Lefty Loon Throws Shoe at Richard Perle

The Richard Perle v DNC Chairman Howard Dean debate promised to put the lefties on parade for all they were worth... They never disappoint.

Protester Throws Shoe at Richard Perle

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Howard Dean, the newly minted leader of the Democratic Party, and former Pentagon adviser Richard Perle made clear their opposing views on the war in Iraq during a debate marred by a protester who tossed a shoe at Perle.

Perle had just started his comments Thursday when a protester threw a shoe at him before being dragged away, screaming, "Liar! Liar!"

I bet they weren't leather shoes.

For those of you still clinging to hope the Democratic party can ever again represent the mainstream, do you give up yet?

Related: TNR say, liberalism is now bookless and dying, yup that about sums it up.

UPDATE The video of the debate can be see here I have not previewed it to see if the Birkenstock Bandit is on it.

I was at this particular event. The news media doesnt even beging to portray the sense of what actually happened.

Mr. Perle says, "We went into Iraq using the best information we had available at the time"

A scream, "LIAR! LIAR" a man runs right by me towards the stage. The man is screaming "LIAR, YOU F**ING LIAR!" He takes his shoe and throws it at Mr Perle and misses. He reaches for another shoe, but gets tackled by a security guard. But you need to understand that his mouth has not stopped, "You F**ING WH*RE WH*RE WH*RE"

There is a struggle as more secruity guards come to assist. You see the bum's head pop up and hear more obscenity.

About 6 or 8 Security Guards drag him off, and his screaming does not stop. You can still hear him screaming out in the hall.

If I was Mr. Perle, I would have been very shaken. It seemed like a very traumatic event.

Similarly I think its deplorable when people attack liberals by calling them all stupid, treasonous, anti-american, and all of that. It's the same thing as what Dean did, and it happens on here alot.

Thats right kids, I'm a goddamn liberal. I have some views that some of you dont like, and thats fine, because I disagree with some of yours. OK? I dont go around saying that all conservatives are stupid, or that I hate them. I dont think that way at all actually.

Really, there are more then enough loons on both sides. It's fun to sit back and watch both examples in their rabid dog stance on any issue. It makes for good copy/viewing. But does it really represent the view of the majority? I would say not, but that is my opinion.

This all turns into a big he said, she said, or we said, they said. What is the value?

If you want examples of loons on the right, just go to your local doctor's office where abortions are performed. The majority of those protesting will be extreme rightists and well within their right to do so. But you may find a group there as well, particularly if there are cameras present, doing things like screaming at a woman as she enters the doctors office, calling her a murderer. Even though the woman may simply be entering the clinic for a check up. This is just one example, there are others.

The point is, no one can claim the moral high ground when it comes to loons.

I am more right of center, so I registered with the Republican party (the party I registered with because that is the only way you can vote in a primary here in Kalifornia). Then I was called to contribute money, I told the nice young lady that when my chosen party stopped listening to the extreme religious right, I would gladly contribute.

You see, I was brought up to believe that a persons religion, or lack there of, was a personal matter and had no place in politics. That a belief in God, Allah, Budda, or whom ever you worship as your particular "higher being", could not be forced on you by the government. But in that same vein, we as a people should not force the government to favor any particular religion or religious philosophy. That is one of my problems with being a Republican.

This is just an example of where"our" party is falling down and how we don't have the moral high ground in any argument about loons.

You also bring to light another problem that many of "our party" claim the left suffers from, but not the Republicans. An unwillingness to listen, acknowledge and consider differing points of view from within the same party, not very inclusive is it?

So, to answer your question:

Although r.a. I can't help but wonder, if you don't care for Dean, who did you support for DNC chairman?

First of all, I'm not a registered Democrat, I'm registered Independent. I have to say that I dont have a strong love for any particular party. I'm not all that concerned with saying that I am part of any group. I find positive aspects and ideas in both Dems and Repubs, negatives as well.

In all fairness I would guess that Perle was probably caught off guard...and the actions of the shoe thrower didnt really warrant any sympathetic response. Perle had a free pass actually, thanks to the outburst.

In my book, as far as dissent goes, what that shoe thrower did was as far from effective as one can get. Thats not the way for the "left" to be doing business at all. Actions like that detract from any argument that liberals are trying to make.

On to Syria, Iran, and every damn country that offers an alternative view to the neoconservative madness. That is truly obscene.

I'm not a neoconservative fan at all. But, I certainly wouldnt consider the leadership of Iran and Syria to be a viable "alternative view." Neither Syria or Iran is a beacon of freedom. The neocons adhere to a certain ideology which I have issues with. However, I am not about to express support for two oppressive governments like Iran and Syria as an alternative.

The enemy of your enemy should NOT automatically be your friend.

Thats the trap that I see people fall into...they disagree with what Cheney, or Rumsfeld, or Wolfowitz says, which is fine, thats dissent...but then they go on to express support for some oppressive regime, that's is a bad move, and pisses off lots of Americans.

No, what is truly obscene and mad, is that you think Syria and Iran are an alternative to anything.

Julie...here I agree with you...supporting the governments of those two countries is the last thing that any of us should be doing, no matter how much you might diagree with US policy.

And as far as DavidB goes, why not just read what he writes and address the guy's ideas instead of attacking him? I understand that he may say things that you dont believe, but when you respond by attacking him, it doesnt reflect very well on you.

Of course, I'm sure that you will do your usual name calling bit toward me, but that wont be any surprise....

No, you've proved my the... (Below threshold)
DavidB:

No, you've proved my theory. You really are a pompous twit.

ROTFLMAO . . .That wasn't your original theory, can't remember what it was? Here I will help with a little reminder...

Right. Your point is that you are a one issue voter.

One which I addressed, and slapped down, once again, with a simple explanation that was lost on you.

But you did prove the other theory that I briefly put forth, remember this...

You also bring to light another problem that many of "our party" claim the left suffers from, but not the Republicans. An unwillingness to listen, acknowledge and consider differing points of view from within the same party, not very inclusive is it?

I can hardly wait for your throughly enlightened response!

I'm beginning to see a pate... (Below threshold)
Socraties:

I'm beginning to see a patern developing. Black repulican Alphonso Jackson (HUD secretary) got booed off stage making a speech in a black church in new orleans. Then Michel Malkins speech at berkley with all the collage kids outside the room screaming their lungs out trying to stiffel her lecture. The next month they assult Ann Coulter with pie while she lectured. Now Richard Perel gets a shoe thrown at him in a debate.
How long before one of these nut jobs throws acid on sombody they disagree with?
They remind me of how the taliban and islamic fundimetalists work to keep there peoples in line. If the liberals dont stop these nuts there whole party is doomed. Im a Zell Miller democrat myself.
