Free Money Christmas Bunny!!!

Is there anything cheesier than a Morning Zoo's Free Money Bunny cash giveaway? Probably not, but I'm willing to give it a try.

Introducing the Wizbang Free Money Christmas Bunny contest, where you can win anywhere from $100 to $250 dollars if you promise to be kind to at least one stranger before Christmas day.

Surely you can be nice to one stranger, right?

The detailed rules are below, but basically if you leave a comment and promise to be nice to at least one stranger before Christmas you're entered.

Update: The random number generator has spit out #31 as the winner. I'll save you the counting - it's Beth of Yeah, Right, Whatever. Unfortunatly for Beth the last digit of the comibined total score in the Hawaii Bowl is 9 (Hawaii over Alabama-Birmingham 59-40) so she was ever so close to winning the $250. Still Beth walks away with the $100 prize.

Thank to everyone for participating, and congratulations Beth!

Keep an eye out for a New Years contest...

The Fine Print...

Rules - To enter you must leave a comment on this post. In the content of your comment you must make a promise to be kind to at least one stranger before Christmas. Since I have no way of verifying that you will actually be kind to a stranger, I'll assume that if you're willing to publicly promise to be nice to a stranger there's a pretty good chance you'll follow through. Trackbacks, thought always appreciated, are not entries - only comments. One entry per person.

Winner - One person will be drawn at random from the comment section and be declared the winner. While you're free to explain to the world why you are most deserving of the prize, the random number generator script I'll be using won't be influenced by your prose. Comments (hence entries) close Christmas Eve at 7PM ET. Comments will be assigned a number from 1 to the number of entries received. The number of comments will be entered into the random number generator, and a number between 1 and the number of comments received will be generated randomly. The number that pops out of that spreadsheet will be matched to the numbered comments, and that's how the winner will be chosen.

Prizes - The winner will receive an Amazon gift certificate or PayPal cash transfer of either $100 or $250. The amount of the cash or gift certificate will be determined by the final score in the Hawaii Bowl on Christmas Eve (7PM ET). If the last digit of the combined final score is 6 or 8 the winner will receive $250; if the last digit of the combined final score is any other number the winner will receive $100.

Eligibility - No purchase necessary to enter. You must be 18 or older to enter, and you must provide a valid e-mail address to ensure that you can be contacted in the event you win. Entries that do not contain a valid e-mail address or do not, in the opinion of the judge, indicate a promise to be kind to at least one stranger before Christmas will be disqualified. The decisions of the judge is final. Current authors or sponsors of Wizbang (and their families) are not eligible. Void where prohibited.

Memphis had a ice storm last night. We are probably in until Christmas eve services. I went out and got my paper this morning carefully walking on the ice.

As I got my paper I noticed my neighbor's paper. They are elderly. She is a retired teacher and he is a retired minister. His health is a little frail.

I went and put their paper next to their door so they would not have to brave the ice to get it.

I just heard from her. She had put her boots on, hat, regular coat and rain coat to go get the paper. She was surprised to see the paper at the door and asked if I had done it. I confessed and made her day.

Kindness is its own reward, however, so just pass it on.

King Air:

If I win, please use the prize to buy your family an outing of random fun (a trip to the creamery). In a completely random way, your kindness would come back to you.

You know its funny when you think about "acts of kindness". It is usually strangers that are the benificiary of mine. I was thinking about why and concluded the following:

a) when between family and friends, acts of kindness may create unwarranted feelings, for either the giver or reciever (but not usually both), about the other persons perception of status/position/success in life;
b) ongoing one-sided acts of kindness are not acceptable, therefore, to avoid this, a kind act to family or friends creates a sort of "kind act chit" which accumulate (from which nothing good can come); and,
c) with family and friends, you come to realize that your kind act really did not help them in any meaningful way (whatever the problem/need was, it will remain and you will see it). will continue know.

A kind act to a stranger is void of these issues: you do a nice deed, you know you'll never get or give anything in return (so no expectations are created)and you can look back on each act fondly for many years to come - fantasizing that you made a difference in someones day/week/month/year/life.

(Reading this, I do want to make it clear I am happily married and emotionally connected to both family and friends.)

Hi Kevin,
For many years, I sent my disability awareness poem to all kinds of newspapers and certain sites on the net right before thanksgiving with an additional paragraph about doing something good for a neighbor or a stranger, even going to a nursing home and finding out who didn't have family and bring them home for dinner or share with them your Christmas. It always worked, too. I was very proud of that and all the newspapers in the Boston area and suburbs, NH papers printed it.
Hopefully many who read it, did indeed do something for a stranger who was alone.
