Too many of her core constituency down in NOLA have scattered to the four winds. A good chunk of those folks will never return.

I'd be surprised if New Orleans has returned to 80% of it's pre-hurricane population by November 2006.

I'd be curious to know how many of the poor who did not/could not evacuate actually owned their homes or were renters. This is relevant because if they owned, they'll get assistance to rebuild. If the rented, their landlords will get the assistance and they (the poor folks) likely will not be able to afford the rent in the spiffy new digs.

MrSpkr, they may be scattered right now but there's no reason to think they won't gravitate back to NO or at least in the area. Especially if it's the new and improved version. Even if only 75% of them return that'll probably be enough to put her back in office.

For those N.O. residents relocated out of state, will they still be allowed (out of sympathy) to vote in LA if they intend to return? Will they be able to vote in the state where they are relocated if they are there long enough to establish residency? I can see the DNC rubbing it's dirty little "re-districting" hands over this one.

I don't see why they wouldn't be able to vote where they're relocated, unless they're still living in the Astrodome during election time, and thus not "technically" at an established residence. I moved out of state last August and voted in all local and national races two and a half months later.

On the other hand, attempting to associate "damage control" and Wizbang in the same context seems like so much more of that muckity muck brown water that's currently affecting (and has affected) New Orleans. It must be a tough thing to read non indulgent liberal crud -- somewhat overwhelming, in fact, such that people here (most of us) will give you time enough to get your bearings. But only time enough, then you're on your own.

Either you haven't really "checked out" Wizbang's coverage of Katrina all that well or you have a serious reading comprehension problem.

Paul had barely hooked up his computer after HE evacuated from New Orleans (actually Metarie[sp?]) before he began calling for "Brownie's" head on a silver platter. And I've seen very few comments disagreeing with that. At least one of them made by me, suggesting we should find out what happened before starting the (metaphorical) executions.

Man, think of the lives that could have been saved if this hurricane had hit on election day.

Once Blanco wrote to the president requesting a federal emergency declaration on August 26th, and the Dauphin had his people write back promising to get right on top of the situation and put the full effort of the federal government at the ready, the feds had a duty to respond. The city's buses were beached by the flooding. The state was clearly overwhelmed. I have never once argued that Blanco is a hero here, but your inability to ever, not freaking EVER... find fault with George Bush is almost cult-like. I, one of those "neo-con", McChimpy Bu$hitleriburton sycophants have excoriated this President on several issues. Others have too, regularly.
