CBS Guard Documents Traced to Tex. Kinko'sRecords Reportedly Faxed From Abilene
Documents allegedly written by a deceased officer that raised questions about President Bush's service with the Texas Air National Guard bore markings showing they had been faxed to CBS News from a Kinko's copy shop in Abilene, Tex., according to another former Guard officer who was shown the records by the network.
The markings provide one piece of evidence suggesting a source for the documents, whose authenticity has been hotly disputed since CBS aired them in a "60 Minutes" broadcast Sept. 8. The network has declined to name the person who provided them, saying the source was confidential, or to explain how the documents came to light after more than three decades.
There is only one Kinko's in Abilene, and it is 21 miles from the Baird, Tex., home of retired Texas National Guard officer Bill Burkett, who has been named by several news outlets as a possible source for the documents.
curiouser and curiouser
Just a thought-- Burkett has a decades old grudge against Bush and a history of mental illness. (That he blames on Bush) The guy has had multiple nervous breakdowns. If this is the source Rather called unimpeachable, THAT might be worse than running bogus documents. You could (try to) make the case Rather was fooled by the documents. Clearly he knows who Burkett is and his history of metal problems. Hardly the kind of guy a seasoned professional would call unimpeachable. . . Unless he were lying of course.
Just a thought II-- I wonder if there is surveillance tape. 8 weeks ago probably not. But we might get an eyewitness. Anyone live near that Kinko's?
If he paid with a charge card that is subpoenable should it get that far.

It'd be nice if we could discuss the issues rather than what happened over three decades ago. Yes, I know about press bias, etc. etc. it's still three years ago.
Nevertheless, I'll try to complicate this matter even further:
1. Just because it has markings like the Abilene Kinko's doesn't mean it was sent from there. (Can bloggers issue subpoenas? Get those receipts!)
2. Even if it's from the Abilene Kinko's, there's still the possibility it was sent by someone other than the supposed key suspect. Red herrings and all.

Now Wash. Post is pointing to Burkett with the Kinko's fax evidence.
I say: BURKETT - scapegoat - then CBS off the hook? Even if Burkett forged the docs, it's gone way beyond that now. The forger in the scene is the lowest rung and already I see Wash. Post preparing the way for his commitment.
Just like Watergate, quick, let's institutionalize him before he really spills the beans. Remember lawyer Phillip Mackin Bailley who knew too much about the Columbia Plaza call girl ring's connection to the DNC and Watergate bugging? Spencer Oliver's phone line was being used for the appointments, and McCord/Alfred Baldwin listening to THOSE calls. Dean's wife was friends with the madam. Judge Richey institutionalized Bailley BEFORE trial. See Jim Hougan's book "Secret Agenda."
I still say EU-RICO! It's a much larger conspiracy than just a "lone nut" from Texas.
Bottom line: A "mastermind" writes the thesis, with the help of various anti-Bush researchers and journalists, then a flunky (Heldt, Burkett, or some other low IQ person) does the grunt work to actually create the forgeries, then CBS completes the circle by publishing it.
THAT'S RICO ! (federal and civil - conspiracy to commit fraud).
Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act, Title 18, United States Code, Sections 1961-1968, passed by Congress in 1970, originally designed to get the mafia.
See http://www.ricoact.com/:
"Today, RICO is almost never applied to the Mafia. Instead, it is applied to individuals, businesses, political protest groups, and terrorist organizations."

I'll bet Kinko's has a paper record or phone log of some kind. In any case, the hounds are on the scent! Tally Ho!!

Have you ever noticed how many opponents of the Republicans are labeled as being mentally ill, "close to the edge", "out of control", "loosing it", etc.?
