Pennsylvania Soldiers Sue To Have Their Vote Counted

It shouldn't be particularly surprising that the "count every vote" Democrats don't support counting every military vote - they didn't in 2000 and don't in 2004. They're busy fighting to get the illegal votes of illegal aliens and convicted felons counted, but not the members of our armed services.

HARRISBURG (Philadelphia Inquirer) - Two soldiers from Pennsylvania serving abroad filed a motion in federal court yesterday to force the state to accept overseas absentee ballots received after Tuesday's election.

Without an extension, U.S. Army Specs. Matthew J. Schramm of Schwenksville, Montgomery County, and Steven J. Reitz of Venango County, probably won't have their votes counted, according to the court petition filed by lawyers with the Republican State Committee.

"With the war in Iraq a major issue in this election, it is especially imperative that the members of the military actually waging that war have their votes counted," according to the motion, which asks the court to extend the absentee ballot deadline until Nov. 17

According to the court motion yesterday, Schramm and Reitz still have not received their absentee ballots. Without an extension, they fear that they won't get them in time to return them to their home counties by Election Day.

Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell opposes extending the deadline to count the soldiers votes, though he supported an extension earlier this year for the primary elections.

-S-:

How can THE GOVERNOR of the State of PA actually OPPOSE counting the military votes?

Particularly when he/others have made this huge pile of noise about "disenfranchising voters" and here are the Democrats, AHgain, discounting actually registered and qualified votes and from military personnel, at that.

Someone needs to stop this and do it now. I'm thinking that what the Democrats rely on is that they tweak and they modify and they intimidate and worse, and yet they sure do like projecting all that onto Republicans. Attacking Bush/Cheney campaign offices, losing Absentee Ballots that are mailed...the list goes on and on and it always seems to be Democrats who wage this behavior.

Let those military ballots be counted in Pennsylvania and nationwide. There has to be some arrangement made whereby military votes are counted, included in the ballot process.

Otherwise, if they discount/disallow them (as this Democratic Governor is attempting to do, among others), then let them go on record as being opponents of those in the military...or worse.

I was appalled yesterday by this story. The Dems are displaying their utter contempt for the military and their genuine compassion for murderers, rapists and other felons. It seems the DNC has created a new constituency -- the criminal block (pardon the pun).

Is there any surprise they want to suppress the military vote? Surveys show that upwards of 70% of the men and women in the armed services support Bush's re-election. Whereas they also know that criminals will always favor the Dems since they are enablers and defenders of criminals.
And Kerry is against capital punishment, isn't he?

I wonder how many Republicans are in the Military?
I wonder how many Republicans are in Prison in PA?

Rendell was also the head of the DNC during the recount fraud in 2000, and went out of his way to try and not count military absentee ballots then.

Thank you for finally posting about the despicable situation that is going on in Pennsylvania. It appears that the prisoner's votes @ the Chester County Jail are more important than our PA troops to Govenor Rendell: culling the PA prisons for votes was the Dems top priority. Due to the Nader on/off ballot fiasco, several counties in PA were very, very late in sending the absentee ballots. Obviously, our troops are the primary victims, since Rendell refuses to budge as to an extension: 26,000 sent, only 13,000 received as of yesterday: today 10-29 is the deadline.

On Hannity's radio show yesterday, he spoke to Rendell and Senator Santorum: Rendell was coy and primarily evasive. Hannity and Santorum were outraged.

Thank you again for exposing this abusive insult to the blogosphere. WE, IN PA, NEED YOUR HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Guys, it cuts both ways. In Toledo, of the 930 registrations the GOP challenged, already the Board of Elections (run by the Democrats) has reinstated about 100 which were military/overseas. The other one was photoshopped in.

If it makes a difference, I don't see why the the the deadline for the armed forces can't be extended all the way up to a couple of days before the electoral votes are actually cast, if it makes a difference.

It doesn't "cut both ways".... (Below threshold)
Jim:

It doesn't "cut both ways". The issue is qualified voters versus non-qualified voters. The suit is filed by qualified voters who are being disenfranchised --they're qualified to vote but prevented from voting.

The plain-Dealer story is about non-qualified voters. ... the Ohio Republican Party filed papers questioning the validity of the registrations because the voters' addresses appeared to be wrong and the mail from the elections board was being returned. ...About 100 of the 900 voters challenged in Lucas County appear to be valid so far, said Paula Hicks-Hudson, the county's election director. Some of those challenged included active military personnel who are stationed overseas. "We fully expected there would be some legitimate voters mixed in," Mauk said. "We filed these so we can clear these up prior to Election Day."

The Republicans are challenging registrations based on non-reachable and non-existent addresses, an issue that disqualifies voting. Service members who can't provide a valid (resident) address won't be able to vote; just like anyone else. That's called "honesty.

But that wasn't the issue Kevin posted about. [Those who see the world in Republican=military versus Dhimmocrat black-n-white will have problems understanding that] The issue is properly registered voters who are deliberately being denied their ballot. That's called "dishonesty".

It's also illegal under 42 USC Chapter 20. In addition to the suit, they should contact the Civil Rights Division of the US Dept of Justice.

