Breaking Their Silence

Perhaps the 9/11 Commission would care to investigate this?

MOSCOW, Russia (CNN) - Russian intelligence services warned Washington several times that Saddam Hussein's regime planned terrorist attacks against the United States, President Vladimir Putin has said.

The warnings were provided after September 11, 2001 and before the start of the Iraqi war, Putin said Friday, according to the Interfax news agency.

The planned attacks were targeted both inside and outside the United States, said Putin, who made the remarks during a visit to Kazakhstan.

However, Putin said there was no evidence that Saddam's regime was involved in any terrorist attacks.

...Russia opposed the war in Iraq from the beginning, but Putin said the issue of going to war was separate from a potential Iraqi threat. He said there were international norms that weren't observed in carrying out the war.

Imagine there was no war (it's easy if you try). Now imagine a terrorist attack (post 9/11) with tens of thousands of American deaths. Then imagine that the attack could be traced directly to Saddam Hussein. Now imagine that the story above comes out after such an attack. What do you think the reaction would be?

I'm thinking something along the lines of, "If you had this intelligence, why didn't you invade Iraq and remove Saddam?"

Really, they can't win for losing. There's no win-win when you're talking about the what ifs and that's the world we live in post 9/11. The naysayers need to be handcuffed to theater seats while they're forced to rewatch every single unedited minute of video from 9/11 - beginning at 8:45am and continuing until 8:45am the following day. And by unedited, I mean they need to see the planes flying into the towers, the shots of the plane going into the Pentagon, the bodies falling from the towers, the collapse of the first tower, the collapse of the second tower, the dust-covered people running in the streets, all of it...

Excellent point Jen,<... (Below threshold)

Excellent point Jen,

Even the media when reporting about the incidents of 9/11 with the release of the Atta tapes from the cockpit won't show the planes hitting the towers!! They show clips right up until the planes hit, but then don't show the actual impact. We need to be shown these tapes and be reminded of the outrage and fear these incidents caused.

You are absolutely right. ... (Below threshold)

You are absolutely right. And let's make sure that includes footage of what George Bush was doing while those planes slammed into those buildings. Why, he was reading a children's book. I know that is what I want my nation's leadership, after being repeatedly warned of such a possible terrorist attack, to be doing while the attack occurs.

But let's play more what if. What if Saddam Hussein had no Weapons of Mass Destruction and had nothing to do with the 9/11 attacks? And what if he actually had nothing to do with terrorism generally? What if...son of a gun, that isn't a what if. That's the REALITY?

Really, you guys need to use your common sense more and play less what if games.

Hey I got a what if for ya!... (Below threshold)

Hey I got a what if for ya! What if The Glorious Leader in North Korea wakes up with a stiffie tomorrow morning and decides to Nuke South Korea and Japan?

Oh, gosh. In a pre-9/11 world President Bush had the nerve to be going about his daily business the same G--d----- way everybody else in the G--d----- world was, so Mr. Peepers here wants him crucified.

Hey Wally, don't I hear sweet Polly Purebred calling you?
