I have to admit that I wasn't expecting much from Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, but after seeing it all I can say is that it was really good. It is actually pretty amazing that it doesn't completely suck ass like The Hulk, given that it is based on a ride at Disneyland. Pirate movies don't have a stellar record of late at the box office either as the Geena Davis/Renny Harlan bomb Cutthroat Island proved. With all those negatives lined up against it, Pirates Of The Caribbean is actually fun, clever, and best of all not completely formulistic.
I won't bore you with the plot details, but Johnny Depp is excellent as the Dean Martin of pirates, drunkenly (or effeminately depending on your interpretation) stumbling and stammering through scenes. He commands the movie with his over the top performance. The best part of the movie is that it doesn't take itself too seriously and the good guys, bad guys, hero, and heroine are not caricatures. The all get chances to deliver snappy dialogue and funny lines. The action and effects are good, especially the skeletons. Frequent riders of the Disneyland ride will notice familiar vignettes from the ride dotted throughout the movie.
In short everything you might have hoped for in The Hulk, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl delivers. Expect the buzz on this film to be positive. I can hardly believe I would ever write those words about a pirate movie...
I am not completely unbiased about this movie, but I would be the first to pan it if it sucked.

I don't know what Johnny Depp does in his down time but it seems that he is picking his movies wisely and nailing the performances. I haven't seen this flick yet, but I expect it to be pretty good. I look forward to seeing it.

I loved the Curse of The Black Pearl. Johnny Depp is soooooooooo funny. I was waiting for a hoky movie, but it was sooooooo cool. i think that in the movie, Johnny and Orlando r some how related. just a guess.

Johnny Depp is soooo cute and fine and sexy an amazing. He is the best actor in this whole world He is the best he is so funny and I loved his acent and his walk and everything. His dark eyeliner matched his personality and his eyes stand out. He is the best! I would see the movie 100000 times.

Johnny Depp is the hottest 30 year old we have ever seen in our entire lives! He's the only man who can actually pull off eye liner, gold teeth, beads, a braided beard and still look amazingly sexy! Pirates is A fantastic Movie and theres never been any doubt about how fantastic Johnny Depp is, He rocks in this movie, hope the Academy is listening for once, give Johnny the best Actor Oscar now for giving us a The one character this year we`ve all genuinely enjoyed lighting up the screen.Theres no Actor alive who`s prepared to take risks to put wild and unique characters on the screen, from Benny and Joon to Edward Scissorhands. But Captain Jack Sparrow stands out amoungts them all.

I love POTC! It was so awesome! I loved Johnny Depp. He's such an awesome actor. Johnny Depp was so funny in that movie... and SO SEXY!!!
