Attack Of The BotNet

This morning we got hit by a very large botnet attack. In the process of restoring access to the server I was able to identify nearly all the attacking hosts (~50) and prevent them from ever accessing the site again. Service is back to normal.... [Full Story]

Another One Bites The Dust

Yet another member of the Wizbang audience has been promoted to Commenter Emeritus. BarneyG2000 decided to challenge Cassy on the veracity of one of her pieces. Then, when she didn't respond by his 2-hour deadline (which he didn't even bother to announce ahead of time), he called her a liar... [Full Story]

Access to Pro sporting events for Sports bloggers

First I'll make an announcement. Next month I will be covering the Stanford International Pro-Am. The first LPGA full field event in South Florida since 2001. This is the second time I've been credentialed to cover a LPGA golf event. Last November I covered the ADT Championship in West Palm... [Full Story]

We're Back!

We've been down all weekend - stuck in a timewarp - with a disk that couldn't be written. After serveral days of work everything is back as it was Friday. Of course this happened when my computer access was serverly limitted making the repairs take a bit longer than I'd... [Full Story]

About Those Gay Singles Ads...

Short version: They're gone. Long version: We were alerted to their presence this morning and immediately removed them. Since they are served by a network that has over 10,000 ads we had no real way of knowing they'd be there, but once we found out about them I immediately manually... [Full Story]

Coder Help Wanted

I've got a very specific need for a CSS and HTML coder to help me move my existing CSS to a new format. There's no real design work involved it's just moving the current layout and CSS division at Wizbang to this standard layout for MT 4.1. If you can... [Full Story]

Ooops...

For the record I'm denying all responsibility... Anyway I've managed to screw up access to all the other Wizbang sites by mucking about with the Apache configuration on our server. It was, of course, done with the best of intentions. I'm working on restoring access to all the sites. It's... [Full Story]

All Your Vowels Are Belong To Us

In our never ending quest to keep the comment section on topic and under control I've deployed yet another tool for comment section editor Maggie Whitton to use - the vowel eater. As opposed to deleting a comment that violates comment policy Maggie (and other authors) have the option to... [Full Story]

There's a new sheriff in town...

And her name is Maggie... I'm proud to announce that we've hired a comment section editor at Wizbang. We're still working out the mechanics, but Maggie (who is on a crash course to learn the software we use to publish our site) will be joining us in her official capacity... [Full Story]

Comment Policy Update

Today I've updated the comment policy to make clear that everyone commenting here is a guest, and that privilege to do so can be revoked at any time and for any reason. Here's the relevant stuff from the TOS: Your participation - whether you agree or disagree with us -... [Full Story]

Outage Over

Wizbang was down for about an hour earlier this evening due to the server becoming unresponsive which required a manual reboot. We're still investigating the cause, but everything is back to normal now.... [Full Story]

If You Want to Tell Me How To Blog, Put Me On Your Payroll

There is a common tactic of liberal trolls that I've ignored for years but I've finally had enough of. Some troll will get in the comments section and whine that I they didn't like the way I wrote something. They can't refute what I've just said so they whine... You've... [Full Story]

About Last Night...

Our server suffered a catastrophic disk error last night and I've been working to restore things. We were offline most of the day, using a backup site. Most of the sites are back up, though many images are not yet restored. All sites should be functional by Monday morning. I'll... [Full Story]

Going Wider

As you may have noticed the layouts have been slightly updated to use more of the screen. This is something many of you requested and something I've been working on for a while. For the next hour or so some pages may be in flux as the stylesheets and templates... [Full Story]

Crawling Back Under My Rock

As many of you know, I "retired" from Wizbang a while ago. Now, I'm the proverbial 12th man. When things like the London Bombing or the Va Tech shooting happen I jump in but other than that, I mostly hang out in the background. - This summer it seemed everyone... [Full Story]

Blogcation

Some folks may have noted that my postings have declined of late. It's been getting tougher and tougher for me to sit down in front of the keyboard and let the words pour out of me. Several friends have noticed, and they've reassured that the quality of my work hasn't... [Full Story]

Announcement: Comments System Broken

I regret to announce that there is a glitch in our comment-processing software. For some reason, whenever someone posts an insulting comment in a foreign language (such as, say, calling someone's mother a prostitute person of negotiable virtue in French), the comment gets translated -- and very poorly. Case in... [Full Story]

Previewing Wizbang 2.1

I've taken to noting the current design iteration at Wizbang as 2.0 even though it's a bit 1.5 for my tastes. Given that I wanted to give you a sneak peak at what - for lack of a better identifier - I've termed Wizbang 2.1. The design is slowly being... [Full Story]

Comment Section Update

Our comment section settings are now basically complete. We've added back in the subscription piece and formatting buttons. Additionally we've numbered comments and attached a link anchor to the comment number, and added the total votes per comment to the current total. That's about it for the changes to comment... Hey What Happened To Wizbang?

We've changed. It's a temporary stop on the way to our new design, but there was some functionality that we really needed and couldn't make work with the old layouts without rewriting them completely. As you poke around you'll see new function and links - go ahead and click them... [Full Story]

Possible Site Issues This Weekend

This weekend (actually it's already begun) I will be recoding the backend at Wizbang and for good measure slapping on a new (temporary) coat of paint. Be advised that on occasion one page may not look like another while things are being rebuilt. Overnight tonight the majority of pages should... [Full Story]

The not-totally-crazies next door

Last week, my colleague Paul had a great deal of fun exposing some of the sillier and more irresponsible things being posted over at Wizbang Blue. It did a lot of things, but the main consequence for me was to get me to meander back over there and give it... [Full Story]

Troll Smashing

As some have noticed, a rather persistent one-note troll has been impersonating a regular commenter and insulting me. He is switching his IP on a regular basis, resulting in my playing several rounds of whack-a-mole on him until I started banning whole IP blocks wholesale. I think I'm going to... [Full Story]
