Magicicada Brood X

No that's not a new horror movie, it's the name of the insect that along with millions of it's relatives is making it's once in 17 year appearance this week in my neighborhood.

When you've got a special section of the Washington Post devoted to you, you know you're special. Also it looks like it's going to be a particulary shitty month for outdoor dining and wedding receptions.

Due to the demands of infant care, I'm paying someone to mow the lawn this summer (a job I enjoy), that's looking like a better and better decision every day...

We always get some every year. This particular brood is supposed to be large. It looks like from the map that the Detroit area is just on the edge.

Hmmm...something to look forward to when I get home from my week up north. *shudder*
