OPEN THREAD: Doofus GOP Congressman Asks US Officials of Indian Descent About ‘Their’ Country

Consider this an open thread, but I did want to guffaw at Curt Clawson (R-Fla.), a freshman GOP congressman who had two people of Indian descent testifying before him in a committee hearing today. Clawson proceeded to ask them about their country and if we could expect India to join us in economic agreements to the benefit of both the US and India.

Unfortunately for Clawson, he didn’t realize he wasn’t talking to foreigners from India, he was talking to two representatives of our own State Department.

Duh! Was he paying attention at all to why he was in that committee hearing in the first place?

Jebus, what a bonehead move.

One can understand that he could think that they were representatives of a foreign government. Today’s state dept seems to think that their first responsibility is to represent the interests of foreign nations and not the interests of the US. The bureaucracy is infected and needs to have radical surgery to remove the disease that is destroying our nation. The state dept is little more than a tax payer funded organization fighting against US interests.

Still, he’s an ass for making this gaffe.

“Today’s state dept seems to think that their first responsibility is to represent the interests of foreign nations and not the interests of the US.”

      Too true, that.

Plus one for non partisan criticism.

No ethnic group has come so far so fast in the USA as Indo-Americans, I really don’t blame the Congressman for not seeing it.

It’s amazing what can happen when you don’t hang around looking for government handouts and you take your future into your own hands.

Absolutely. While, at the same time, people born here, with all the advantages, sit around waiting for their checks every month, and whine about how hard they have it.

When intolerant leftists start bitching about the disparity in female pay in the obama administration(or any democrat’s office staff) I will think that you are serious on this issue. Until then I will not. I think I should be safe ignoring this issue for a very long time.

  • Par4Course

With the worst President in at least 100 years in the White House, Republicans expect big gains in the 2014 elections. But they may trip up on their own stupidity. The Dems are devious and deceitful (if you like your doctor …), but a lot of their success has been due to their opponents’ electoral incompetence.

  • jim_m

And here is pseudo-Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton claiming that the people do not have the right to know what is going on in their government. Mind you this is not about issues of national security, this is because she doesn’t want obama admin officials investigated for violations of the law.

Once obama claimed that this would be the most transparent administration ever. What we got was the most transparently corrupt administration ever. And what is most laughable is that lefties uniformly see nothin hypocritical about these actions and will stumble all over themselves providing excuses for why it is that obama needs to function outside of the law and the constitution.

And always the bottom line reason from the left: Because shut up!

In the spirit of the open thread:

Lefties like Chico are always carrying on about how great unions are for everyone. So let’s take a look at that great union state of Michigan. We all know what unions did to Michigan, they drove jobs out of the state (out of the country really) and created one of the worst economies in the nation.

But just last year the GOP in Michigan pushed through a right to work law. Lefties gnashed their teeth and wailed that incomes would plummet because the worker no longer had the beneficent union to look after his best interests.

So how has that worked out…

Michigan’s per-capita personal income increased from $38,291 in 2012 (before right-to-work became law) to $39,215 in 2013, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Economic Analysis. That increase was the ninth highest in the country. (snip)

“The dire predictions of right-to-work detractors have not come true — Michigan has been a leader in income growth since passage,” said James Hohman, assistant director of fiscal policy at the Mackinac Center for Public Policy.

A study released this week by Richard Vedder, a distinguished professor of economics at Ohio University and an adjunct scholar with the American Enterprise Institute as well as with the Mackinac Center, found that “incomes rise following the passage of RTW laws, even after adjusting for substantial
population growth that those laws also induce. RTW states tend to be vibrant and growing; non-RTW states tend to be stagnant and aging.”

The study states: “The evidence suggests that if non-RTW states had adopted RTW laws 35 years ago or so, income levels would be on the order of $3,000 per person higher today, with the overall effect varying somewhat from state to state.”

So as we have stated, unions have plundered the incomes of the worker and held them back financially. This was done for the purpose of enriching union leaders and advancing the interests of the dems, all of which were in direct opposition to the interests of the workers. Unions and dems are parasites and we are now seeing the proof of that fact.
