According to this I must be one of the lucky sevenths. I know I can have a cynical side, but from my own point of view I have a fairly optimistic world view.
Only one in seven IT specialists rate themselves as 'very happy' in their work, compared to one in three in hairdressers, plumbers and chefs, and one in four florists. The findings are revealed in a new City & Guilds 'Happiness Index', based on a survey of 1,054 employees both in academic professions and in vocational occupations. Overall, IT workers came in at number 19 in the happiness index.
I've always subscribed to the belief behind Abraham Lincoln's quote
"People are about as happy as they make up their minds to be"
Though maybe someone needs an eye chart. From the Index IT is in ninth place and the media ranks nineteenth.

That's because 1/2 of the people in the business are so F'ing stupid they have no clue what they are doing and live in fear they will be found out.
The other half watch in wonder as dip-shit managers promote the first half.
I know, I deal with IT people from 20 or more different companies. The idiots get the promotions every time. Their bosses might get a virus 20 times because they slavishly install poorly written software but by golly they get promoted.
Did that sound cynical?

Don't hold back, tell me how you really feel. ;)
I've been both in management and on the technical side. I'm currently back in technical, actually working to solve problems instead of documenting others crap. What I'm doing now is a lot of fun, most of the time.
As far as management: "Eagles soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines."
