OPEN THREAD… Video: Which Anti-Gay Republican Said it?

Consider this the weekend’s open thread.

But first…

Mark Slater is a radio host on KFMB AM 760 out of San Diego, California and he visited the local gay pride parade to see if participants could correctly identify which bigot said which ant-gay comment. He presented the quotes alongside the faces of Sarah Palin, Donald Trump, Rick Santorum, and Mike Huckabee. But were the quotes REALLY from these Republicans or were they really from….

Slater also asked these gay supporters how much of the US population they thought was gay. Their absurdly skewed answers are a product of a popular entertainment culture that insists on pushing gay characters in nearly every TV show and movie.

Aside from Slater’s somewhat annoying penchant of pronouncing Hillary’s last name “Clit-en” instead of ClinTON, this video is both hilarious and frightening for the ignorance it shows of supporters of gay pride.

So, what do you have to say today?

I’m a liberal but not a progressive (oxymoron descriptive). I believe in personal freedom which is the fundamental definition of a liberal. That always results in desiring less government not bigger government because of government intrusion into the private lives of citizens. But communists became progressives to advocate socialism and then co-opted the liberal name without the substance of personal liberty through lies and misrepresentations. Progressives are exactly opposite of liberals because they push collectivism which is anathema to personal liberty and being a liberal. Thus the name they chose is an oxymoron and is designed to fool most people. Their thinking is not progressive but heralds back to a darker more regressive age where there were no rights of the individual and the state (dictator, king, party) made the decisions and were willing to use physical force against individuals to make them comply. This is the direction of the Democratic party of progressive.

I personally don’t care what the LGBTXYZ community individuals do within their own homes. I can even look away when they are in public with PDA. But when they attempt to force me to do anything they have declared war on me and have crossed a line. When SCOTUS declares what is plain to be a right of the states to be their territory to decide at the federal level – SCOTUS and specifically Roberts has lost all respect for law and I for him as a person and a judge. I support every State’s Right to civil disobedience to the obvious injustice perpetrated by the Robert’s court. I would also support an impeachment proceeding against the Chief Justice who is also in charge of the FISA secret court which is obviously going against the 4th Amendment.

They can stand me up at the gates of hell and I won’t back down. If others think LGBTXYZ or whatever is against “god’s” law, then let that be between those who “sin” in the eyes “god” and their “god”. That is none of my business. But don’t take anything from “progressives” and push back HARD if they try to push their beliefs on you or your kids and push through their policies as they did ACA in the middle of the night behind closed doors claiming “we have to pass it to know what is in it”.

I do still have “progressive” friends who know exactly where I stand and they know better than to cross the line. They also can’t debate because they don’t have facts, logic, or the cold hard truth on their side because they are unwilling to see the truth, face their own failings, learn from history, and are thus self-blinded in their beliefs. You can’t fix stupid. Only they can do that for themselves.

you’re sounding more libertarian than liberal.

      • PerceiveToBeWise

They are the same thing on personal freedom and small government only comes into it in the more recent decades as liberals turned on themselves to become more socialistic and libertarianism was born out of being a liberal. But, I’m not libertarian – go to Reason.com and try to debate with those idiots. They will have you with open borders in a heartbeat where we do become a third world nation and full of monopolies as they have no control over businesses letting the market forces play out at the expense of the consumer. No money expansion, gold standard (there is literally not enough gold in the world to run the US on a gold standard). So, no, I’m no libertarian though many of their policies may be close to mine in other areas.

Its sort of like the difference between Ron and Rand Paul. Libertarians mostly can’t stand Rand Paul and loved Ron. Ron was great at sticking to his principles but no one really took him seriously at the national level and during his time in congress. Ron was more than just a non-interventionist -he was a “withdrawist” form the world stage but not isolationist. Rand on the other hand has been accused of being a libertarian and doesn’t want to lose his father’s base completely so he describes himself as libertarianish republican. He doesn’t want to withdraw from the world stage and will use a more active though not policeman role on the world stage.

I don’t have an issue with providing a safety net for those who cannot provide or fend for themselves through no fault of their own. That is not socialism (at least to me in comparison to today’s progressives) but is certainly not libertarian who would let you die in the streets when you get old – your fault you didn’t provide for yourself. I’m not that cold hearted. Though, I would not give out food stamps and welfare to those who are of working age and can work. That puts me anathema to progressives and socialists….and hard line conservatives.

So, put a label on me if you like. Doesn’t bother me as long as it isn’t progressive for I despise collectivism. Maybe an independant is the best descriptor. Actually I don’t know as I’ve studied all the political types and took a very detailed question and answer quiz that plots where my political spectrum was. I came out close to the absolute middle leaning socially liberal and fiscally conservative. Interesting enough I am far from both US progressives and conservatives as classified by the graph as both of the major parties leaned towards authoritarianism which is why this county is headed in the wrong direction.

    • I always call that a “classical liberal,” because modern liberalism has made a mockery of the word liberal.

I know Roberts has flubbed it badly with respect to health care, but he voted for states’ rights on the marriage issue. His dissent is very good.

But you are ok with your privacy being completely compromised by the shredding of the 4th Amendment under FISA which he administers and where NSA get’s their authority to gather bulk collection of information on US citizens. That in and of itself should be enough for impeachment.
