Predicting the Media Spin

The media, both on the news pages and in their endorsements, are overwhelmingly supporting John Kerry. The outcome of the election will make for some interesting spin the next day. I'll jump the gun and make my predictions on their spin.

(All outcomes assume the Republicans hold both House and Senate.)

If Kerry Wins by 5 points:
It is clear the American people are smart. They did not fall for the fear mongering of 9/11 and they selected the more intellectual candidate. His resounding victory gives him such a clear mandate. The Republicans in Congress should turn over the chairmanships of all the committees to Democrats.

If Kerry Wins by 1 point:
It is clear the American people are smart. They did not fall for the fear mongering of 9/11 and they selected the more intellectual candidate. His resounding victory gives him such a clear mandate. The Republicans in Congress should turn over the chairmanships of half the committees to Democrats.

If Bush wins by 1 point
The fear of 9/11 was so strong people decided it was better in time of war to stick with what they had -- even though everyone knows he sucks. The rednecks won. The narrow margin of victory showed Bush has no mandate and should replace all conservative in his cabinet with liberals and the Republicans in Congress should offer a few committee chairmanships to Democrats as a show of good faith.

If Bush wins by 5 point
John Kerry was a really bad candidate.

A network is showing an anti-Kerry film - - the media is liberal. Bush lied about not stating Bin Laden didn't matter, the cable news networks talked Mary Cheney to death - - the media is liberal.

How would they spin the AOL October Straw Poll?

"An unscientific online poll!"

Which, y'know, isn't actually spin.

A network is showing an anti-Kerry film - - the media is liberal.

One "network" -- actually a company that owns a handful of TV stations -- is showing a program based on the film in question.

As for the Mary Cheney gaffe, Big Media has an aversion to substance which, considering they're supporting the guy (Kerry) who has no substance, can't be surprising.

Well, that would be my spin. But the Big Media spin would never give Bush credit for earning a mandate. It would all have to be that somehow Kerry screwed up, that this election was his to lose and he did, that the Karl Rove dirty tricks machine performed frighteningly well.

That the American electorate is once again a big, loud two-year-old throwing a tantrum against those kind, generous progressives who know so much better than all those ignorant voters. (What were the Founding Father-and-Mothers thinking when they gave those yokels a say in our government!?)

That's what the Big Media spin is going to be on Nov. 3.

Tom:

If Bush wins the electoral college but loses the popular vote, he and the people in his ear piece (I wondered why Bush has such hairy ears- what wife would let her mate out looking like that- then I realized that the hair provides cover) will spin that as a mandate to do as they please. They will do all that show boating and trash talking in the end zone, and then drop down to their knees and pray...and then jump back up looking for some more ass to whump.

Steve L.:

I could live with one (and only one) outcome in whcih Kerry wins. If he wins the Electoral College but loses the popular vote, the liberals and thier media mouthpieces would have to live with four years of "Kerry is not a legitimate President because he lost the popular vote."

I would hate to see Kerry win, but that wouold be worth it.

If Kerry wins the press will discover that Iraq was a threat after all, and that there really was a terrorist connection to Saddam Hussein that had to be confronted.
