Continued flagellation regarding the nascent prospects for a constitutional amendment that defines marriage exactly the way it is currently defined in federal law is still in overdrive. Enter the "queen of mean" Rosie O'Donnell. From today's San Francisco Chronicle:
Earlier Thursday, O'Donnell announced her wedding plans on ABC's "Good Morning America," just two days after President Bush called for a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.Oh really, perhaps the words of President Clinton are a close second.She said the president's call is what inspired her to come to San Francisco, where city officials continue to perform same-sex weddings even as state courts are considering the legality of those marriages.
"I think the actions of the president are, in my opinion, the most vile and hateful words ever spoken by a sitting president," O'Donnell said on the program. "I am stunned and I'm horrified.
I have long opposed governmental recognition of same-gender marriages and this legislation is consistent with that position. The Act confirms the right of each state to determine its own policy with respect to same gender marriage and clarifies for purposes of federal law the operative meaning of the terms "marriage" and "spouse".Both John Kerry and John Edwards are against same-sex marriage as well. Rosie would do well to read this column from OutSmart Magazine that details how high profile Democrats have sold out gays with hardly a peep from the gay activist groups. From the article:
A governor criminalizes gay sex, yet gay leaders say nothing. An elected official backs antigay marriage legislation, yet a gay group says he's blameless. Another governor vetoes legislation giving gay employees the right to take time off from work to care for a sick lover, yet the state's gay lobbying organization yawns.Face it Republicans have no monopoly on dissing homosexuals...Welcome, my friends, to the world of the Democratic double standard.

Update 2: Amish Tech Support has taken up Rosie's challenge. Lair is looking for concrete examples of more hateful and vile words spoken by a sitting president. It's a trip down the not so spectacular moments of presidential history, and is not to be missed!

Gay "activist" groups? These people are just as much bought and paid for by special interests as the politicians.
I guess I shouldn't do too much finger pointing. I used to be one of those activists out in the streets, willing to take an egg in the face or a club to the back of the head.
But, I'm older now. My job is secure. I make good money. My neighbors don't hassle me. Going out in the streets and burning Bush in effigy is just so beneath me now -- I'd feel silly. Besides, I've got a blog. I can rant about Bush all I want and not worry about getting called a fag.
Gay activists used to work only as volunteers and operated out of their homes or rundown community centers. We were angry and motivated because people were beating us up and refusing to rent to us.
Now, these groups have gotten rich from federal grants and corporate donations. Some of the directors of make six-figure salaries. They now have fancy black-tie fundraisers in hotel ballrooms -- hell, I'm going to one on Sunday night.
As soon as someone figured out that there is money to be had in "gay activism", everything changed.
Remember the term "blacksploitation"? It was the exploitation of Black culture by the media -- brought on by the commercialization of the "Black Power" movement.
Well, today we have "gaysploitation" -- as evidenced by Queer As Folk, Queer Eye, The L Word, and all of the other gay-themed entertainment shows and movies now dominating the media.
That's my rant.
