Guess who had no idea all these fuckwads were coming to DC today? Me. From this Washington Post article: Thousands March on Roe v. Wade Anniversary
Thousands of abortion opponents gathered on the Washington Mall today, the 31st anniversary of the Supreme Court's decision legalizing abortion, to protest the practice and voice their hopes that increasing political clout will help reverse the court action. And of course the one day of the year I have to go to Union Station, and I forgo a Metro ride in from Falls Church, opting to go in on Interstate 66 and Constitution Avenue. ASSHATS EVERYWHERE!!!Both opponents and supporters of abortion rights used the day to press their cases. Church services and rallies this morning culminated for abortion opponents with the noon rally at the Ellipse, just south of the White House, and a march to the Supreme Court.
Unless you live in the DC area, or possibly New York, you really have no idea how much the people's right to assemble in your commuter arteries sucks ass. I don't care if you're pro-choice, pro-life, if you are responsible for blocking all the major roads around the Mall - I hate you.
A couple notes... There's plenty of fucking room on the Mall and the sidewalks for walking. If it's just the media coverage they want, why not put everyone on buses and take them (and the media) the the parking lot at RFK Stadium? Everyone can march laps around the stadium and the TV crews can film them.
I think this picture sums up my general feelings this afternoon:

Update: When you're writing about DC traffic tie ups, it only seems appropriate to link to the Beltway Traffic Jam at Outside The Beltway.

Right, who could have forgotten that all-important 31st anniversary? You should have known they'd be there.

I love the way the local media report on demonstrations like the weather or traffic. "We have a 40% chance of rain, and plan on adding a couple minutes to your commute because we've got protestors on the mall."
I hate them even more than the tourists.

I'm a little unclear here: Are you calling them asshats because of what they beliieve, or because they snarled up traffic for a day?
