GoDaddy is a great domain and very cheap domain registrar. It's all wine and roses until you try to transfer a domain to another registrar. Then you find that it's more like the Hotel California - You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.
Ah, so they're just like Network "you're within three months of expiration so we won't allow you to transfer until you have paid another year, if then" Solutions, only cheaper and more efficient and stuff.

hmmmm I'm not sure I understand the problem.. Many registars have that 90 days rule but if you pay for another year at the new place, you get both years. Other than paying in advance, I don't see the problem.
Am I missing something?

Actually the problem is tranfering a domain to another registrar. It's damn near impossible even with the ICAAN rule mandating transparency. They're a great registrarm, just a hard one to leave...

Why are you attempting to leave? We are in the processing of moving all our domains to GoDaddy. So, I'm wondering why you are going in the opposite direction.

I wonder if they're related to the domain host I first used for McGeheeZone.com. After I'd been with them a couple of years I discovered I couldn't manage my domain anymore because I needed a new password, but when I requested the password they were e-mailing it to a defunct address, and to update the address I needed the password. So I looked around, found a better deal, and tried to have VeriSign (my registrar at the time) transfer the domain to the new host.
Nothing happened. Tried again.
Nothing happened. Tried again.
Nothing happened. Fired VeriSign and hooked up with my current registrar, which arranged the transfer. Then my former host told me I owed them money because they had been sending their invoices to that defunct e-mail address. I've never enjoyed so much, before or since, telling someone to pound sand.
Oh, and after everything was done, VeriSign e-mailed to tell me they couldn't transfer my domain to my new host because they were no longer my registrar.
My current registrar is not GoDaddy. I don't think I'm in any danger of switching to GoDaddy.
