Playing Politics with your dead son

[now before you lefties leave a bunch of nasty comments consider who brought politics into this. - not me]

Berg Died for Bush, Rumsfeld 'Sins' - Father

PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - The father of Nick Berg, the American beheaded in Iraq (news - web sites), directly blamed President Bush (news - web sites) and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld on Thursday for his son's death.

"My son died for the sins of George Bush and Donald Rumsfeld. This administration did this," Berg said in an interview with radio station KYW-AM.

In the interview from outside his home in West Chester, Pennsylvania, a seething Michael Berg also said his 26-year-old son, a civilian contractor, probably would have felt positive, even about his executioners, until the last minute.

"I am sure that he only saw the good in his captors until the last second of his life," Berg said. "They did not know what they were doing. They killed their best friend."

I'm sure he was their best friend. This story has some weird undercurrents. The father was a well known Bush basher before this. He organized protests and signed petitions. (an A.N.S.W.E.R type)

Since the release of the details of his son's death he has tried to use his dead son as a political weapon.

This really shows the thinking of these sick people. They want to be friends with radical Ismalo-Facisist murders but bash the President.

Then when something like this happens, rather than morn quietly, he steps on the body of his dead son to bash Bush. No matter how long I live, I'll never understand people that hate Bush this much.

And what about the Jesus reference? His son "died for their sins?" Did Bush kidnap him and drag him to Iraq?

This event says far more about the father than it does Bush.

Update below the fold

The fact Michael Berg is using his son's death to push his politics is now undeniable.

Fritz:

Let's put this in perspective...

The man just lost his son and video of the most brutal murder possible has been seen all over the world.

I've seen quite a few people go nuts at a funeral and say all kinds of crazy things when they're grieving. In this case, I wouldn't be surprised to hear the family blame the Easter Bunny. Just imagine their trauma!

I don't care what this man's politics are. I am concerned that the media is willing to take advantage of him at a time of emotional weakness. He's an American. His son died because he was an American.

If the father wants to blame Bush and Rumsfeld, I'm going to cut him some slack. I've been through some rough times myself and I can understand that he's going through the steps of grief (denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance).

The fact that the media would jump on this is really sad. They're like a bunch of vultures. If the man went nuts and pulled out his hair and rolled around on the ground in a moment of dispair, they'd film every second of it and play it on the news.

These quotes are somewhat bizarre and certainly weren't spoken by someone in a completely stable frame of mind.

Please have some compassion for this man, even though you don't agree with his politics. Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity, and PAUL may not consider Michael Berg an American worthy of sympathy and understanding, but I do. I think most reasonable people will feel the same.

"Lefties" are Americans, too. Among the 9,386 Americans buried at Normandie, you can bet that quite a few of them were NOT conservative Republicans. A good share of those who have given their lives in Iraq have been liberals, too.

I think Wizbang's coverage of this has been great. And I don't agree with the father's remarks.

But, Paul, you're being an asshole.

Yeah, he "brought politics into this".

But the guy just found out yesterday that his son got brutally murdered in front of the whole world.

Forgive him if he's behaving a bit emotionally.

Paul:

OK you guys tell me in the next 2 days if I have a point. More is coming out.

The father has been bashing Bush for years now he is using the death of his son to advance his tin-foil hat politics and you call ME the asshole?

You're only calling me an asshole because I'm shining the light on how this guy thinks.

Yehudit:

What is your evidence that the father "has been bashing Bush for years" and "is an ANSWER type"? All I saw was that he signed an antiwar petition put out by ANSWER. Which many people have done who aren't involved in running he organization. It makes him an antiwar liberal, but not an "ANSWER type."

And your jumping the gun about Berg and the password is ridiculous. Lots of people give their computer passwords to people they shouldn't.

You are a total loose cannon and I'm not going to read your blog anymore. And yes, I am pro-war and pro-Israel and hang out at LGF. But you are being too irresponsible for me to take you seriously.

Yeah Mike, that's a trackback used to ping. You'll have to post the actual link ;)

As far as Paul's post goes. I'm going to have to agree with him. In a moment of extreme anger and grief when you want to lash out and blame anyone wouldn't you find it easier to blame the ones who actually DID IT? Makes sense to me. That man didn't even mention the terrorists in his 'blame'. I've talked about this with my husband (USAF), if we by some awful chance had to go through this and I lost him. I'd be hurt I'd be upset, angry, emotional, ranting but I would not blame Bush.

Paul doesn't have to produce evidence that Nick's father is a Bush Basher, it's all over the news sites/papers that will actually cough up and talk about this story.

JSchmidt:

no matter what berg's father says or believes about his son's death it is assholes like SEAN HANNITY who deserves condemnation for "playing politics" with berg's terrible murder...

he played nic berg's agonized screams on his program for political reasons, to push his own agenda.. as if the islamic butchers internet posting wasn't vile enough... hannity feels justified to use that horrible tape for his own purposes, cold bloodedly using berg's death for politics..he is no better than the inhuman murderers themselves..

and no matter the politics of berg's father... he didn't ask for the press to intrude on his deepest grief or for the pundits to use his sons agony in whatever way they chose..

If you are not open to constructive criticism of our government...DO NOT read this post...your replies will be unfair.

I want to know why Mr. Berg was murdered. I want to know why this happened right after the US was accused of taunting and humiliating captured soldiers of Iraq and was not blown up after poor Mr. Pearl suffered the same fate of decapitation (timing? convenience?). I want to know why his (Mr. Berg's) family was hounded by photogs and press when they learned of the public viewing of their son's decapitation...why was Mr. Berg detained by US military in Iraq...why are we not looking for Ben Laden anymore (or at least why have we not made that public knowledge anymore)...why did we let Sadam go during Desert Storm??? We had him in our sights and were ordered to stand down by George Bush Sr. when we lost American lives there and infected American families with chemical war related diseases...why did George Bush Jr. communicate with Osama Ben Laden while he was the Governor of Texas long before he was president and long before September 11th? Please why...WHY does George Bush Jr. use images of September 11th in his ad campaign?

I want to wave the US flag high and proud...but I have personally seen corruption on US political soil on a local level...I can't hardly imagine what that must be like on a global level. I love this country-and I can post this because we are the land of the free...that is the image we are supposed to be sending out although we sensor our entertainers (Howard Stern just to name one) and humiliate captive prisoners of war-this is NOT the image of a superpower of democracy and if we are planning to spend at a minimum 25 billion dollars on the war in Iraq next year I DO NOT desire that my country become the laughing stock of the world-not because of Howard Stern of course-but becuase of ironic behavior of our government.

Yes the beheading of Mr. Pearl and Mr. Berg is sickening...heart wrenching...disgusting...and makes me think about thoughts of revenge-but I just want to know why. That's all...just why I feel this way. There are savage beasts in every country...even the US (do I have to go through the list of serial killers, building bombers, cult leaders, rapists, school shooting assassins?) I want to feel safe in my country and when I travel.

We need to pull out of Iraq and bring our troops home-or at the very least re-focus our war efforts. There is one Ben Laden terrorist entity out there-unfortunetaly, there are ten more to take his place-sickening as that is...and especially after September 11th...shouldn't we switch our focus on hunting down that animal of terror as he deserves? Oh yeah...Osama is from Afghanistan...Sadam is from Iraq...last I checked we have Sadam...so 25 to 50 billion dollars to fight in Iraq...hmmm...any thoughts?