- Heres something to maybe cheer up our collective weekend and warm the cockles of our socks on into the election... I don't want to tip the moon-foil beanie crowd, except to the degree it might contribute to their ulcer gardens, so you'll have to read between the lines a bit in "Republese"...

- "Look for something this weekend from a retired high ranking member of the Navy Dep. admin which could force a response from the abdurant feckless prevaricating fuckhead Lurchkerry regarding that "mysterious disapearing DD214", the sudden reapearence of ribbons and medals, and the "invisible 100 pages"...

Although there are currently thousands of soldiers that have not received their PA absentee ballots, the two suits on records were filed by the parents: the parents have power-of-attorney......it doesn't take a MENSA member to discern WHY!

To reiterate, a total of 13,000 absentee ballots have not been received as of yesterday. Govenor Rendell prefers the votes of pedophile, rapist, etc., as along as he is assured that the vote will a Democratic one.

I don't care what party the military is affiliated. ALL OF OUR TROOPS SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO VOTE! They have earned it!!!!!!!......more than any of us. To do otherwise is a CRIME!!!!!!

So, don't differentiate and go off blathering insipidily between the parties, it just doesn't wash.

Just for the record, the entire process was delayed by Dhimmocratic activists suing to have Nader removed (successfully) from the ballots; necessitating all ballots being re-printed. That's the source of delay --Donkey Party partisans.

[Nader should have been struck. But he never should have made it on to begin with. The Parties (both!) are supposed to examine or challenge after the filing deadline. That's a regular procedure which doesn't delay the ballots. It didn't happen, despite the blatant 2/3 of Naders signatures being later found invalid, and appears to be a case of premeditated misuse of the court to effect a delay.]

I have yet to see any substantiated claim of GOP voter fraud other than a few ( 8 to 10 ) Democrat registrations that someone claimed were ripped up. Contrast this to TENS OF THOUSANDS of fraudulent Democrat voter registrations that have been uncovered just in the last month.

If there were ANY cases that even REMOTELY looked like they might be GOP voter fraud, CNN-ABC-NBC-Reuters-etc. would be screaming about it 24/7. To say otherwise is either madness or gross stupidity. I'm not even a Republican, and this pisses me off to no end; Democrats don't deny voter fraud, they simply level un-founded counter accusations.

I am in PA, I was in the military, and I am not amused about all this. Not one bit.

Subject: The Military ... (Below threshold)
Mike DeGuzman:

Subject: The Military

The average age of the military man is 19 years. He is a short haired, tight-muscled kid who, under normal circumstances is considered by society as half man, half boy. Not yet dry behind the ears, not old enough to buy a beer, but old enough to die for his country.

He never really cared much for work and he would rather wax his own car than wash his father's; but he has never collected unemployment either.

He's a recent High School graduate; he was probably an average student, pursued some form of sport activities, drives a ten year old car, and has
a steady girlfriend that either broke up with him when he left, or swears to be waiting when he returns from half a world away. He listens to rock and roll or hip-hop or rap or jazz or swing and 155 mm howitzer.

He is 10 or 15 pounds lighter now than when he was at home because he is working or fighting from before dawn to well after dusk.

He has trouble spelling, thus letter writing is a pain for him, but he can field strip a rifle in 30 seconds and reassemble it in less time in the dark.

He can recite to you the nomenclature of a machine gun or grenade launcher and use either one effectively if he must. He digs foxholes and latrines and can apply first aid like a professional. He can march until he is told to stop or stop until he is told to march.

He obeys orders instantly and without hesitation, but he is not without spirit or individual dignity. He is self-sufficient. He has two sets of BDUs: he washes one and wears the other. He keeps his canteens full and his feet dry. He sometimes forgets to brush his teeth, but never to clean his rifle. He can cook his own meals, mend his own clothes, and fix his own hurts. If you're thirsty, he'll share his water with you; if you are hungry, his food. He'll even split his ammunition with you in the midst of battle when you run low.

He has learned to use his hands like weapons and weapons like they were his hands. He can save your life - or take it, because that is his job. He will often do twice the work of a civilian, draw half the pay and still find ironic humor in it all. He has seen more
suffering and death then he should have in his short lifetime.

He has stood atop mountains of dead bodies, and helped to create them. He has wept in public and in private, for friends who have fallen in combat and is unashamed. He feels every note of the National Anthem vibrate through his body while at rigid attention, while tempering the burning desire to 'square-away' those around him who haven't bothered to stand, remove their hat, or even stop talking. In an odd twist, day in and day out, far from home, he defends their right to be disrespectful.

Just as did his Father, Grandfather, and Great-grandfather, he is paying the price for our freedom. Beardless or not, he is not a boy. He is the
American Fighting Man that has kept this country free for over 200 years.

He has asked nothing in return, except our friendship and understanding. Remember him, always, for he has earned our respect and admiration with his blood. And now we even have woman over there in danger, doing their part in this tradition of going to War when our nation calls us to do so. As you go to bed tonight, remember this shot.. A short lull, a little shade and a picture of loved ones in their helmets.......

HAVE A GREAT DAY! _______________________________________________________
