Wanted: A Father for Fathers Day

Dear America, a father is needed.

He should be strong of will, stout of heart, and serious in demeanor. He must love without being effusive. And above all he must lead by example. He must have a soft spot for his daughters and tough hand with his sons. He must love his wife and family more than his own comforts because he understands that the duties he accepted are more important than momentary amusements.

We want a man that will growl when their sons step out of line, the kind of fellows young boys don’t want to cross not necessarily out of fear, but because they are loath to disappoint the old man. Give us a man who will happily show his gun collection to his daughter’s first boy friend. Let us have the man who those boyfriends can’t imagine calling anything other than “sir.”

Unfortunately, he is exactly the sort of man that liberals have targeted for elimination. Liberals hate words like maturity, protectiveness, patriarchy, and manliness.

Liberals celebrate backwards ball cap wearing, video game playing, punks who still want to act like they are 19 when they are nearing the 30s. Little boys who just want to have toys, see movies, go to concerts and jump into bed with what ever sort of woman strikes their fancy, the sort of man child who won’t think past a beer run planned for the weekend.

These are the kind of “men” that leave children alone with a woman struggling to survive. But they are just the kind liberals love because they leave human wreckage everywhere they go, people that big daddy government can rescue with big government programs and, naturally, more power for Democrats.

So, don’t give us Obama Pajama Boys. Forget their meterosexuals. We’ll take a pass on their “coexist” bumper stickers and their gutless Priuses.

We don’t want your Brad Pitts, your Phil Dunphys, your Charlie Sheens or your Zac Efrons.

Give us Hugh Beaumont, Father Knows Best, let’s have more like John Wayne and Robert Mitchum, please?

But whatever you do, give us real men who have a sense of morality. The country is in desperate need of them.

Yeah we need good conservative fathers like these guys:

BTW Phil Dunphy and Ward Cleaver are fictional characters. John Wayne was thrice, I believe, divorced and did not have custody of his children. Robert Mitchum was arrested for pot possession LONG before smoking pot was cool. Not sure why you think Brad Pitt is a bad father. Is Zac Efron a father at all?

It would be interesting to see a poll of your commenters. How many are divorced and/or non-custodial dads and how many, like me, have been married for a quarter-century or more to the same woman and have raised loving, responsible children?

    • jim_m

The point, asshole, was the portrayal of father figures and male role models has become one of denigration and ridicule. Men are now only 40% of college students because we no longer encourage young men to scholastic achievement. In fact, we have organized our schools from kindergarten on up to discourage boys from achieving ad we have made normal boy behavior something that should be medicated out of them.

The point was that what the left promotes is not what society needs. It wasn’t about anecdotal incidents of who was a good father or not.

      • Brucehenry

I don’t see that point made, at least not well made, in the article. Seemed like an excuse for tired old liberal-bashing to me.

But I’ll agree that media portrayals of fathers in particular and men in general is pretty sad.

If I see one more commercial where a henpecked husband cowers when his wife asks him if he ate the last Yoplait, or another portrayal of men as beer-guzzling, chain saw loving, clueless football fanatics who care about nothing but a green lawn and fooling their wives into some please-please-pretty-please sex, I think I might scream.

But however “the left” portrays fathers it’s up to the fathers themselves to do what’s right. For generations women were portrayed negatively in the media, as silly buffoons and schemers like Lucy Ricardo, or manipulative sirens like Joan Collins in Dynasty, or airheaded bimbos like Jayne Mansfield, yet women somehow managed to make progress. I’m pretty sure boys will be OK if everyone just chills the fuck out lol.

        • jim_m

So you are complaining that there was a range of women portrayed in the media as opposed to a pretty uniform portrayal of men today.

No. Boys will not be OK because we are losing a generation that has learned that they cannot succeed academically, that in order to do so they must be like a girl. They have learned that college is too dangerous for a male to attend because it is too easy for a girl to make unsubstantiated charges of sexual assault and get you kicked out. The have learned that their normal behavior is considered aberrant and they have learned that men are expected to be low achievers, and too stupid to be decent role models.

          • Brucehenry

Yes it’s the End Of Western Civilization thanks to the liberal media. Bwahahahahahahaha.

