The Stonewall Begins To Crumble

The Obama [mal]Administration has finally admitted what Wizbang readers already knew:

State Dept.: $400M to Iran was contingent on US prisoners’ release

By Daniel Halper, the New York Post

The State Department admitted Thursday that the US would not hand over $400 million in cash to Iran until it released four American hostages — two weeks after President Obama insisted the payment was not a “ransom.”

State Department spokesman John Kirby was asked at Thursday’s press briefing: “In basic English, you’re saying you wouldn’t give them $400 million in cash until the prisoners were released, correct?”

“That’s correct,” Kirby replied.

In an Aug. 4 press conference, President Obama said the opposite.

“We do not pay ransom. We didn’t here, and we won’t in the future,” the president told reporters, speaking of the Jan. 17 payment and hostage release.

There’s video at the New York Post article linked above, for those who always deny what the rest of us find indisputable.

Criticism of Hillary Clinton Gone Too Far

I’m not sure how the United States did not have better lawyers to contend that Iran violated the civil rights and liberty of innocent hostages that were taken after the 1979 Iranian revolution or the illegal seizure of American owned property and not owe the U.S. reparations. Further, how could the U.S. owe another $400 million after their bullshit lawsuit in international courts and make the U.S. pay them more money for holding hostages is beyond me. Some countries like Russia, international courts or not would not stand for this, but then again Iran and Russia are now allies and friends, where get away with unthinkable actions.

    • This was 0bama’s policy, and his show. He claims to be completely satisfied.

      • Paul Hooson

The U.S. never ever should give the current Iranian regime a single penny. Iran offers up to $9000 payments to terrorists who kill Israeli civilians.

        • Brett Buck

Correct. And in every other thread, you advocate voting to continue this policy with Hillary.

          • Noticed that, have you?

          • jim_m

Paul is incoherent at best and might be considered mentally incapacitated. Most of his ideas seem to come from some sort of fantasy world that he alone makes up.

          • nanny

Bingo!! I couldn’t have said it better.

    • jim_m

Shorter Paul, “I’m not sure how I am going to make up some bullshit to defend hillary for this”

      • Paul Hooson

This was an international court case matter. But, I don’t understand how the U.S. could not make and win the case that Iran has illegally seized American hostages or property.

        • Retired military

” But, I don’t understand how the U.S. could not make and win the case that Iran has illegally seized American hostages or property. Why pay Iran anything? Why doesn’t Iran pay the U.S. damages?”

I can answer that in 3 words

And the reason for Paul’s not understanding?

There are none so blind as those who will not see.

          • Paul Hooson

I’d like to know more about the international court case and was this ordered as a settlement or something this administration merely advanced, only to anger Jewish voters like me by putting more money into the hands of the hateful Iranian regime. Deals like this and the Iranian nuclear deal only piss off many Jewish voters.

          • Brett Buck

Many American jews are more invested in the wretched hive of scum and villainy that is the Democrat party than they are in stopping Iran or the destruction of Israel. That includes you- every time you tell us to vote for Hillary, you are saying “I am A-OK with the status quo of placating the Muslim world and spouting random empty platitudes while doing absolutely nothing useful to stop them”.

The international court is at least as corrupt as the Democrats and certainly powerless to do anything to any player, particularly Iran. What will stop Iran is force, because they are led by fanatics who believe martyrdom is laudable. That the problem with the world’s approach to Islamic terrorism throughout the Middle East. If you are not willing to directly confront and defeat them on the fields of battle, you are conceding, because *they* certainly will fight.

          • jim_m

I’d like to know why it is you think that the international court has anything to do with this. It didn’t. This was 0bama negotiating from a position of weakness because he chooses to negotiate from that position. It was 0bama capitulating to the enemies of the United States because he sides with them to begin with.

“I’m no fan of Hillary, but she’s not Secretary Of State now, so there is no connection of her to this story that I personally know of here. But, on the other hand, Trump is the son of a Ku Klux Klan member, ”

You are not to be taken seriously.

Even the left leaning snopes rates the claim that Fred was a member as undetermined/false.

As for the subject, it would be front page news if Obama told the truth about something.

          • Does anyone take him seriously? He’s just the least retarded and dogmatic of our progtards.

        • Jwb10001

And since Iran seems to be such a good global citizen you’re confident they would abide by any world court judgement? There is 1 thing and 1 thing only that would bring Iran to compliance with anything and here’s a clue it’s not some cockamamie court.

    • Retired military

They could have the best lawyers in the world but if Obama doesnt want to do anything against Iran it would do zero good. Obama is the problem.

  • Scalia

If it walks like a ransom, talks like a ransom, and looks like a ransom…

    • Paul Hooson

I agree. Any money put in the hands of Iran will usually find it’s way into paying for Iranian sponsored terrorism against Iran some way. Any money Iran has often means Israeli blood later.

      • LiberalNightmare

Thats not a bug, its a feature.

      • fustian24

Paul, I blame an internet video. (grin)

  • Depends on what your definition of “is” is.

  • LiberalNightmare

Fortunately for Obama, everyone knew he was lying in the first place.

  • Joe_Miller

How many troops does the International Court have?

  • Brucehenry

The precedent was set in the 1980s by the Reagan administration. We paid ransoms throughout that decade to Iran, Syria, and Hizbollah, in return for hostages in Lebanon. Some of the ransom was in the form of advanced weapons to Iran, but they gave us cash back and we used it to fund death squads in Central America.

Yet Reagan is a saint and Barack Hussein Obama is a villain. Go figure.
