This very unscientific article (Registration required) about a very few undecided Minnesota voters is a particularly fascinating read. The Readers Digest version is that voters know and trust integrity of President Bush, even if they don't support him politically. John Kerry, while gaining during the debates on the issues has serious perception problems. The fact is that even people predisposed to vote for him in many cases either don't like him or don't trust him. The one thing undecideds agree on is that Kerry is at his best when he's talking on the issues, especially domestic issues.
So what are the major stories surrounding the Kerry campaign?

Glad I heard about it now. Sounds like we're going Dutch tonight.

You forgot the raisins in gin and Kerry healing the lame. What is truly amazing is the way Kerry supporters are vitrually frothing at the mouth about the Mary Cheney gaffe. If they'd shut up it would drop, but they're like a dog with a bone.

Well, if Kerry would say, "It was a stupid thing to say, and I'm sorry I said it" and THEN his supporters let it drop, it would go away.
Or at least stop causing damage.

As someone who IS from Minnesota (though absentee, my vote will count in Minnesota's electorate), I can tell you that's totally true.
It's the whole "Minnesota Nice" thing. We can't help it.
Things Working Against Kerry that might cost him our vote (and it doesn't help that Iowa & Wisconsin seem to be going for Bush - we're surrounded by Red! except Canada I guess):
1. The Mary Cheney reference will NOT go over well in MN. If it was said to turn off Bush's religious base, then it cost Kerry many more in Heartland swing votes.
2. The Swift Vets hit MN particularly hard since these guys fought in Vietnam too and we want to give them a chance to speak.
3. The violence and vandalization going on - some has been IN Minnesota too. I guarantee you that the town it happened in - that whole county will go for Bush out of sympathy and the fact that the victim was also a veteran. Vandalizing a Minnesota veteran is a sure turnoff.
4. Bush's genuineness and unrehearsed personality. What we see is what we get - he's genuine, he says what he thinks even if that might mean we DON'T get his vote. That means a lot more than someone who's been groomed and re-introduced to us like a aristocratic princess presented to society after years of charm school.

I have "heard" that secretly Heinz-Kohn Kerry states among her african-american friends that Johnny leaves a bad taste in her mouth...

That is, unless, most of the real voter fraud cases were perpetrated by people on your side. Then you should start making up new stories accusing your opponents of being the real culprits. Straight out of the Dem play book.
