PLAY/Autism

Parents of young children with autism are finding a playful way to help their kids. The University of Michigan's PLAY therapy program focuses on autistic children from 18 months to six years old. The children and their families embark on intensive therapy that capitalizes on activities the children enjoy doing, like opening and shutting doors. A counselor helps parents find the best ways to interact with their kids, and the therapy itself involves about 15 to 20 hours a week. Researchers find that the playtime aids in language development and improves behavior
