I have seen the video, and boy am i madder than hell. I am a veteran gulf war one, and just came back from Iraq, 3 months ago. Watching the video just did not sit well with me, these cowards were not only covering their faces, but at the same time making this young man suffer. For 5 minutes of banter he just sat there and listened to these assholes talk about a god that accepts this. Than one minute of pure unadulterated horror and screams. After watching this video i went home and gave my son a great big hug and kiss, he is only 2 1/2 yrs old, but we now have to remember that these cowards have more hostages, one of them being a private in the army. Let us all pray for his and every one else's safe return. For those fucking towel wearing bastards that did that to Mr.Berg, Don't come to america talking that shit, because you will find me and 30 million other americans waiting for your asses....

It's bad what our American soldiers did to those people in the prison. But before people in the Arab world begin to throw stones at us, they should consider the condition and treatment of their own prisoners in their own countries. They act like we're barbaric (when those actions committed by a few were not done as part of the will of our contry or government). I wonder what the world would find out if some people with cameras took a surprise tour of the prisons in Iran, Saudi Arabia, and other Arab countries?
That said, I still think our troops who did what they did should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law--and they will be (after all, you break a law, you pay the price). Our country is held to a higher standard, and we should realize that and not do stupid things. (and our country has prosecuted its own in the past for war crimes, certainly more than other countries who party when such crimes are committed--renmember the Palestinians reaction to 9/11?). In World War II, our country was the one Germans wanted to be captured by, not Russia, because we were humane (same with Britain). However, there were American soldiers in WWII who, undoubtedly, did some things they shouldn't, and it's too bad that one person can give ammunition for other's to fire accusations against us.
Also, why don't muslims realize what we did in Kosovo? Why were fighting to rescue moslims from ethnic cleansing! Our country is the only one that puts its people in the line of fire for other people. And as for those who say we are their only for oil. Most of the people in this country are interested in having a better economy. However, we value freedom more, and we vote in our representative and senators, so our government goes back to the people who want the Iraqi people to have freedom (and not get tortured for losing a soccer game!). And as for people who say we are interested only in oil. How the heck do you know what my interests are? Are the people in this world mind readers? I don't think so! You DO NOT know what is going on in the mind of the President of the USA or in the mind of any other living human being. So don't be so arrogant and presume to know something that you do not know!

As an Englishman and an ex-seviceman who served in the first gulf war I have just watched this atrocity and feel compelled to comment, something I never do.
Firstly I am a socialist who disagrees fundamentally with virtually all of this administrations foreign policies. I believe this war was poorly planned, timed and followed up. The reasons given were, at best, grossly exagerated and forces deployed without any clear exit strategy. The results were predictable - huge propaganda coups for Islaamic fundamentalists worldwide, thousands flocking to their banners because of the anti-western feelings fired up, and, worst of all unnecessary casualties to both Iraqi civilians and more importantly our coallition forces and western civilians - such as this obscene incident.
This brutal exexcution has, wrongly, been justified by the perpetrators as an act of revenge for the maltreatment of Iraqi prisoners. Those acts themselves were inexcusable. There were no WMDs and as this negates our reasons for invasion. We cannot justify ridding the world of Saddam if we cannot hold the moral high ground by showing that we are (and I know the degree of comparison is infinitisimal) no better than him by torturing and humiliating prisoners.
This said however, do not believe that this young man would not have died if the above abuse had not happened. No it would have taken any other act, real or fabricated, because we are faced with an enemy who truly hates us and everything we stand for.
Islaamic fundamentalism is the scourge of our time. These people will not rest until we are dead, subjugated or converted. The US with its, at times misplaced, unbending backing of Isreal, and us with our ties to you and our Imperial past, mark us out as infidel devils to be butchered like pigs - as we have just witnessed.
As I have said I am not a lover of all things American, however I do know what is right. When asked to choose I, as with the vast and silent majority in the UK, stand shoulder to shoulder with our US allies in the fight against these cowards who threaten our way of life. Nick Berg's murder just stiffens our resolve.
But let us choose our battlefields with more care in future.
