Welcome To The Big Show, Meat

This is just plain strange...

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) - A Cleveland Indians pitcher was shot in the right calf when a bullet pierced the team's bus and grazed another player late Wednesday night.

Team trainers were able to remove the bullet from the calf of Kyle Denney, who was expected to spend the night in the hospital but was not seriously hurt, club spokesman Bart Swain said.

[...] Denney, who started Wednesday night's 5-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium, was expected to rejoin the Indians on Thursday in Minnesota, where Cleveland begins its final series of the season Friday.

After getting called up from Triple-A Buffalo on Sept. 14, the 27-year-old Denney is 1-2 with a 9.56 ERA in four starts with Cleveland.

By the looks of his ERA no one is having a hard time hitting this guy.

Update: As noted in the comments, the linked article has been updated. The go-go boots he was wearing helped prevent more serious injury.

This is the trip, leg of trips where veteran players as part of initiation rights for major league players have younger players dress up in costumes before they get on the plane. Kyle Denney was actually wearing a costume -- a cheerleaders' outfit," Tribe Specialist Matt Underwood.

That ERA swips is just mean, man.

Although I do get the image in my head of "Major League" - Kyle Denney must have stolen Jo Boo's rum!

I live in the KC area. The media here is still trying to find a connection between the shooting and the Royals all time team record of 101 losses in one season. I think that it was just random! Nobody has been that passionate about the Royals since Allard Baird traded Carlos Beltran to the Astros!!!

The funny part of the story is that Denney was at the time dressed in drag (no joke) as part of a "hazzing"! First your team makes you dress up like a woman, and then, some Idiot shoots you in the leg!

MSNBC just reported that as part of a hazing ritual, Denney was wearing a cheerleader costume which included go-go boots. The boots apparently helped slow the bullet down and there would have been more damage if he hadn't been wearing them.

Kevin,
That's not funny - can you imagine sitting in a bus driving along and all of a sudden you get this sharp pain in your leg and then you find out that some idiot out there on the road shot at the bus, it went through and hit you in the leg???

ERA or not, no one deserves that!

Only the Indians...

First they bring up the "gay-porn relief pitcher", now they've got guys in dresses getting shot.

Next thing you know, they'll be moving the franchise to Lakewood, OH.

(apologies for the Ohio-centric joke, but SOMEONE's bound to get it!)
