go around here. “The Christmas tree was invented by Europeans thousands of years after the days of Jesus.” ? That would be, uh, now. Or later.

    • jim_m

Yep and a couple hundred years of tradition means that it is just as much a Christian symbol today as anything else. Funny that when the left wants to ban Christmas they think about banning Christmas trees, yet when they want to criticize Christians they want to claim that Christmas trees have nothing to do with Christmas.

      Hateful, ignorant hypocrites all.

  • tiredofdogma

How about some old fashioned detente. The left eliminates MSNBC, the right eliminates Fox News, and the world becomes a safer place for all.

    • http://wizbangblog.com/author/rodney-graves/ Rodney G. Graves

While the establishment GOP might go for that, trading the #1 Cable News Outlet (FOX) for MSNBC (the lowest viewership Cable News Outlet) would seem rather stupid.

  • KenWD

I really don’t have the words to describe such stupidity. For her sake I think we should try. What the Bible was actually talking about was the futility of idol worship. And yes Elizabeth there is a real meaning to Christmas. It is the celebration of the Birth of Christ, our Lord and Savior. Oh well. I tried.

  • http://www.outsidethebeltway.com rodney dill

While there is certainly not much that is Christian about Christmas trees, there is certainly not much that is anti-Christian either (which seems to be the context for un-Christian here.) Granted X-mas trees have a pagan origin, but were adopted by Christians as a tradition, and continue largely via populations that are or were significantly Christian in practice. Some Christian have also attached the green X-mas trees to be a sign of new life either through Christ or symbolic of the birth of Christ. This is kind of an after the fact repurposing of the trees from their pagan origins, and still doesn’t have much to do with the Christian beliefs of Christmas to my way of thinking..

Trees are now used by either secular or religious peoples for celebrating the Christmas season. I’m unsure how much X-mas trees have extended to being used by peoples that were not largely Christian in practice in the past, but there probably are some.

The Jeremiah verse, from context, isn’t even about Christmas trees, but about the creation of idols to worship as a gods. (I’m not sure I’ve ever heard about someone chiseling a Christmas tree to shape it, and no, I don’t think that cutting the base to fit in a stand would count as this). So unless Palin or anyone else actually starts worshiping an X-mas tree itself, I doubt she or anyone else has much to worry about.

The segment is so absurd I suspected it to be a tongue in cheek mocking of Palin, by Reid, but it really seems to miss its mark.

(…and my Christmas tree will stay up and decorated until Little Christmas)
