What We’ve Come To: When A Congresswoman Doesn’t Know What Congress Does

Democrat Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee from Texas thinks it is the job of Congress to write a President’s Executive Orders. Apparently she doesn’t “get” that Obama is in the executive branch (hence the “executive” part of the Executive Orders) and she is in the legislative branch.

Jackson Lee made these ill-informed comments during a January 29 press conference ostensibly to tout the Democrat’s Full Employment Caucus (what ever that is supposed to mean).

As she spoke, Jackson Lee claimed that she hoped that Congress could “give President Obama a number of executive orders that he can sign.”

Pushing the new “caucus” she went on saying, “We will be answering the call of all of America because people need work and we’re not doing right by them by creating work. She went on saying, “I believe this caucus will put us on the right path and we’ll give President Obama a number of executive orders that he can sign with pride and strength.”

“n fact,” Jackson Lee bumbled onward, “I think that should be our number one agenda. Let’s write up these executive orders, draft them of course – and ask the president to stand with us on full employment.”

Of course, Congress doesn’t write Executive Orders. You see, the “executive” part of that name places it in the executive–or the president’s–branch of government.

Worse, if Congress were to start writing the President’s executive orders, they’d be circumventing their own role in our government by skipping voting, skipping the legislative process, and bypassing our system.

Jackson Lee seems to be a very stupid person. It may seem dismissible to state that so openly, but this is just the latest in a long string of stupid comments that is more proof than my just saying it.

Full employment??? That is a laugh.

  • jim_m

And economist will tell you that in a free society there can never be full employment because there is always someone between jobs.

What the dems are saying is that they really want a totalitarian dictatorship where the government controls all business and also controls all workers, a government that can tell you where you will work, what you will do, and how much you will be paid for doing it.

We can dispense with any questions of whether the left believes in individual liberty. They clearly believe that you are property of the government. Welcome to slavery, 21st century version.

Of course, Lee is out of synch with the administration which today claimed that unemployment = freedom, whilst denigrating “freedom” as a mere “buzzword”.

So we see that having a job so you can support yourself and your family is slavery. Freedom is being dependent upon an intrusive and controlling government. And “freedom” is ultimately an empty concept used by conservatives to delude the masses.

    War is Peace
    Freedom is Slavery
    Ignorance is Strength

Come on Todd! It’s Sheila Jackson Lee. You didn’t really expect anything intelligent to come out of her mouth, did you?

Somewhere, George Orwell is laughing his ass off!

If someone had wrapped Orwell’s corpse in copper wire he’d be spinning so fast you could light the city of New York with him.

The surreal irony is that Jackson Lee isn’t even the dumbest Democrat in Congress. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz makes Jackson Lee look like Stephen Hawking and Barbara Lee makes Jackson Lee look like Aristotle. Of course if Cynthia McKinney still were around she’d be the undisputed champ of stupid. All part and parcel of the big decline.

My vote goes for the guy who thought Guam was going to capsize due to putting too many marines on it.

It’s in the water in that part of Georgia. Hank Johnson is in Cynthia McKinney’s old seat in Congress.

And she keeps on getting re-elected, any wonder why we’re in the mess were in?
