Obama Forcing the Closure of Fast Food Outlets on Military Bases

Four restaurants, three of which are McDonald’s, have closed down on several military bases and a host of other outlets, like Pizza Huts, are also saying they will soon be closing their shops. These closures will seriously damage the quality of life for our soldiers on our military bases and it is all thanks to Barack Obama’s policies.

The shocking report from the Military Times has several Republican lawmakers alarmed that the quality of life on our military bases will be diminished thanks to Obama’s meddling.

According the MT, several other contractors who operate restaurants and other small businesses on military bases “have asked to be released from their Army and Air Force Exchange Service contracts to operate fast food restaurants at two other installations.”

So, what is going on, here? Why are all these small outlets closing? Well, it is thanks to Obama’s Executive Order that all minimum wage workers be given a raise to $10.10 per hour (up from $7.25). That on top of Obama’s decree that such businesses pay more for healthcare and that they pay a $3.81 per hour “health and welfare” benefit is also making these businesses close their doors.

“At the end of the day, there will be fewer jobs,” an industry source told Military Times. “And for [the contractors] who stick it out, there will be higher costs and the customers will pay more.”

The fact is, Obama has just made sure these companies cannot afford to operate on military bases. This foreshadows what would happen in the greater society, too.

The situation is getting so bad that the military is pleading with Washington to carve out some exceptions for our soldiers.

In a letter to the Department of Labor, deputy assistant secretary of the Navy for military manpower and personnel Russell Beland, asked for relief for these businesses.

“Given the business model typical in the fast food industry, this increase in the cost of labor dramatically disrupts the profitability and viability of food service operators” on military bases, Beland wrote. “The increased labor burden resulting from the new [wage structure] eliminates any profit the operator might otherwise realize and puts him in an impossible business dilemma.”

Beland warned that nearly 400 small businesses will close their doors on military bases because of Obama’s meddling.

40 Republican members of the House Armed Services and Education and Workforce committees also wrote a letter to the Dept. of Labor demanding that these hikes in costs be mitigated.

It isn’t likely that Obama will do anything about this, though. Obama could not care less if our soldiers find a lower quality of life.

Obama doesn’t give a damn about the consequences of his actions and he definetely doesn’t give a damn about our military.
Even if 400 businesses close on military bases, Obama will happily lie and explain how much raising the minimum wage helped and the MSM will support him all the way.

What the hell does this have to do with the job? Not a damn thing.. This clown needs to be terminated and prosecuted period.

hmmm…maybe Moochelle “Hips” Obama can create a menu program for the military. It was such a success for the schools.

The dems have already made it clear that they would rather that people be on welfare than work.

Don’t forget that many of the employees at these restaurants are spouses or dependents of military personnel trying to add to the family income. Sometimes even off-duty service members too. This will make it harder for the military families. I was on a Navy base the other day and remarked that it was nice to have Panda Bowl, Subway and other vendors there, rather that an repeat of the mess hall chow we used to see.

I detect Michelle’s fine hand ( and spacious behind) behind this! Old enough to die for your country but not old enough to know whether or not fast food is good for you?
Maybe you could do for the military what you’ve done to make school lunches unpalatable, Shelly?

After Huston’s sabbaticial and time off for a rethink- Welcome back- We are treated to a March 17 dated article, ‘Some fast food outlets closing on military bases..New federal wage rules may be factor, sources say’

If your are still indignant, you may want to update the post to include the April 18th Military Times / Army Time article ‘On-base fast food outlets get temporary reprieve from new wage rules’ http://www.armytimes.com/article/20140418/BENEFITS07/304180061/

It doesn’t bother you that these businesses need an exemption to keep their doors open? Idiot!

What do you think will happen to the economy as a whole if the $10.10 minimum wage gets passed? Do you really think the businesses will eat the extra expense not too mention 0bamaCare costs?

“Living Wage” is such BS. Get better skills, work hard, apply yourself and you won’t be making minimum wage for long.

What do you think will happen to the economy as a whole if the $10.10 minimum wage gets passed?

Maybe it will spur demand and make the economy grow. The middle class is being destroyed in America.

Ron Unz has been making the case for a higher minimum wage.

He makes no case for a higher minimum wage other than stating he proposed a $12 minimum wage. No facts, no numbers, no nothing. Paraphrase: “Germany has higher wages and a higher standard of living.” How much higher is the cost of living? Taxes: Higher or lower? Population? Illegals in Germany? How is the welfare system handled there?
About all a $10.10/hr minimum wage would do would insure employment for illegals at a lower hourly wage.
And before you say “Make them legal!” all legalizing them would do would increase the demand for more illegals to cross the border to take the jobs. (I get this just means even more Democrat voters, so it is a good thing in your eyes.)
Send home 20 million illegals and how many jobs would be opened up? How many employers would have to pay more for local labor, because they can’t (or at least it is harder) to pay under the table (cash).

    The Socialist song.

We have asked business to do the right thing, to provide a living wage and basic healthcare to the least paid of our working population. It is up to them. If they won’t do these minimal things to give prosperity a chance, then BLAME THEM, BLAME THE CAPTALISTS.

We would be happy to run the country down to the smallest detail and provide a job to all with a living income. If you want this, then VOTE FOR US.

In a short while, you won’t have to vote for us again, because we will be running things for the long run. Even if there are short term problems, in 50 to 100 years, our plans will merge to provide the society you always wanted. DO IT FOR THE CHILDREN.

Your small sacrifices now will make a glorious future possible. Don’t live for your next restaurant meal, new car, or bigger apartment. LIVE FOR THE FUTURE.

We will be with you all the way.

(Why do people with the slightest street smarts believe this?)