“The media” is a bunch of privately-owned businesses, giving the public what they think the public wants. If you don’t like what you’re being fed, you have options in the modern world. If enough people turn away from portrayals of men as buffoons and slackers, the media will present them another way. Kind of like how there used to be an Amos ‘n’ Andy TV show and then later there was the Cosby show.

Why do you hate the Invisible Hand of the Free Market, Jim?

          • jim_m

You think that Hollywood gives the public what they want? Get real. The movies that on average make the biggest money are all rated G. Hollywood spews out very few of those but makes countless R rated films.

Hollywood doesn’t go after the most lucrative market because they can make money making crap films and they are subsidized by federal tax breaks to do so. They also are allowed to employ deceptive accounting measures to claim that they do not turn a profit.

Hollywood is a distorted market and not a good example of a free market.

          • Brucehenry

Unlike the oil market I suppose.

          • jim_m

Neither is the oil market but it is better. And let’s not even get started on dairy products.

[edit]The problem with the Hollywood film market is that it is not a regular market because it is very ideologically driven

          • Brucehenry

            Agreed

EDIT: See that’s why you shouldn’t edit a comment after it’s been replied to, Jim.

My edit was complete before you posted your response. Told you that you needed to learn to type faster.

You’ll have to excuse bwoocie. He is the perfect example of the end of western civilization. A lover of oppressive govt, an excuser of Islamic terror, a hater of US history…. him and his ilk are killing not just the country, but civilization itself.

          • Brucehenry

And, you forget, a correcter of your hyperbolic apocalyptic hysterics, lol.

          • jim_m

Yet all of those characterizations are apt descriptions of your behavior here.

          • Brucehenry

To those who can’t fucking read perhaps.

          • jim_m

Nope. To those who follow your behavior and see that you always excuse government overreach, you always find a reason not to go after islamists, you do sometimes come off with a hate America first attitude (even if it isn’t as bad as Chico, you always defend his anti-Americanism).

Yo can deny all this but all that accomplishes is you refusing to look in the mirror and see what you really are.

Your an ankel biter with delusions of relevance.

        • jim_m

Here, Bruce, is a list of men who have had to sue their colleges and universities because they were unfairly expelled, suspended or disciplined based on unsubstantiated or sometimes outright false accusations of sexual misconduct, assault or rape.

And that is only those that have been able to sue so far. It is the tip of the iceberg.

          • Brucehenry

Do you have a list of all the girls who were assaulted over the years and never reported it because they knew there would be consequences FOR THEM if they did? Of course you don’t.

Are you aware that one can be guilty of a crime and yet insist that one is not guilty? And that sometimes the guilty go free?

I regret any false accusation made against anyone, but just because you sue, or because it can’t be proven in court (as you have pointed out many times), doesn’t mean you didn’t do it.

          • jim_m

Except that the so-called “rape culture” does not and never has existed. Plus – Rape has been on a decades long decline in this country.

In our country depriving someone of their freedom, or property (including the services, such as education, that they have paid for) requires due process. There is no epidemic of rape in this nation. It is a lie perpetrated by left wing academics, primarily to punish men for the crime of being men and not even for making sexual advances. The whole rape culture meme is about making men criminals who have yet to be convicted.

Universities are depriving men of their rights without due process and men are being expelled often with nothing more than the accusation of a single female against them. In some cases the female has even recanted her accusation but the man is still punished. In many cases men are not allowed to confront their accusers, cross examine witnesses or even present a defense.

It does not surprise me to hear you defending this injustice. The suggestion that because it cannot be proven in court that it is OK to get some sort of justice by depriving the accused of due process rights is not the road to justice. It is mob rule. It is the same sort of fascist rule that I keep accusing you of supporting and now here you are doing it again.

          • Brucehenry

Well good thing I’m not trying to make a case that there is, then.

          • http://wizbangblog.com/author/rodney-graves/ Rodney G. Graves

That would be yours to produce.

I’m not a parent, but most of my girlfriends over the years have had one or more children. I’ll never replace their real dad, but giving those children great birthday parties or a huge Christmas, or new school clothes every year has always been very important to me. – It was always nice to be able to bring these children into my big doctor’s home in my good neighborhood where my neighbors were bankers, lawyers or doctors and have these children play with the other children and tell them that you’re just as good as these kids ask then to play with you.
